    Yeah, I really agree about the old expansions being more open to VIPs. After an expansion is a year or so old it should be included with VIP.

      I disagree. Old expansions should be available for DDO points thus free when you earn it. I have a fully free account as well as an account that I buy all of the expansions with when they come out. My free account within 2 years owns almost all of the content (pretty much available in DDO Points) a pay account can buy the content for DDO points within a year of the expansions?)

      what perfoprmance issues? :D
      i literally run potato, wich is taking its lastt breaths with R9 270x from 2013-2015...
      i was super surprised how i can run this at 120 fps with high/veryhigh detail settings, and even cities dont crawl my fps down.. like they always did with mmos
      i recently started playing.. i like the visual art style of this game, somehow has aged really well, has somekind of "old golden age" charm to it, hard to explain,...
      not sure if the game itself is any good tho, im playing human barbarian.. 5h in , im still level2... i actually tilted the fck out , how much time i spent in korthos to be completionist with quests... and the Explorer quest bugged, cant finish it ;S
      all the tasks done, and not finishing... also my more concerns is how predatory the shop feels... so much walking in this game, and free to play players probably aint getting even mount any time soon? also why the fck content is behind paywalls like wtf.. possiby the most expensive mmo i have ever seen... on top of that, u still habve monthly sub?
      and they sell expansions for 99$ .. and cheaper ones for a game wich is from 2006... 1000% guarantede your not getting content for 99$ ffs...

    As a casual player, my biggest problem with ddo is that I often feel useless when playing in a party with other players. The power difference between the haves and have nots is too big. Looking at your damage numbers in this video, you deal about 10 times as much damage as my characters do. I don't have the best builds or the best gear, but the difference is just too big to have fun in a party.

    Thanks for collecting your thoughts and submitting a video on this Strim. I think every player can resonate with each of these problems you've brought up, and I'd love for you to build on this and do an interview with some SSG staff later this year to let them discuss how they are going to address these problems in the future. The TR Cache system is a problem especially for people who have lots of raid and BtC gear. It takes me several hours to just throw my stuff in my shared storage and distribute it across my bank toons and just taking stuff out of the TR cache. I often will delay my True TR for days or even over a week just because I don't want to deal with the chore of organizing gear across toons and waiting for the TR cache stuff to move to my inventory.

      Simple question: does spending money to reset reaper or enhancements make the game better? no.

    • @SupaDanteX
      @SupaDanteX 2 года назад +1

      Probably no one will see this but yea
      Iv been playing for 10 years now, and I have literally never hit the plat cap.
      Why?
      Resetting trees.
      I have a small group (3 others usually) I play with, they're all plat capped. They each gave me 1mil, so they could continue gaining money. About 3 or 4 weeks later, they said "We're all plat capped again. You had 3 mil like we each had 3 mil so you're plat capped by now too?"
      My answer? "Nah Im down to 2 mil out of the 3 you guys combined gave me." In the 3 weeks it took for each of them to make 1 mil, with me running along side them I made about -1mil.
      I will admit this is a combination of 1: As I said, resetting trees. "Im going to take this cool thing!" *Tests it in slayer area* ...It doesnt work. *Resets tree* I'll take this other cool thing! *Test* ...doesn't work either. Cool cool cool.
      and 2: Running around with a full inventory. I do about 85% of my game time with 5 inventory spaces or less open to take loot which I can then sell to make positive plat value. So maybe that's on me.

    In gw2 we can have an 80v80v80 3 way fight with settings turned up with little to no lag, but DDO can't handle the physics checks of 10-12 mobs chasing one character, so instead of fixing it they penalize players for pulling that many mobs. 😣😣😣
    What's worse is when you point this out on their forums, there are a handful of DDO-can-do-no-wrong blind defending paladins who will defend the situation telling you to stop playing if you don't like it.

