Watching you peel potatoes brought up a sweet memory. When I was a little girl I use to watch my Mama and Granny peel potatoes like that and I would ask how they did it so fast and if I could ever do it that fast. Now I can and I can't help but smile. Thankful for the sweet women I'm blessed to call my Mama and Granny. ❤

The chicken dish looks so delicious. That’s a great meal you made. I see the joy on yours and Mr. Browns faces out in the garden. It’s such rewarding work when you harvest your crop. Your house looks magical at night with the little lights glowing. The sound of the peep frogs is so peaceful and serene. I love when Mr. Brown reads the stories about the Great Depression. Our nation has become ungrateful, spoiled and godless. I pray people will turn to God and ask for forgiveness so that he will heal our land. God bless you and Mr. Brown and your family.

Good looking supper, loved the reading. My parents were young during the depression years,Dad didn't talk about it but my Mom did,Dad lived on a farm and worked from the time he was eight, didn't get much school but there was always food ,not everybody was that lucky. His Mom was the only grandmother I knew. My Mom's parents had to move to a city out of a mountainous region to find work, her Dad worked at a CCC camp for awhile and then factories, they both died young her Mom was only 36,her Dad was 44 at death...all I have are a few pictures. There was a lot of malnutrition in those days and illnesses, childbirth once again was rough, and many born at home. People looked thin and old before their time. They had a lot of character though, and lots made it by the grace of God,they believed. You'll take care, love you,and prayers for you and your family.💞

Blessing and prayers for a complete and speedy recovery for your daughter! I love your podcast! Young viewers need to be reminded about the depression era happenings and work attitudes toward work! Old fashion hard work, good manners, respect, and kindness toward others and the elderly is like a thing of the past. Too many people are on food stamps, the under the table way, so sad! Always live frugally and never ask for a hand out. Trying to be good stewards of the land as best I can!
Thank you for sharing! Keep up the good work! Take good care! ❤❤

My husband and I really enjoy your videos so much. I want to let you know I canned with my pressure cooker for the first time. I'm 71 yrs old and my mother bought it for me in the 1970ies. I told you in January this was my new years resolution. I did 7 qts pinto beans. Well the lid got stuck but the beans still turned out so good. I bought me a new and bigger cooker. I wasn't going to let that discourage me. Two weeks later I canned 16 pints . I did great northern, red kidney, and baby limas. They are great. I know this is lengthy but you have helped me to overcome my reluctancy to pressure can. Thank You! We enjoy Danny's readings. Both scriptures and on the depression. Blessings to you and your family. ♥️

My grandma and grandpa went thru the depression, my grandma would boil up left over pork chop bones in milk gravy with potatoe dumplings. Her great aunt ,father and 3 uncles all lived with them in a large old house owned by the great aunt. Her mother died of polio when she was 3.
When me and my sister grew up grandma and grandpa lived with us,, as well as an uncle. We lived in an old farm house a few miles from town, my mom and grandma had a huge garden and canned tons of food. An uncle and aunt and cousins lives next door. Families were close back then.
I remember being teases some due to the family all living together and next door, but I wouldn't change it. I know I learned different life morals, scruples, values , spirituality from each family member. When they say it takes a village to raise a child they were 100% right. Loved your video, sweet memories. Thank you. 😊

Yummy meal Ms Lori ! My parents were teenagers when the depression began so they knew what hardships their families were going through and they went through when they started homemaking of their own , because of their experiences during those days us kids grew up always growing a garden and canning and preparing for hard times that might come! I still grow a garden I. My back yard , not a big one cause I don’t have much land but I plant in my front flower beds and all around the house in pots and around bushes as well as having my garden space so I do manage to put up a pretty good amount every year as well as shopping sales on produce and putting it up also , I also have lots of staples like flour, meal, sugar, grits , beans , salt , pepper snd spices ! God bless y’all for showing such great videos , please also continue to teach of the old ways and depression cooking !! Ms Lori you might know this already but if not for another delicious meal when making mashed potatoes- wash the potatoes well before peeling and pack your potato peels in a glass jar and cover them with water and put in fridge , in the next day or so or few days drain the potato’s peels and either fry or bake them , when done cover with shredded cheddar cheese and too with diced tomatoes , chopped lettuce and sour cream if you want it and you have a delicious meal out of what you’d have fed to the chickens or thrown out !! ❤️🙏🙋🏻

