I love traveling around Japan. Kyoto is awesomely beautiful old town and lot’s of temples and shrines. Eikando and Nanzenji are truly a great place to visit. I am impressed by what you are trying to see and the scenery you have burned into your mind ! I am very glad that you are interested in and respect the traditional beauty and culture of Japan. In Kyoto, shrines and temples are part of the daily life of the residents. If tourists return to Kyoto as before, the lives of the residents may be threatened and more billboards may be put up on the streets. For example, people breaking into homes to take pictures, groups of people getting lost and making a big fuss, groups surrounding geishas to take pictures, and trash littering the streets every day. It would be nice if all travelers had the same moderation and manners as you 🌱🌱

Too bad you didn't get to Ginkaku-ji (you were nearby), one of my favorites--often bypassed in favor of Kinkaku-ji, the so-called Golden Pavilion. Japanese is easy to pronounce if you just take a few minutes to practice the vowel sounds (a = ah, e = eh, i = ee, o = oh, u = oo), which--unlike with English--don't change. With a few exceptions, vowels and consonants alternate, so pronunciation isn't difficult.
I hope to be visiting soon..not with so nice weather I suspect. There are certain spots and temples/shrines I'd like to see but as yet not pinning down which and where!..As there are so many..tracking and the exact places I want to see or photo is proving beyond me right now(don't know the names)...I guess I'll just hope I will come across them while there...But to miss out on the exact spots I want to see will be a bummer if I was so close yet so far..Oh well..such is...You certainly had the weather on yourside..The greenery is so calming..So glad most Japanese if not all do not litter.Wish my country was like that...rubbish everywhere...And if it's not rubbish it's dog mess....*sigh*.

It's named Philosopher's Trail afterward in the 1970s.🦉🦉 Nishida was one of the most iconic Japanese philosopher and the leader of Kyoto School (京都学派, Kyoto-gakuha) philosophy.
As another comment mentioned, there is the practice of "Takigyo" in Japan, the waterfall spiritual exercise. Do you think you will be interested in trying that out? There are natural waterfalls around Japan that is famous for that. Maybe also possible to arrange one paring with hot spring trip. As Takigyo is practice with cold waterfall water. I hope to be visiting soon..not with so nice weather I suspect.