    All about the $. We asked for better potions - got store potions. We asked for lower raid timers for old raids - bypass timers. The game is designed to nickle and dime constantly. They care little about basic functions like lag and customer service. Inventory management is depressing. The new player experience and marketing is atrocious. VIP gets screwed constantly from frequent expansions. They spend half of their development time on whales. They change the meta with large changes they know will unbalance things to get people to TR. Now they are making past life bonuses have a greater value by lowering gear at end game. $$$$. DDO is a classic example of 1 step forward, 2 steps back. I left over a month ago and so did many I knew from Hardcore. I got 15 years of games I have passed over I am going to catch up on for awhile.

      I concur.... DDO turned to GreedDO and I am not sure if that will ever re-balance itself..... costs more than the game to buy 1x bag or some XP pots to level from 20-30 after reincarnating, not sure where the economy of scale comes in.

    Great video dude. Hope they watch this one and listen to some of this. I've been super fortunate with not getting much lag in this game. (Shadowfell/Stormhorns stuff is the worst for me) but obviously one of the biggest problem for everyone. Personally, storage is my biggest issue. It's making it hard for me to TR and play the game. Spell Point potions used to be a pretty solid plat sink, and an important part of the economy and valuable for trades, but I hardly ever see them in the game anymore. I also miss named loot being unbound, really killed a large portion of the auction house and again was something good to spend plat on if you had bad luck finding it in a chest. I think they make too much money on chest rerolls now.

    Good video! A lot of these are good points. Definitely i feel like the first point is the biggest issue for me. Internet/server lag is something that can never be truly fixed in an MMO, but its insane how different it is between DDO and other games. And just basic issues with the game engine - hit detection, the weird jumping and climbing stutters - all of it just makes what would make an incredibly enjoyable game very frustrating at times. I would be very happy if the next update wasn’t even a content update, but just a huge overhaul of the game engine to fix these issues

    Being able to increase base Armor AC or weapon dmg / weapon die using a Smith would be a good plat sink. Adding +1 thru +5 (and beyond!) to armor would be great for tank builds. Adding +1 thru +5 and beyond to Weapons also useful to bring melee back in line with casters. I think you should also be able to craft bags or at least be able to upgrade, I resent paying $40 for a bag when you have several different types.

    Great video with brilliant insights and ideas. Except the gambling (just personal preference), I agree with all your ideas. Thank you for sharing!
    For the “#3 DDO doesn't have good solo challenge,” I’d like to say comparing with the relatively routine dungeons, the Challenges (in House Cannith) are more interesting for repetitive run, especially “when you wake in 3 in the morning and cannot go to sleep.” However, they are quite solo unfriendly (it would be much better to adjust time limit by group size).
    Besides, I think another problem is “chance to spawn” of Rare/Random Encounters. For many Wilderness Adventure Areas, I had completed the Slayer and Explorer, but had to enter/finish/reset again and again (averagely 7 times; for some Wilderness over 20 times but still no show, I have already given up) for the last one or two Rare/Random Encounters. It quickly turned my (and my character’s) role from a serious adventurer/inquisitor in a fantastic world to a bored gambler before a slot machine.
    A potential solution might be changing the algorithm of chance to spawn from completely random to basing on current completed encounters. It means when a character enters a Wilderness for the first time, every Encounter is completely random, but after any one Encounter being completed, the chance for all uncompleted Encounters would be increased, and so on.
    Let’s say there are total 20 Encounters with 10% chance of spawn for each, after 10 Encounters being completed, the chance for the uncompleted 10 would increase to (20 * 10% / 10 =) 20%; if 18 Encounters are completed, the chance for the last two would be (20 * 10% / 2 =) 100%. This will save players who want to complete their Rare/Random Encounters and/or Monster Manual and help them (and me) focus on role playing.

If all content were available for 50 dollars I would take it, or alternatively 90% from the old content as long as you have a sup as well. If you look at games like Guild Wars 2, you can get all three addons there for $49 including tons of free content from time to time.

