some of us are only afking to re-send retainers on ventures so we can crash the wyvern leather market out of petty yet righteous rage over the prices for such a low-level mat, i'll have you know.
Realtalk though the tech is kind of amazing. There's plenty of SFW mods you can get. It used to only be a model replacer that required the game to be recompiled whenever you wanted to change the mods, which meant every piece of gear was replaced on every person it was on. Now, mods can be activated and deactivated at runtime, and applied to only specific characters. Mare is actually an amazing program as well.
Oh lol it's Telrador, one of the biggest EU PF clowns in the last 3 years, massive ego problems that are apparently not limited to his raiding activities, all because he's an insecure kid with no personality.

also the lfm wasn't looking for mare, they thought you were real staff and reminding you to put your "staff badge" on, clubs generally use looking for meld as general staff badges and looking for party for erp dancer/court badges
As someone who has played for 4 years,,, this made me realise I don’t know anything about mods. I thought people just used them to take aesthetic pictures 😭 I didn’t know half this stuff was possible,,, I will forever be suspicious anytime I see a large group of people afk now omg 💀
They are. They should be avoided for that alone. Though tbh I only have 2 modded dances, one that's the club penguin dance and one that spins me constantly while "you spin me right round" plays on a loop.
I have an acquaintance who said that they don’t mod their character to the point that they don’t look like they’re from FFXIV anymore, I took one look at a screenshot they sent me (I play on console so no mods for me, kind of a blessing tbh) and their character looked straight out of VRChat
Honestly personal taste just differs and what looks fitting in 14 to someone is just really different per person. I wanted some subtle make-up for my character the other day and I went through 27 pages of mods claiming to be "subtle" when they were more than any person would ever wear in reality 😅
Yeah, am pretty involved in the venue scene (Though I am more for the ones that are about music, not the casino and ERP stuff). They've been around for a long time. They first became prevalent in 2019, but there were some before that. Hell, we ran a "venue" in WoW all the way back in The Burning Crusade. Though, without player housing we just took over one of 3 out-of-the-way locations each week on rotation. That was also much more roleplay based than most large venues in FF.
Hello, avid modder and clubgoer here, and I think your video is extremely important for just, giving people a new perspective. It's easy to be so into the modding scene that you don't really think about what's happening on the outside. It's also easy to just be a casual player for 5 years and not realize what all those club links people spam actually get you into. And yeah some people go insane with their mods, especially male avatars and their huge tattoos. And most of them never see themselves as adventurers, they just go to clubs and socialize. I do wanna clarify one thing though. Some places aren't like what you went to, but those nightclubs are definitely the loudest and most prevalent. As you stated in the video, alot of it isn't really note worthy. But most places I've seen like cafes and small restaurants are mostly chill with subtle mods, its all about picking to your preference. And alot of the cute small cafes don't attract modbeasts. So for those looking for a casual RP experience I would recommend those places. Most of them won't even offer mare codes, only if you ask. Also video was funny af, thanks for sharing your experience.
100% agree, I once went to a cafe where a person was writing a story on the fly and at key points the audience would decide from different options the story could go in... like a choose your own adventure book that was being crafted in real time. It was such a fun wholesome experience, honestly there's a lot of really great social player-crafted experiences to be had; the degen modbeast venues are just one extreme part of it.
+1, I work at an RP restaurant and everyone is really chill. Actual immersive roleplaying with normal people who aren't 8 foot tall with DDs and a 2ft peen, and no syncshell outside of just for the few staff we have. Definitely keeping a 10 foot pole between myself and nightclubs/its inhabitants though, I'll just sip my tea with my simple scale recolor and eye texture.
