How to build a natural organic swimming pool

  • A step by step description on how we build our own natural pool in the garden.
    Update.
    A few people have asked about price and work load. I think the total cost landed close to 40k USD. It took 1½ year, but that includes some no-work periods because of waiting time for material (COVID!!) and we waited 3 months for the liner guy to begin his work. The 2 biggest single costs were the liner and the material for the wood decking.
    Update.
    A few words about filtration rate. As mentioned if you build a tecnical wetland setup your filtration rate can not be too high because the plant roots needs time to filter nutrients out of the water. According to the books I used the rate should not be more than 30cm/hour. That equals 300 liters of water/m2. My total water surface is approx. 85m2. But the vertical speed of water is higher in the filtration zone because the filter material is taking up much of the space. So I halfed the surface area for the calculation. That gives me a max. filtration rate of 42m2 x 300 liter/hour = 12.600 liters/hour. This being the maximum filtration rate, I desided to go for 6.000 liter/hour to give the plant roots more time for filtration. So far it seems to work :-)

    Can you do an update video with some things you learned over the years running this pool and what to avoid

    Ah yes, thank you youtube, I was looking for a way to build a pool. On my 1st floor apartment in the city. Thanks.
    Great explanation Karsten looks like it took a lot of effort.

    I work on a chemical plant and it doesn't take as long as you'd think for pipes to freeze up, especially if they aren't lagged., I would definitely recommend some insulation for around the pipes if you don't have any. Last thing you want is for all your pipes to burst. This is in the UK by the way so similar winters to yourself, with colder temperatures not quite reaching the -20s that you were talking about.

    I love natural pools and most of them come in natural settings like they have always been there, with big rocks and falls. However, I am also a fan of clean lines, aesthetics, etc. I love that there IS an option for a natural swimming pool to look sleek and modern too. Thank you!

    Probably already mentioned but it maybe worth looking in to a Bubble pump, you'd need to increase the size of you feed pipes to 100mm (4") but it would be far more efficient at around only 70watts so could easily be run 24/7 on a small solar all year round :) great Job by the way as the other design I saw else where used a lot more plastic and a lot more complex for no reason.
    thanks for the effort.

    • @cros13
      @cros13 11 месяцев назад +1

      Bubble pump would not be able to maintain the required flow rate for this system. Likely need a larger filtration area to use that.