    I agree with you on plat cap and the need for better storage. Basically, I'm a hoarder. While I started out with multiple characters, I've ended up with 1 playable character and the rest are mules. I am not sure how much time SSG would want to put into providing a comprehensive inventory/storage system such as you described, but they could easily make bags, named armor bags, named weapon bags, etc. I was so thankful they did the cakes/cookies bag and freed up more than 1 page inventory on that mule. I am now facing deciding which named items, that aren't btc or bta, to sell off because I'm out of room again. I'd rather play more than spend time managing my inventories. So, good job with all your the issues (and solutions) you listed and I hope they listen to at least part, if not all, of your vid. >^*^

    The platinum cap is 2^32nd. That's 2 times the typical 32-bit cap of 2^31 - 1 (2,147,483,647). This is what makes it hard to change: it's already as big as the bits will allow in the current 32 bit system. As for a plat sink, I'd really like the ability to spend plat on common collectables so I don't have to go farm them by hand anymore. This will make cannith crafting (an already end-game loot sink in terms of generating crafting essence) more viable to actually make gear worth using to fill slots for multiple builds.
    As for expansions, a thing that Everquest 2 (an equally old game) does is if you buy the most recent expansion you get all the other expansions for free. No sub required. It lets new players get caught up without having to drop $300 on black friday just for the expansions.

Not a super challenging problem. Obviously items pulled from the collection wouldn't count. But I think removing the cost of feeding your item because you can just get another copy is a problem. The solution may lie in fixing sentient xp, but it's still an issue

    my solution for solo reaper. make it so when you’re in a reaper quest alone the healing penalty only applies if you’re in combat (say in combat means you’ve taken damage/saved/been missed in the last 5-10 sec). that way you can heal yourself in between fights quickly and not waste your time.

    Eso has the sticker book style system.
    You get the item, lock it to your character or account, can remake it at a transmute station for transmute crystals( the cost goes down for each item in the set you get) and based on traits you know for crafting you can choose those traits when making the item.
    Best part, if your character is below Cao level, you can make most items at lower levels to add sets to your leveling experience you'd normally have issues obtaining.
    This was feared it'd kill the markets, it actually helped to increase sells on certain items because now people could justify buying the items for the sticker book as an investment for future characters instead of looking at a mother's sorrow inferno staff and going that's alot of gold for something...

    Consider this regarding expansions: At a certain point the model that SSG is using is actually segregating the player base. Its the same problem CoD players faced when map packs came out for that series. Especially for a small (player count) game like DDO it is imperative for the maximum number of player be able to group with one another. Unlock all content for VIP up to the latest expo or two (keep the collector edition goodie bundles as whale bait). This approach would lose SSG very little since we have proof that most ddo players are dolphins or whales, they will buy the big ultimate editions and spend tons in the store. But to attract new players (so you can eventually stop relying on individual players payings tons) you need to make the game a more worthwhile investment. As it stands the game appears to the uninitiated as kind of p2w that nickel and dimes you.

    Another thing is, now that finally that Severlin is gone, and we have Tolero (wich I honestly think is WAY more prepared and possibily she could do a LOT of good to the game) you should be our herald and tell our problems, so they are more aware of it.

    Penalties should increase the higher you go into Reaper mode, so at R1, there would be no penalties. R10.. may as well be naked and using your fists. As far as the economy.. yea, there needs to be a a huge plat sink in the game and, I would add, reduce the actual currency rewards significantly (a few gold for most quests, maybe a plat or 2 for extremely long sagas) as well as reducing the costs for everything across the board. As a new player, I looked into buying gear, supplies, anything and there is literally nothing on either auction house.
    Edit: As far as cosmetic gear, it shouldn't be a physical item you equip. You're idea about the cosmetic tab is good, but instead of giving you an item, it just uses that skin for the slot. Then, you would have three cosmetic tabs - Found equipment, purchased sets, and individually purchased items (for example, you could purchase a specific cloak or wings, or a specific helmet skin. Of course, sets would be more expensive than individual items).