the general impression i get is that it's always safer to go to places you find out about from a friend or are advertised in a less impersonal way than the random spammy shouts. i don't fully mind the weirder clubs existing as long as they're taking extreme precautions to be sure minors aren't getting involved but it's never made clear that they're intrinsically NSFW so if you want to be sure you avoid that I'd just follow the "only trust people you know" rule of thumb
This is very important to bring up because there really is 2 different mod scenes in FFXIV and sadly the Modbeasts are the more infamous ones. Most modders change very little or look for mainly graphical enhacements/ VFX changes or to fit the lore of their WoL better. As an example for my character I can't stand MCH Chainsaw for being kinda a bad VFX so I added the infamous Nier Puppet's Bunker stack wiping laser and made it canon my WoL scrounged around in the Nier location to pick up new tech to use as a MCH (I also recommend using the Critical hit sound creator cause my god hearing Chainsaw direct Crit on a massive pack scratches the same itch as Drill. TF2's crit sound is so good)
Going through the mod site is like thrifting. Most of it is just not it and then every once in a while you strike gold and find Emet Selch doing the Specialist dance over Bee's Knees
there's a lot of lore-friendly/vanilla mashup stuff that makes me wish CBU3 would hire more gear artists or overhaul the glamour systems you've got like a thousand interesting clothing pieces to work with, but apparently some people aren't satisfied with anything less than a heavily pregnant fursuit
those vanilla mashups are bonkers in terms of what they pull off with the in-game materials. mostly they tell me people really just wanna be cute and/or wear more armor combos.
It's a riot in any content where mass casualties can occur, like S ranks or boss fates where you just hear BBBBOBONGBONGBONG when lots of people eat shit to a mechanic
the best thing about mare is you can see peoples terrible taste in fashion and tats and if they walked around like that RL they would get beat up by everyone.
As someone who uses and makes mods (tho i limit myself to vanilla mashups) , I cannot understand why with all these tools available, people choose to look the exact same. Everyone’s just a big-boobied chick with a fat ass and 0 clothes. No harm in wanting your character to be attractive, or sexy but why are they all so skimpy 24/7. Plus, not being vanilla-like for the msq would take me out of the experience.
This. If I use them, I always play around to have an actual unique style just for shits and giggles. But the rest in the open synch looks like big tiddie harlots or edgy emo boys with the very same clothes and idles.
Same here!! I use a SHIT TON of mods, but mine are way more subtle. Things like different eye textures, giving myself makeup AND freckles, better eyebrows, and full-body freckles. Hair mashups stay mostly vanilla, like one that blends the gyr abanian ponytail with the bangs from the rainmaker hair. I mostly mod skill effects, silly sound effects, and UI stuff. These "modbeasts" terrify me.
FOR REAL! I swear to god, you just summarized my grievances with customization trends in this single comment. It all just circles back to being basic bitch generic when everyone does it. I'm a mod consumer myself, but I keep it tasteful and vanilla-friendly. The most you'll see on me is a ribbon on my tail, VFX that fits my character's lore, and maybe a genderswapped female on male piece of gear.
I feel this, I just swapped to PC and I'm loving the vanilla+ look I've gone with. It's actually funny when I synced up with my friends cause they'd have 75-150mib downloads and I'd just be there... With a wee little 16mib download with 860 modded polygons.
Now that you mentioned Raz, we met his girlfriend in Alliance raid roul and she was yapping about you being good with him and this all being "staged". Even his "gf" is just talking nonsense LOL
as a modder (as in actually making the mods) this is hilarious. Personally i use my mods to make my oc fit my personal lore, i dont go to clubs or do the erp eorzean nightlife stuff lol Its funny to see this side of the modding scene XD
i use only a few subtle visual mods, like adding bunny tails to viera. In Limsa one time, and a male Au-Ra asks to trade mare. I think: Sure! (clueless). The modbeast crashed my game. multiple times. I had to load the game normally because everytime I logged in, the enormous load that was the horror of his character would boot me out immediately.
I don't really have a problem with Mare as you have to actually download and install it to see all this stuff. But my inner troll kinda wants to get a bunch of people modded to look like 40k Black Templars and go mess with some of these venues.
What have we learned kids? Say no to mods. Stay in Sharlayan. 25:11 Nope. This is my limit. I'm dipping after that. Y'all braver souls than i will ever be. Peace ✌🏽
Like, if I sit there for 5 hours and make a hair from scratch, I should be able to sell it for 3-5 dollars. As you would on second life lol. We have to do texturing, modeling, rigging, weight painting, substance painting, light reflections, pathing, scripting, coding, could go on. Stop punishing artists. Condemn the ones who modify vanilla files and sell them.
@@ねこ男の子 oh yeah no worries, if there's a market for it and people are willing then more power to you, thought maybe the original commenter implied some wilder paid mods, of which there probably are plenty though, but paying for smutty mods is a wild concept to me.
