Mario maker levels are a mixed bag ofc but I'd argue hold run levels are incredibly sightreadable and take barely any skill at all (congrats you can hold the sprint button and jump) so I wouldn't call this level unfair at all

Sonic: Fleeing an exploding factory, no enemies left, only a pure test of speed deciding if he escapes.
Mario: Fleeing from oncoming King Bills, with hoards of enemies trying to drag him down with them as he runs.
Because Sonic's enemies don't define him, while Mario's do.
I can't name a single sonic enemy, but I could go on a whole list for a large amount of Mario enemies, so adding enemies into Mario's just makes sense, because the enemies define what Mario's strengths are.
It's actually a space station ( or something, i Don't remember it, it's an old fan-game)

"This character is gonna die but if you do this level perfectly they'll live" is probably one of my (favorite tropes even if not all that common) because having that one perfect run and having it as a part of the story makes you really feel like the character doing the badass stunt, since in the game they do every level without dying. SO when a level makes you do it perfectly as fast as possible all the way through it's a pretty cool thing I think
Yeah I think I get that. Similar feeling when you *think* you're about to die in a stage in a video game but something comes in to save you. Be it a platform to break your fall or another player taking out an enemy before it kills you. It's a pretty dope feeling.
I remember that in the very last level of ZOMBI if you die, that's it bad ending, but even then they throw You like 50 zombies at once and is a pain in the ass

It was business as usual for Mario. He had just saved Peach from Bowser's clutches yet again, and he was ready to head back to the Mushroom Kingdom for another one of the amazing cakes that Princess Peach baked herself.
However, this time, Bowser had a plan. As the princess floated back to her kingdom, Bowser said something that got Mario's attention.
"This time, I'm taking you down with me, Mario."
Bowser then pulled out a ? Switch he had stored in his shell, placed it onto the ground, and stomped it with all his might. The ground suddenly began to shake violently, as the sound of multiple large cannons firing off filled the air.
Mario knew those sounds all too well; they were King Bills, the biggest of the Bullet Bill family. He had seen them on his journey before, but never had he heard so many of them being fired off at once.
"Hope Green-Stache can handle his brother being outta lives."
After Bowser said this, Mario was suddenly catapulted onto the top of the castle, where he was now faced with the very same King Bills he heard outside, rapidly approaching him with the sounds of blocks being broken in their wake.
No amount of Super Mushrooms would help him here. The only option he had...

I think if this was a real level they could make it more bearable by Bowser giving you an additional life after dying at the start of the level purely because he gets a kick out of seeing Mario run for his life.

I hate how king bills eyes constantly look at mario. Filled with murder.
As Mario ran out of Bowser’s Castle,he heard something. Something massive encroaching. He slowed down,but quickly knew what it was..
He sped up,just in time,a few centimeters from what were the former tyrant’s emissaries of death. As he ran,he felt something almost indescribable,watching everything be obliterated by the missiles just behind himself.
The scalding heat was near unbearable,the only thing keeping him from collapsing was the sheer adrenaline pumping through. It felt as though this was Bowser’s final mockery, to watch him run through this death course and to be destroyed along with it. Suddenly,he saw it. A wall. And a pipe. Nearly automatically,he went through,a mere stumble or hesitance away from certain death.
The feeling of relief after couldn’t be understated. Mario fell to the ground to catch his breath,his heart beating sporadically. He had done it.

I think the sonic one is scarier because imagine having this wall of fire somehow able to catch up to you despite being a creature running at nearly 370 meters a second

People will still argue that DS is better (maybe) and you'll get the random Super Luigi U fan here and there but Wonder feels like an entirely different beast compared to any of the New games

If this was a real Mario bros Wii. Level then I think it would take place AFTER the final boss
world 9? nah this is the EXTRA secret world 10 that nobody mentions, you can only unlock it by getting 100% game completion 10 times in a row without a single slip up, you'll start noticing differences around the 8th time, and then the 9th time the levels completely change and the final time a king bill will fly over head in each level somewhere at some point as foreshadowing of what's to come, upon gathering the final star coins and getting the notification that you've done everything the game has to offer for the 10th time that notification will immediately close out and a new one will come in it's place saying "just kidding!" and world 10 will appear on the map selection screen, and will be the only selectable map, this is a "no turning back" situation, you can unlock all the other maps again by defeating a secret final boss, however no one has ever made it to this secret final boss as the castle leading to it is impossible even for a tas to get through, and all 3 save files get corrupt to automatically load world 10 even after erasing and starting a new one, legends say upon defeating the true final boss world 10 will explode and all 9 levels from there will fall to each other world with a brand new challenge in each one, in destroyed and corrupt versions of the original first levels of each world

God! This looked stressful! This is the level of stress I feel playing practically all Sonic games because of the needed reaction speed I just can’t seem to develop.
I don’t have the needed reaction speed either. I compensate through repetition because my muscle memory is faster than my reaction. It’s the same when I’d practice piano, learning a song chord by chord, note by note, one measure at a time, instead of being good at sight-reading or improvising.
At least computers sometimes slow when they get old, allowing people like you and I an accommodation.
Imagine a Mario level where you’re making your way up vertically the building you’re inside is crumbling beneath you. That would be cool I think.

i love how sonic is guaranteed to escape because hes stronger and faster than mario but when mario has to do it the stakes are actually high

That level sucks, lol my brother and I hate it
We almost never needed to use a power up before, but for *that* level we used a boatload of power-ups and lives to 3-star coin that level and didn’t feel guilty about it 😂
I had to resort to completing the level 4 times, first time with no coins to (finally) see the rest of the actual level, and the other times getting each coin individually
And it still was hell
When you beat a little Timmy Level in Mario Maker:
