  • J.P. Crawford was expected to make his return when the Mariners kick off a three-game set with the Orioles on Friday, but that may be put on pause after the shortstop was hit on the hand by a pitch in what was supposed to be his final rehab appearance in Tacoma on Wednesday night. However, if early reports ring true and Crawford dodged a significant bullet, how will Seattle reinsert its captain into the lineup? Ty and Colby answer that and discuss what ESPN's Jeff Passan told 710 Seattle Sports about the Mariners' farm system and the trade market.

    I truly think that trading from this farm is a mistake. There are absolute dudes and it’s stacked beyond anyone’s imagination. Robert is an injury prone 26 year old. Awesome when healthy but can never stay healthy. Absolutely the wrong player to blow the farm up for.

    • @zackbleecker7630
      @zackbleecker7630 27 дней назад +1

      And even then as you said, Jerry SHOULD be smart enough (jury is out on that one) to see what you just said, injury prone, strikes out alot, the media can say there is tons of value there, but any smart GM if they aren't the one's getting a deal, then onto the next, you shouldn't trade any of the young studs up and coming on the hitting side.

    This team is delusional. This lineup isn't close to being good enough consistently to contend for a title. So the mariners can hold on to these pitchers until they have to pay them, at which time they'll trade the pitchers anyway. And the Mariners need more than just one impact bat.

    • @jayrah33

    • @jeffgreen3427
      @jeffgreen3427 27 дней назад +2

      Yeah the time is not going to line up the kids that are in the minor leagues that can hit by the time they get up here they won't be able to afford to pay Gilbert Kirby and Miller so then we'll have an all offensive team and no pitching

    • @McZsh
      @McZsh 27 дней назад +1

      If they win series vs top noch adversaries, they are certainly good enough. Technically, they have two impact bats on the roster having a career slump.

      That and he has even less plate discipline than K-Oscar Hernandez; that's saying something, not to mention his 3 years of so-called "club control" is $55M ($15M in 2025, $20M in 2026 and 2027). HARD pass.

    Jp had an exceptional year in 2023. But Rojas is much more ur traditional lead off hitter then jp Crawford. Even though Julio isn't playing up to his first 2 years, the major emphasis on the scouting report isn't jp Crawford. A read an article stating one of the major problems for Julio is that the mariners have hitter around him who shouldn't bat in the top five of a lineup. Note- canzone isn't a whole lot better outfielder then hanger.

  • @SeattleSporting
    @SeattleSporting 27 дней назад +2

    Even if we didn't have Julio and therefore needed a premium defender out in CF like Robert I still don't think any trade package would be worth the risk of him barely playing for the length of the contract. Robert is not quite in Buxton territory of pencil him in for under 400 PA, but he's getting close.

    Now is the time time to take a big risk and go all in for a championship with this pitching staff. This year and maybe next year is it. Maybe Luis Robert isn’t the guy to go for. But they should go for somebody. or a couple guys right now 100%. Send every prospect you have if necessary.

    I’m probably gonna sound absolutely insane because Mariners fans are understandably hungry for postseason success.
    I know there’s some amazing upside in Jeter Martinez but to me the untouchables are Young, Emerson, Montes and Celesten. Even if you trade some of those guys, I’m just not sure it makes them a hands down WS contender.
    We are missing two of our three best relievers due to injury and Julio is 23. You have an incredible rotation that will continue to be top 3 if Bryan Woo stays healthy in the long term.
    If they can get Robert without trading any of the prospects I think are untouchable, I’m all for it. I can only justify trading for Alonso if it is on the cheaper side for prospects due to age.

  • @davidpankey23

    My 1st thought the other day when Rojas fouled off Wacha's 1st pitch of the game was that JP likely would have hit a HR. It was a 93 MPH fastball right in the middle of the plate. Rojas has been good, but JP has more power and is used to leading off, and should once he returns and gets settled. Still believe Julio will end up batting 3rd at some point, and it would be best for him and the club given the roster.

    • @petermoran8291
      @petermoran8291 27 дней назад +2

      I am guessing you either didn't watch, or are ignoring, JP's performance to start the season. I love Crawford, but, career wise, last year was an outlier. I am hoping that the changes he made last year to his swing, and his successes, continue into the remaining part of the season, but the early season returns weren't good. Roja's has had the most professional approach and the best success at the plate of any Mariner this season. JP on a heater might match Roja's production, but to act like he would outperform Josh during this stretch is disingenuous at best. Josh has earned a spot in the top of the lineup.

      JP last 21 AB before IL: 7-21..3 K's/3 BB. OPS rose from .505 to .598.
      Rojas last 37 AB: 10-37...11 Ks/1 BB. OPS dropped from .979 to .877. 🤷‍♂️