Seeing yall try to use mods as someone who has been using them for a time (and still has trouble with them sometimes) was cute LOL I’m glad you did another video on FFXIV that I can laugh at while eating a late dinner …On another note, the guy who was beefing with you has the same hair mod I use for my Miqo’te guy and I was so traumatized at how he acted that I changed his hair by just making it longer LOL
Decided to try and get into the RP/mod side of things on ff14 since I was bored (I've played since HW) , joined discords even, and I found a theme that most people that did it and specially the people that did the degen stuff were shut in and/or social rejects irl. Tbh it was pretty sad. But that's not the weird part The weird part is when you tried to help these people they'd attack you and come up with excuses as to why they can't make their life better, and then later glorify how much issues they had. smh I'd go as far as to say ff14 has the darkest under belly out of all the MMO out there, the mod/rp scene is just insane and filled with drama.
And this is a perfect example of why A) I always have a vanilla glam to accompany any modded outfit I'm using and B) Don't ever join syncshells for random clubs I'm dropping by. Hell, I'm reluctant to join syncshells for clubs I've worked for. People just go way over the top with the mods too often and just shatter the immersion. I wish I could find actually good venues for some genuine, in-world RP. Doesn't need to be perfectly accurate or meticulously done. Just let it actually serve a purpose other than to compensate for such an obvious lack of social skills.
There are plenty. If it’s not advertised in block letters, is only in PF, and the word “gamba” is not mentioned, give it a visit. You have better than coin flip odds that those are normal people. I know some specific places in Primal, but I’d rather not yap about them where modbeasts can see.
From a modder herself the best way to explain this is levels, every player has their limits. For example, mine is just glam mods i enjoy making my miqo pretty, some people do it for memes and there are people who create these out of body proportion characters or they have some NSFW interest in animals 💀 the vast majority of players just do it for cosmetic nothing sexual but there is so much degenerate stuff hence why i stay away from limsa and clubs keeping my mare private only with friends
An entire world of people with no taste or restraint. Maybe I was too harsh on people who gave themselves heterochromia to try and be unique, that's nothing compared to a nightclub full of people all trying to be the tallest person in the room.
Considering my laptop would implode if I ever tried doing any mod things, it's actually wild to see the extent of them...both the creative and the entirely blurred out images...
I understand all the questionable stuff but i must say that, as a ps4 player i cant see the stuff, but i wish i could cause its just way to funny. Like, to all the erp'ers out there keep doing your stuff, the stories are just way too funny. I just think the extrapolation when people bring the erp to irl is the real peoblem.
As someone who's been roleplaying (and I mean roleplaying, not ERP) on XIV since game launch, I am absolutely positive I will never touch a mod with a ten foot pole. Thanks for enlightening me.
You’re seeing the worst of it. I see a lot of Mare users who literally change nothing, or make their character one inch shorter than the minimum, or convert their midlanders into Garleans, or give their psychotic Xaela some fangs. What you definitely shouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole, is nightclub syncshells. Provided you never put those codes in, you will never have to see a furry three-way in Limsa.

I don't really have a problem with Mare as you have to actually download and install it to see all this stuff. But my inner troll kinda wants to get a bunch of people modded to look like 40k Black Templars and go mess with some of these venues.
If youre on Light or Chaos hit me up that sounds fucking hilarious XD
The Emperor would be proud.
Purge the heretics brother.
What have we learned kids? Say no to mods. Stay in Sharlayan.
25:11 Nope. This is my limit. I'm dipping after that. Y'all braver souls than i will ever be. Peace ✌🏽
I hadn't laughed this hard in a while xDD ty for the shenanigans xD
Wait until you hear about paid modders…
tl;dr me
Tldr. A lot of mesh artists steal and put price tags. But most of us make original meshes. And broke people like OP cry about it.
@@Dweskforgot to @ you lol
The disappointed ‘Jean Claude’ during the ‘big pull’ was peak
People be modding there characters so much they look stupid oiled up and insanely jacked look like came out of a hot topic
Seeing yall try to use mods as someone who has been using them for a time (and still has trouble with them sometimes) was cute LOL I’m glad you did another video on FFXIV that I can laugh at while eating a late dinner
…On another note, the guy who was beefing with you has the same hair mod I use for my Miqo’te guy and I was so traumatized at how he acted that I changed his hair by just making it longer LOL
holy fuck the yakuza moment made me laugh so hard i cried
i needed this, Thanx you. Laughed so hard..i knew there were night clubs but this was Gold
whats funny to think about is ppl doing it are sitting in their chair just having the most insane jack of their life
you guys are so funny, "Video game, Yeah!!" AT THE SAME TIME
That was one of the funniest videos ive seen in a while. Pls do some more 😂
my sides hurt, that was so much fun watching. Your friend killed it with those gooffy ahh animation mods.