What a beautiful visit…Mrs Lori I have admired your irises for years…and Mr Brown I would love you to read to me every night ! The people of the depression era(my late father included) were in my opinion the greatest Americans that ever walked this land…god bless xox

My mom and dad were newlyweds during the depression. She told us how hard it was finding work. They lived in the mountains of southwest Virginia. Dad did a lot of odd jobs for people. In mom's ladder years, she hardly threw away anything. Her saying was always the same, "if you'd lived through the depression, you would know why I don't like throwing away anything I might use later." They kept a milk cow that provided milk, buttermilk, and butter. They also had chickens for eggs. In the summer they raised a garden and mom canned enough to get them through the winter. Lori, your chicken dish looked delicious. I'm like Mr. Brown, I love mashed potatoes!!! They go good with about anything.

Dinner looks good! Some of the best dishes I’ve ever made were just throw together meals. I liked Pa reading us some history about the Great Depression. I hope you both have a wonderful blessed weekend 💞

Beautiful garden and those lights around your house are just stunning.
If that Mr. Rabbit will find a way to dig himself into your garden just sprinkle some cayenne pepper flakes where he is digging or els spray your plants with a solution made of the same pepper, it won't harm your plants but it will teach Mr. Rabbit a lesson.

To my Friends and honestly the Keeper of the Old Ways. I really just wanted to tell you about how much o enjoy your channel. You keep things so light and airy. When Mr. Brown reads from the Bible, it gives me so much down deep in my heart. I was not in a family that had much to do as far as praying. I know that with God, all things are possible!
I get so much out of your recipes especially with the canning and preserving food. I can’t afford to buy the excess food and all the jars but I want to be prepared. I have over the last year probably canned a few hundred or more of ready to eat meals.
I have severe Back issues and have not been able to do hardly anything over the past few weeks but I am still getting meat when it’s on sale. Canning has always been a big part of my life but was not the meals. My Beef Stew is delicious and that’s just a start.
I think I already know the answer to this question but will ask the Pro anyway. I just purchased a 6-pack of half gallon jars and will use them for vacuuming but I have found Chicken on sale a lot including whole chickens. I was curious to know if it would be safe to can Whole Chickens using that size jar. I have seen whole fryers in the cans which I don’t care for cuz of the fat content. It always looks slimy too. But since they can do it in the cans, I would really like to Can the whole Chickens.
Thank you for everything you give me and others. I’m not able to help support your channel but if it were possible, please know that I would. I am alone, disabled and widowed for nearly 10 years now. It is only Through Our Savior, Jesus Christ that I have been able to remain in my home. I am having surgery May 5th to have it rebuilt and between that and the pain in my Back, it is a struggle. I have been Blessed by Jesus to have been able to can up the meals so now I grab a jar of Beef Stew or chicken, or Spicy Pork Chunk’s. I am sure that without Jesus’ help, I would not have been able to have all these things prepared. We don’t necessarily wait for world war 3 to be in need for the food. This is everyday life. I am Grateful. God Bless You & Mr Brown. Thank you, Jilli Pritchard from Western Washington. It’s beautiful and if the humidity gets to be too bad, please consider you both to be welcomed guests.

Mrs. Lori, the meal looked delicious. You make mashed taters like I do, with a tater masher. My husband and youngest son are tater eaters. The walk thru your garden was so nice. Mr. Brown, the reading about the depression makes us appreciate what we all have. I have some of the books you are reading from. Thank you for sharing with all your youtube friends. Mrs. Lori, I love your hair do.

Oh, my daughter loves buffalo wild wings sauce, and she used to go for 50 cent wings every week.😁 I've used that kind on wings, super tasty! The chicken looks extra good and creamy with the cream cheese. You peeling potatoes made me think of my grandma cooking when I was a girl...💖 Your brassicas are looking great, and the lights are darling.🥰 When Mr Brown was reading about the man walking for 3 miles every day one way and standing in line just for hopes of getting a job gave me chills! We have SO much to be thankful for!🙌 Thanks so much for a lovely video, and glad your daughter is doing better. God bless you all!!🤗🙏💖🌼🦋🌷

You peel potatoes so fast! 😮 if I did it that fast with a knife in my hand (a very sharp one), you can guarantee I’d need a box of bandaids next to me 😂! The chicken dish looks amazing too. I’ll have to look for that garlic Parmesan stuff tomorrow when I go into town for a few supplies. Thanks for always taking the time to spend time with us. I love your channel❤
