Thanks for all your videos. I have been swimming since I was eight but I have improved more in the last six months than I have in the past thanks to these (and other such) videos. Your analysis is very helpful.

Everything you say makes complete sense. The video clip however doesn’t show bilateral breathing, or have I missed something?

Hi thanks - the outreached arm seems to give some balance to the head turning to catch a breath (like you're leaning on the water ) and seems to act as a stabiliser making it easier

Do you have any tips to re-focus concentration whilst swinming, I tend to drift away during training and actually forget what I'm doing! :/ Also any motivational tips just to keep going? I love swimming but sometimes in the cold dark winter mornings and evenings that are quickly approaching here in England motivation can be a struggle.... Thank you, really enjoying your channel :) Gem

I was just practicing my opposite side breathing. I have a tendency to raise one of my shoulders higher than the other, causing an imbalance, even on land, and even while doing normal things like walking or even sitting. And then I noticed when I do “normal”(not opposite side) breathing, I always turn too much, like I’m flipping over. And I could turn the opposite side underwater. So I thought “what if I just don’t care about breathing and just do (or at least think of doing) a full rotation along the right side of my body?” And earlier today I tried it, it actually worked for me. It felt really dizzy at first as I overdone it, but then when I go back swimming normally, I could feel the intense tension in my body while I’m trying to opposite side breathe reduce significantly. It’s still not completely tension-less, but I guess that’s a step for me.
Of course, given my conditions, it probably won’t work for a lot of people, I just thought it would be interesting to share.

hi. In all your videos on the stretch I see the hands look like they are approx 2 inch below surface is there a rule where the hands should be to reduce drag? I was thinking the hands should renter the water and stretch as close to the surface as possible, maybe that's incorrect. thank you for your advice. a big thumbs up from Lincolnshire UK

Is it common to breathe every 2 strokes in long distance swim? I may need to switch from breathing every 3 strokes to every 2 so that I can swim longer

Yes your question is relevant and unanswered. I have the same issue. Solomon looks like he has a ratio of 2:1 and others 3:1. I can only get to 100m honestly with 3:1 and feel buggered. I dont know whether this is an issue of the breathing 3:1 but most certainly it could be due to technique. Then I wonder is it actually better to train with 3:1? The breathing ratios were quite different between the swimmers above and not addressed in the video.

This definitely needs a video. Breathing ratio is way more important in this video and is unaddressed

I have a question related to breathing; I've been swimming for 21 years now, but I still tend to hold my breath to much instead of exhaling properly underwater. Have you got any tips/drills for that?
Love the channel, keep doing what you do :*

I just happened to see this video by chance 6 days ago. /watch?v=GJikb2gnOf4&t=0s
It may help you as well.
Personally, I'd advise you to practise floating in the water in the water, and slowly releasing all your air out of your lungs then come back up for air and repeat. Respond if you have questions, I'll try to help with my English. Thanks

Breathing should be done quite naturally, such that you don't think too much, but just inhale when out of water then exhale. Depending on long you exhale your breath in the water, you can do either 2 or 3 strokes before coming up for air. Practice and practice until you find your natural stroke number. For me, I started with 2 strokes, and for past 1 year, changed it to 3 strokes but for that, you need to be comfortable with bilateral breathing. Again, everyone has their technique. Just try and see which one fits you the best.

I have been working on rotating better lately and I'm finding, it tires me out more. Is it in my head or is the process of initiating the rotation from the hips, more taxing?

You might be overkicking, as in kicking harder than you need. Keep the kick small and relaxed or try with a pull buoy and see if that makes a difference