Oohboy I expect compensation for my therapy, thank you.
After seeing this, I don't think I can rightfully call myself a furry anymore. I'm being outscaled here.
This is by far the best ffxiv video i've seen and i don't think anyone can capture this side of it better than you lmao
I haven't laughed as much at a RUclips video as I did at this one for a long time. thanks guys, this one made my day 👌🏻👽
I would watch a two hour long video of you two just horsing around, legitimately.
Decided to try and get into the RP/mod side of things on ff14 since I was bored (I've played since HW) , joined discords even, and I found a theme that most people that did it and specially the people that did the degen stuff were shut in and/or social rejects irl. Tbh it was pretty sad. But that's not the weird part
The weird part is when you tried to help these people they'd attack you and come up with excuses as to why they can't make their life better, and then later glorify how much issues they had. smh
I'd go as far as to say ff14 has the darkest under belly out of all the MMO out there, the mod/rp scene is just insane and filled with drama.
not just the mod/rp scene, the game community itself regularly has drama
@@benjimaxbobjohn ffxiv community is just a group of weirdos that got bullied out of every other game
It’s all fun and games till you see yourself in the video 💀
From a modder herself the best way to explain this is levels, every player has their limits. For example, mine is just glam mods i enjoy making my miqo pretty, some people do it for memes and there are people who create these out of body proportion characters or they have some NSFW interest in animals 💀 the vast majority of players just do it for cosmetic nothing sexual but there is so much degenerate stuff hence why i stay away from limsa and clubs keeping my mare private only with friends
Yeah the unspoken rule of Mare is you don't connect with random people. That's when you get the Modbeasts and VRchat rejects
@@iaxacs3801 meanwhile I'm in every balmung syncshell I can find because I find that shit fucking hilarious
@@bigfoot1291 living up to that No Game No Life pfp I see
@@iaxacs3801 I'm not sure I see the correlation, can you explain it?
what the hell is wrong with these people lmao, this side of ff14 is... something
Good idea for shocktober, maybe?
Yeah, that Garfield left me genuinely disturbed… they need serious help
thank god someone made a video on this second life bullshit
thank you for this I havent laughed out loud like I just did for a long time
I'm incredibly excited to hear some music from bravely default at 17:05 one of my fave tracks
26:55 Telrador Dragonslayer is the standard fat discord mod irl.
Balmung, outside of the Adventurer's Guild Aetheryte in Ul'dah on Crystal. The bench. That's all, man.
The Second Life virus had found a new host
An entire world of people with no taste or restraint. Maybe I was too harsh on people who gave themselves heterochromia to try and be unique, that's nothing compared to a nightclub full of people all trying to be the tallest person in the room.
Yeah at some point ffxiv modding became a scene of "Fuck it, we ball."
You are doing the lord's work.
Great video, I enjoyed this one! When are you visiting the Crystal datacenter?
Wait until he finds out about the mpreg mods.
*as a modder myself* holy shit the mods get so fucking horny, lol
You had me at Dumptruck Matoya
Bro, im crying this is exactly my humour
2.4gb of mods when entering a club, you KNOW everyone and their mothers have mods omg
haven't laughed so hard in a while. great video 😂
This is the most amazing thing ive ever seen xiv wise, id love to just see you guys explore mods more its so fuckin funny
Don't think I didn't see that Gary Gilbert reference. I see you XD
Rats cc fr
HAHAHASDJKDNSDFJK love you ♥ made my morning
As someone who's been roleplaying (and I mean roleplaying, not ERP) on XIV since game launch, I am absolutely positive I will never touch a mod with a ten foot pole. Thanks for enlightening me.
You’re seeing the worst of it. I see a lot of Mare users who literally change nothing, or make their character one inch shorter than the minimum, or convert their midlanders into Garleans, or give their psychotic Xaela some fangs.
What you definitely shouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole, is nightclub syncshells. Provided you never put those codes in, you will never have to see a furry three-way in Limsa.
these are just the guys who don’t know how to properly keep their mods within a sizable amount; trust me, most aren’t like this lmao
