I am a part-time bike mechanic working at a non-profitable bike stop. I can tell you that most of those shredded bike were cheaply made and in poor condition. They were worth under $50 on craigslist and garage sales, in perfect condition. As the hourly wage is around $10, we usually send them straight to recycle instead of using 2+ hours to fix up. Bikes are only repaired and gifted to homeless people, kids and to Kenya if they are good quality to begin with.
I appreciate the demonstration of the technology. And we could all imagine doing this to a bike that really deserved it. However, it's pretty clear, as mentioned at the start of the video, that hand tools are young to get you separating different materials better. Lots of bike parts can be re-used rather than recycled. Bike parts are small and quite efficient so there isn't a lot of waste in them to begin with.
Lol.. I'm from the Netherlands, and most people here drive bicycle's in a lot worse condition than those getting schredded here. (also because it's less likely to get stolen)
thats because they got anti jamming devices. it wasnt used in this video though but when a shredder jams it will counter rotate and after some time it will turn the other way again. you can see how it works in the Dodge Daytona video were a daytona gets shred. =D
Why don't they ever move this large shred material into a smaller shredder. Wouldn't it be cool to have a paste made of bikes, or car parts, or pop cans?
This vid makes me sad.... I can hear the bicycles screams of agony as they are ripped apart. I hope these bicycles frames were cracked or the bicycle was seriously compromised because they would have been better off being parted and reused IMHO.
There should be an action movie where the bad guy gets killed by this thing. I think there was something like that in a James Bond film, but it happened real fast.
The second batch of bikes was in fact in great condition. Lots of bikes can be easily repaired and reused... and they are alot better than those Cheap Walmart shitbikes and others "supercycle, Schwinn or CCM".
jump to 1:06 and pause the video then search sad violin (on youtube) pause this video and play the song and it actually becomes a sad video about bikes being shred.
there are plus side to working in a place like that -destroying stuff for a living- and there are down sides- being late for work and losing your transport unless...you come on a bus!!!

I love the sound that the pen makes on the paper at the beginning.

It's ridiculously cool just how strong that shredder is!
These videos are addicting
I would just stand near that and laugh maniacally if I ever got to be near one of these.
Please explain why you would shred awesome lookin bikes for new bikes?
at 1:37 if you listen close you can her the seat squeak XD
You guys should set a camera up under the shredder so you can see the things coming through. Would be awesome.
I'm guessing something along the lines of what happened in the movie "Fargo?"
mom: your grounded
me:fine im going to my friends house
me: mom!!?? where's my bike??
mom: *evil laugh* hahaha
i have always been wondering why they shreds everything directly on the floor, rater than collect the debris in a container or something like that.
i don't wanna fall in this machine !
Lol.. I'm from the Netherlands, and most people here drive bicycle's in a lot worse condition than those getting schredded here. (also because it's less likely to get stolen)
I love the drawnig at the beginning!
bicycles not been so close like this before
Why don't you guys put something underneath the shredder to catch the falling debris?
not the vintage 10 speeds!!! :(
Have they *ever* overloaded those shredders? It's like Chuck Norris... you can't stop 'em.
can u shred a motorcycle and a tracktor trailer ?
Start watching the Video HERE: 1:10
holy crap, that machioen is though, suprized it hasn't jammed yet in the videos.
I'm scared i'd get addicted to that

never let ssi borrow anything of urs or else u'l never see it in one piece again
You make the ghost of humpty dumpty cry
I'd like to order around yelling:SHREEEED IT!
Why don't they ever move this large shred material into a smaller shredder. Wouldn't it be cool to have a paste made of bikes, or car parts, or pop cans?
"Oh, no! Where is the Bicycle Repairman?!" (c)Monty Python
but, will it blend?
i fucking love shredding
who needs chuck norris for protection when you got this
Btw the bicycles were brand new, they weren't able to find used bicycles
Why to shred perfectly usable things?
the monster is f-ing awesome!!!!! i wanna see it shred everything!!!
This vid makes me sad.... I can hear the bicycles screams of agony as they are ripped apart. I hope these bicycles frames were cracked or the bicycle was seriously compromised because they would have been better off being parted and reused IMHO.
No Colnagos were harmed during the making of this film.
lmao i love the thing about workin here
@PSNDonutDude It would be more like powder. Paste has some kind of liquid as a binder.
I want one!! Oh the fun I could have with that bad boy!!!
i feel bad for the paperboy when he finds out SSI destroyed his bike
There should be an action movie where the bad guy gets killed by this thing. I think there was something like that in a James Bond film, but it happened real fast.
schredder approves of this
you should start shredding Abraham Tanks.
I didnt see any rubber / aluminium separation there, bud.
But... Will it Blend?
think about how much you save on transport, you could get thousands of bikes in one truck! Thats a massive saving
i want one of these shredders to shred an old ssi shredder
I feel a great disturbance in the force... as if a thousand 10-speeds cried out and were suddenly silenced.
that bike had no hope of survival
isnt it way better to just disassemble a bike for recycling?
i was wondering if the shredder could shred another shredder
A whole crank and pedal made it through that? I would not use this thing to shred my mail.
do you guys just shred things for fun?
shread a big gold bar next lol if you can afford it.
hahaha, you made me laugh so hard :D
that pedal looks fine! eBay it with a link to the video!!
I want to se a shredder shred a shredder..... Can it be done ??????
shredda stole my bike!
aww i wanted to ride that!
oo esas bicicletas estaban nuevas...
i like the sound of teh pen xD
Shred a bar bell set
the best ride in your life lol
Can this shred Robo Cop?
bicycle....hmm perhaps try some master locks? "if u havent already"
i like this type of distroiment ;-)
The second batch of bikes was in fact in great condition. Lots of bikes can be easily repaired and reused... and they are alot better than those Cheap Walmart shitbikes and others "supercycle, Schwinn or CCM".
now thats called MAN POWER
jump to 1:06 and pause the video then search sad violin (on youtube) pause this video and play the song and it actually becomes a sad video about bikes being shred.
Well, there goes my Schwinn.
debris is or debris are?.....
It seems a waste breaking stuff into little pieces and wasting more time putting it back together than just to repair the bikes
I guess that is what happens to the bikes that get left in the park
NIGGA SHRED MY BIKE!
Hold on, hold on, I can use that saddle there!!!.......uhh, nevermind........
crowbar will blend here
should test it with a live cow or a horse
there are plus side to working in a place like that -destroying stuff for a living- and there are down sides- being late for work and losing your transport unless...you come on a bus!!!
this is the strangest video ive ever stumbled upon
Dude Wheres My Bike
this is chuck norris's shaver
And now it takes much longer to separate materials instead of dismantling the bicycles...tztztz.....
needs lot of energy to make new one
not to repair....
This seems like a lot of fun.I bet chuck norris invented this.
JUDGE SHREDD!
It's good to see that most of these bikes were either sh*t or useless they should have been stripped of good parts tho
The 2008 Tour De France was not off to a great start.
now shred a motorcycle?
shred a cell phone
NO!!! what have you done to my bike!!!!
Don't breath that. Bicycle smoke.
OM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM
NICE
this needs to be added into happy wheels :P
what they should do is what the mythbusters do, make a dummy and throw that in! :D
sooo, after shredding it what do you do with the waste?
i want my bike back :)
Can you shred an ANVIL???
By that i mean right under the teeth of the thing, not just see all the stuff falling out.
