Another fun fact. That bass Mikey is playing was the influence of Mikey Way's signature bass. He talks about in many interviews that he once had a silver sparkle jazz bass that was demolished on tour because someone forgot to close the trailer doors after a show. It fell out on the middle of the highway but crazy ass Frank ran out in front of cars to retrieve it.
Almost Sane that's what the emo and screamo bands that they grew up seeing did, and even the ones around that time, Jerome's Dream, City of Caterpillar, pg.99, etc. they spasmed and went crazy and beat their chests and screamed and cried til their throats bled. that's what it was all about

There is also that one talk show thing where Gerard was in the audience and asked a question when he was like 15 and chubby. Apparently that one Hart D. To add an additional fact, if this performance never happened at Maxwell's then the band would have never met their former manager Brian Schechter. We're watching history unfold here.
I got my sources of Brian being a former manager through Google (not the most reliable source lol). Anyways, if I can remember correctly from MCR’s documentary, I think Brian was the reason the band actually got into the mainstream attention. So it’s really cool that the “My Chem Explosion” happened because of this very concert. Thinking about it, this concert is super symbolic in many ways!

I hear My Chemical Romance fans all the time saying they wish they could’ve been around in the early days to see them in tiny ass venues... think about it this way: there could be a band this great playing in a basement three blocks from your house this weekend. only reason any of these people got to see MCR before they blew up was because these people were supporting their local scene; you should support yours.

I watch this at least once a month, I love this band live and Bullets is my favourite record by them. Plus the whole thing about this being the only show Gerard and Mikey's grandma attended and how small the crowd was just makes this an extremely special video, I am so happy I found this and am trying to get to checking out The Lawn Darts

Two weeks before this show, Gerard showed up to my office at The Belleville Times (I was the editor) and asked me if I would include this show in that week's paper to help promote it. I told him I'd do one better and interviewed the whole band (sans Frank) at the comic book store next door a few days later. As a thank you the band gave me passes to the show and let us video record it. I can't believe that was 15 years ago.

So I watched this, and then watched the footage of them performing Welcome To The Black parade in Mexico. It almost made me cry, because here, (the Maxwell’s concert) they’re surrounded by close friends and family and a small handful of fans, and then a few years later (in Mexico), they’re performing in front of a huge crowd of fans that are all singing along and screaming and clapping and I’m just so fucking proud of them and always will be.
Two years later they would be shooting I'm not okay the very same day, wow... You can find the proof on their I'm Not Okay (I Promise) [Outtake Version 2] video on their channel.

I was about 12-13 at this time. My sister was 16 around the early 2000’s, we always jammed to emo bands in her car. She let me borrow her MCR 3 revenge jacket for school (you know the one with the guns in a circle). I remember she came home once from an MCR concert with a broken leg cause she was moshing. Thanks sis And thanks MCR for forming the greatest years. I get constant nostalgia when I listen to bullets.

We are so so so lucky someone decided to pick up a 90s home video recorder and record this unknown band in 2002. Do you know how unlikely the existence of this footage is?
I only recorded about 3 shows with that camcorder. It was dumb luck that I got this show on tape.

I watch this at least once a month, I love this band live and Bullets is my favourite record by them. Plus the whole thing about this being the only show Gerard and Mikey's grandma attended and how small the crowd was just makes this an extremely special video, I am so happy I found this and am trying to get to checking out The Lawn Darts

It's insane watching this and realising that this show was only two months post bullets release.. I've never seen any recording of them covering jack the ripper either, i think this might actually be the only live footage of it on youtube because i've only ever come across the shitty audio version of it thats floating around. Two weeks before this show, Gerard showed up to my office at The Belleville Times (I was the editor) and asked me if I would include this show in that week's paper to help promote it. I told him I'd do one better and interviewed the whole band (sans Frank) at the comic book store next door a few days later. As a thank you the band gave me passes to the show and let us video record it. I can't believe that was 15 years ago.

@@etOre35 they were just another local band back in the day, and I worked at hot topic and they came in regularly, and I had a co worker whose band was also signed to eyeball records...that's what I'm saying, they were just local kids in a band when I first went to see them. And then my mind was blown and I was a fan immediately. I am so grateful I got to watch their "origin story" from the front rows 🖤
@@neongnome81 I bought tickets to the original reunion tour for 2020, but I've moved states since then and can't get a refund...trying to sell my original tickets and then use the money to buy tickets locally. I'm a mom now and money is tight so I can't just say screw it and spend another 500 bucks. I wish I could. Honestly, it'll break my heart if I don't make it to the reunion. I've been waiting for this for a long, long time. 🖤

So I watched this, and then watched the footage of them performing Welcome To The Black parade in Mexico. It almost made me cry, because here, (the Maxwell’s concert) they’re surrounded by close friends and family and a small handful of fans, and then a few years later (in Mexico), they’re performing in front of a huge crowd of fans that are all singing along and screaming and clapping and I’m just so fucking proud of them and always will be.
Gerard gives a super quick little smirk at 10:08 when the crowd finishes the line for him. He probably felt like such a rockstar right then.
Two years later they would be shooting I'm not okay the very same day, wow...
