India had produced the best steel in the world (Wootz) as recognized by English experts in the 1790s - and Sheffield copied its methods. French and British colonial observers noted that 18th Century India made cannon and muskets as good as any in Europe but arms production was eliminated. The oldest seaworthy ship in the Royal Navy HMS Trincomalee was built by an Indian Co. in 1817 but British competitors stopped shipbuilding in India. When 19th Century Indian engineers showed that they could design and build locomotives, this was of course suppressed. It was not until the 1914-18 Great War in Europe that India was allowed to develop some industrial capacity - then only due to Britain's emergency needs.
They also killed tens of millions of the poorest in about 3 dozen famines created by Britain stealing India's foodgrains for British profit and Food Security. In 1901 The Lancet estimated conservatively from the census that 19 million had died of starvation in Western India during the 1890s due to British policies. In 1936 George Orwell wrote in Road to Wigan Pier that 100 million Indians must be forced to the edge of starvation so that the British can live in comfort. As late as 1942-3, Hindu-hating White Supremacist Winston Churchill was responsible for killing millions in Bengal due to Nazi-like Collective Punishment of Bengal and - after British cover-ups were blown by the press in 1943, preventing Food Aid from other countries reaching Bengal, diverting US, Canadian and Australian grain to the UK. As ever, there were surplus food stocks in India as a whole but the Brits ensured they didn't get to Bengal. Even the Nazis allowed Red Cross Food Aid to Greek Famine victims in 1941.

They wreaked havoc on our long established traditional system of governance by imposing on us, their rules and laws that particularly aimed to suppress us at their advantage. Were the colonialists satisfied with this much? No!. They even went further and injected divisive ideologies on our people. They also re-organized our long established geographical boundaries without any consideration, in a manner that best suits their whims and fancies. Our traditional chiefs (kings) were slaughtered without any remorse. British Colonialists expect total submission and any retaliation or confrontation attracts elimination of the person/s.
Let's not forget, that British and European empires amassed great wealth by plundering the lands that were once upon a time, thrived in self sufficiency, but are today classed as Third World countries.
And today, they basks and boast about their power and supremacy with the wealth that has been plundered and looted from the lands considered inferior to them.
Oh, and you said something about ancient technology. The British Colonialists, destroyed much of our inherited ancient knowledge on technology. But thankfully, some technologies were able to survive the ravages by the colonialists. Concrete proofs are all around, but space in this comment section is a limiting factor.

@@jeanettewee8805 That amount may be pretty low in today's terms. India's contribution to the world GDP was around 27 percent when the British arrived and at the time of Indian independence, it was zero. The British even chopped the hands and fingers of weavers of India to stop weaving.
The British diverted food grains from India which contributed more than 12 famines which killed millions of Indians. Winston Churchill did more genocide than Stalin or Mao.