  • @davidr1138

    Platinum... great idea on the cap and ML potion vendors. Not inspired by the idea of gambling away plat for a randomly-generated item... I can't see that being fun, worthwhile and it would be really frustrating. Unbound Cannith Crafting items could be the way to go by having a mechanism to allow players to request items from crafters [players with necessary cc levels] in exchange for plat. This ofc comes back to your original, and extremely valid, point about plat usefulness and cap quantity. You are correct that a complete overhaul would be required [increasing both cap and adding purchaseable items] but these would be simple to design and implement.

    @ar47yrr4p 3 года назад +1

    love the ideas.
    When it comes to farming specific gear and being able to run a quest and loot a chest till ransack multiple times...yes, we have ALL been there. I think WoW has an elegant solution to that. All the named set gear can be bought from a specific special vendor, and it can only be bought with specific currency that you get from running the quests/raids in which you would have gotten that gear from in the first place. Say a specific piece of gear has a 10% chance to drop...averaged out that means that most players will get that specific piece of gear around the 9th to 11th time they loot that chest. So, buying that item would cost you 10 of whatever the currency is you are using and acquiring 10 of that currency would take you as long to acquire as it would to loot that chest 10 times.
    This way, you are guaranteed to get that piece of gear at the very least, at the time that the drop rate would suggest you should get it. I know there are some players out there (like me for instance) that are ALWAYS on the far upper end of drop rates. For me, over the course of the past 20 years playing MMO's and other online games with drop rates for gear and stuff (and really anything)... if something has a 50% chance to drop/succeed/whatever then my average would be 30-40%.
    At one point about a decade ago, after being really tired of always having bad luck with my "rolls" I graphed this out. And while I do sometimes get things very quick and very easy...over the long haul my average was a LOT worse than the drop rate. Imagine a piece of gear that has a 10% drop rate but it takes you 18-25 attempts to get it? That's why when WoW introduced this new system I was ecstatic! No longer would I be subject to the gods of the dice (who always seemed to hate me).
    Another thing I'd like to see improved in the game is the crafting...for me, specifically the Cannith Crafting. I've only been back to this game for about 9 months now after nearly a 9 year break from the game. So I'm not familiar with any of the other crafting really ...well some, so some minor extant... so I don't really know the other crafting system (well I know greensteel, and have half a dozen greensteel items between my 2 main characters...all of which I created over 9 years ago). I would like to see the crafting system improved to make it viable above level 20.
    One way that might help... how about if you have your crafting at or near max level you can add 1 effect to an item without first having to "disjunct" it. So that if you have a nice item that you really like because it has nice stats, but maybe is missing something you might like on it, you could simply add that 1 effect to the item. Maybe you still have to "prepare" the item for this without "disjuncting" it. This would also allow for a little more diversity in gear that people would wear I would think, if they were able to customize their gear to more suit them!

    Let. Us. Reroll. Chests. With. Plat. Seriously, just let us. It's bad enough there's a WEEKLY cap on how many times we can get a chest from a quest, it's bad enough that some gear is locked behind an absurdly low drop rate and you might do the quest 80 times just to not get the item you need, but rerolling being tied behind Astral Shards is just dumb. Just let us pump our plat into it. It's a great plat sink, especially for those who are particularly unlucky.

    Best way to increase the platinum value is to deflate the economy pricing and lower the amount of it earned. For example Instead of 400 base plat to respec your character, how about 400 gold and make that the base cost while decreasing the amount of platinum earned overall. This would take an enormous amount of effort on the developers part. Because each item would have to be retuned individually. But would be a much more simple coding fix. As you are changing a formula for calculating value ( on items) rather than changing or adding new components to the game. The tedious part for a devloper would be each vendor item price would have to be manually adjusted to a new base value.

    I think the largest cause of the performance issue could be due to the engine it was built in.

