Just completed the installation of the 7" version in my 66 convertible. Only challenge was getting the radio unit centered in the existing dash opening so the screen fit below the dashboard overhang. I did tape down the two screen release buttons so that I can pull the screen out when parking away from home.
Awesome! I hadn’t thought about taping those down. I’ll have to look into that. It’s not to hard getting it disconnected but does take some fiddling with it. Yeah it was a close fit. On the back of the screen there should be an adjustment to slide the screen up or down.I had to slide my screen all the way down. So it would clear.
Oh yeah. I get that. The way I look at it is if someone wants something bad enough they will try. Even for stock stuff. Best we can do is lock it up. And maybe do an alarm and keep a low comp deductible on insurance. Nice thing about this is They will have a hell of a time though trying to get it all out as it’s bolted in 3 spots and the dash isn’t plastic like all the newer cars.
It’s honestly been quite a while since I originally hooked up/ converted my old under dash radio from the old am radio. ⚠️ ALSO KEEP IN MIND IM NOT A PROFESSIONAL AND CAN NOT GUARANTEE THIS IS THE RIGHT WIRING. Looking under my dash I have a blue wire with red stripe connected to the radio red wire which under the manual on my radio says it’s for accessory 12v. I also have a wire tap run from the back of the fuse block from a black wire with green stripe it looks like goes to the yellow wire on the new radio which is for constant 12v on my new radio. Other than that I have a ground wire and also have the speakers connected to the corresponding wires on the new radio.
Tbh I don’t know. I have allot of spare washers and screws in my collection of miscellaneous hardware so I just dug through what I had. The screws I used against the radio and the sleeve were flat top screws. So they didn’t dig into it.
The new radio had the sleeve that it slides into. I did remove the thin plastic trim on the front of the radio. It also came with one thin strap/ straight pieces that I bent around. And my old radio in the car had one as well that I re purposed.
I like the 7” I put in. It fills the space nicely and I have just barely enough room to get my hands on there if I need to detach the screen for anything. Don’t know how or think a bigger one would work.

It is allot better than my old stereo I had installed under the dash. Only thing is. The hands free portion on mine isn’t working yet. From what I was reading online somewhere is it puts the hands free call sound through your front speakers which I don’t have. So can’t confirm if that is accurate or not. Only other thing is when I’m driving and go to turn up or down the volume I accidentally pause it lol just takes some getting used to.

Very nice. My only concern is someone stealing it. These old cars are easy to break into

How did you wire it up to work with existing wiring in the 66?

Do you have a link to where you got the unit? I want to upgrade my stereo in my mustang as well and I like how this came out.
