If you water the soil for few days, it will be easy to dig. We have raspberries, black current and a plum tree. We have planted potatoes, garlic, beans, coriander, spinach and beetroot. Last year we had courgettes and cauliflower in the garden. You would know where is Durham by now because of Mr.Cummings. If you come this way, visit Durham. I love your chats between you. I hope you water the apple tree very well. Regularly it needs lot of water, as your soil is so dry. If you are planting a tree, add compost before you put the plant down. Then again you can add more compost, as you did. Hope that helps.

Interesting video. May I suggest some growing tips for next season? 1. I grow potatoes in large tubs as it will be easier pull out the potatoes and also the size will be bigger due to loose soil. Other wise you need to use a rack to dig them out. 2. Best to grow tomatoes in grow bags with supporting sticks in sunny area. 3. Best to plant mint with border patch, otherwise the roots will spread everywhere and difficult to control. 4. If you plant perennial plants they will flower year after year. For early spring -Crocuses, Daffodil and Peonies, for Summer many colourful ones like Gladioli and for autumn Dahlias. If you plant all these bulbs in a group you will have colour throughout the year every year. I got a pygmy apple tree from Netherlands with three vertical branches, it doesn't grow more than 6 feet but each branch is full of apples about 100 each. I have to put a support to hold the weight of the branch.