    • @ASolzhenitsyn
      @ASolzhenitsyn 3 года назад +1

      Yes, this is the issue. Engines that old weren't designed with the direction hardware has gone in the past 15 years. A lot of issues is simply because the engine is not fundamentally able to run well on modern hardware. You can keep patching each individual instance of this, but that leads to it's own problems where the game running smoothly is concerned. They are going to eventually have to break down and do a complete reworking for SSG Game engine 2.0.

    • @LCDqBqA
      @LCDqBqA 3 года назад +4

      You mean the complete lack of development of the game engine (and i know this predates SSG and yes i know the game engine was never perfect to begin with). Take OSRS, that game engine is older than DDO, literally 20+ years old. The server lag used to be terrible around 2014/2015 to the point it was unplayable. The developers understood there was no future for the game in this state, the code was ancient and a pain in the ass to work with but they slogged through and now there is no issues with connection or lag. SSG are purposefully downgrading servers to save $$$ while simultaniously posting record profits.

      Often times performance is sited as some sort of reason to not do this kind of thing, but after getting the information once, you could store and search the info client side, and only check with the server when the user tries to bring the item into their inventory. Better performance and resolves nearly all their inventory issues without too many changes.

I truly wish that many of your proposals were taken seriously. I personally think that DDO is broken and outdated beyond repair, I cannot understand why, otherwise, so many wrong things like inventory, performance, etc. that affect the player experience so much, have not been already addressed by SSG after so many years. The only logical conclusion is that it's not profitable for them to address all these issues, so they're just milking the whales until the game finally dies. Don't have high hopes, but this type of video is certainly a step closer towards a solution, and really appreciate you taking the time to summarize in such a good way many of the game long-standing problems. Regarding soloing: I thought I mostly solo'd so two lives ago, I made a spreadsheet to actually track it and found that 85.65% of the quests that I ran were done solo (mostly on reaper). A lot of what I didn't solo were raids or other quests that required more than one person or things I didn't flag for and redboxed for quick XP (i.e. Bloody Crypt). Most of these quests were ran in reaper mode. It would be awesome if they would implement your suggestion on reducing the self-healing penalty in reaper mode.

    Best thing that can happen to DDO is if somehow someway a company clones the questing style of DDO and brings a MMO to market that is very close to what ddo is. DDO is unique in the sense it has the most enjoyable leveling experience of any MMO. the game feels like a legit single/multiplayer RPG of the 90s the game is devoid of fetch quests like every other MMO. Major issue though is its old, has massive server issues, the payment model is from the dark ages and the game gets almost zero marketing.
    My hope is some day a group of well connected and funded developer see the potential of a modern version of DDO doesnt have to be dungeons and dragons either just Fully voice narrated quests with traps secrets doors etc, fully instanced with choice of multiple difficulty levels that can be run with friends or by yourself just with modern graphics better animations and improved gameplay with servers that can actually run the game. If only ESO had a questing setup like DDO and did not have garbage combat :(. every dungeon in ESO so linear and boring

    It's funny you mention PoE, because imo DDO does a lot better re lag and maybe some of the other stuff. If you aren't deleting the entire screen in maps, enemies stacking up will cause you to lock up the game with many builds. One of my builds in Ultimatum turned out to be completely unplayable because it would lock the screen every time I did an Ultimatum or anything else that spawned more than a pack or two of enemies at a time.
    The gold cap problem could also be solved by reducing both gold income and gold costs at cap. That's basically the "Stat Squish" but for gold. The plat cap isn't a problem at lower levels; make the way that gold costs scale with level 'flatter' and it can be not a problem at higher levels as well.

    • @Strimtom
      @Strimtom  3 года назад

      PoE is funny. I have a monster PC so I have yet to find a build that slows me down. PoE is a lot more demanding than DDO in terms of hardware, but my point was that really good hardware will in most cases let you play PoE extremely smoothly. DDO still stutters and lags out, regardless of hardware.

Ideally they really need a team of real modders, not the ppl that just collect the money and keep the world but upgrade the engine and bring things upto date.
