Agreed. As a drummer, I love his loose playing style and deep grooves. Always playing for the song, singing always changes a playing style but Levin did it in a way that looked effortless.

That was his first ALL-STAR BAND, and WHAT A BAND!! They each took turns playing hits from their individual bands. Two or three songs each. I caught their show at the Saratoga Performing Arts Centre in Saratoga, New York. Probably the best concert I ever went too. What a line-up!!
This must have been a fabulous tour organized by Ringo Starr. Oh, but to be a fly on the wall !! This time frame was several years before his throat cancer diagnosis. The point being during this time period Levon was still in full control of his "gift". Hard to believe that was 28 years ago. You're with the heavenly choir now Levon. RIP
I went to this concert when they were in Indianapolis Indiana. My friend and I met Levon Helm and got his autograph. He was a great guy. A great concert and memory. 😀❤

And i can see why Ringo called Levon and Rick: The Band were one of the ten or so best straight-up ensemble groups of the Sixties/Seventies, along with The Beatles, Booker T + the MGs, and the great studio bands - and now, Ringo got to play with The Band as well!

Many great artists would show up for the jams. They were so popular he would have to sell tickets to keep the number of people manageable . Nearly every time an amazing lineup takes place, Jim Keltner is there. The most unknown, yet accomplished drummer around I reckon. His Christmas card list must read like a who's who in music! I saw him with Little Village. Remember them?

Hal Blaine contributed to 10,000 pop recordings over tge course of his life. It would be hard to say who was most successful. I won't quibble. They are both incredible.

Wow! This is great! I have tis on audio-cd but never saw it on video. Ringo did such a fantastic (still does!) job putting together the All-Starr bands. They always made great music together and have a lot of fun doing it! Young at 73 and still going strong ! Happy 73rd Birthday Ringo!

I saw this tour in Mansfield Massachusetts, it was called Great Woods back then, probably the best concert I have ever seen, so many Hall of famers on one stage all relatively young,playing great together,what a song list! I saw all Starr band many times over the years,but 89 the first line up, was historical one of a time event,I’ll always treasure that show!
I look back at some of the videos and dam near cry everytime. When I was really depressed time in my life I would watch Levon videos for hours. 100% got me thru some tough times.
Levon was the real deal…love his voice, love his drumming…a true American treasure…I had a cup of coffee & a slice of pie with him on an Autumn Saturday sitting at the counter at a diner in Woodstock in the early ‘90s (THE diner in Woodstock?) he was beyond friendly; we talked shop and was sincerely humble & appreciative when I complimented his work with The Band…a very cool 20 minutes; the guitar playing here is pretty damn groovy too (not to mention it’s always great to see Ringo drumming on someone else’s material)

Pretty mindblowing to see and hear this, especially hearing Joe and Nils playing off each other, Rick and Levon doing what they've done together since they were just kids, and just seeing Billy Preston and Dr John made me choked up a bit.
Dozens of their songs kept my spirits up over the years...and it all started with Cripple Creek...had no idea Garth was doing that essential part on an organ.
Levon Helm was the only person in the world that could sing this song right.
