I’ve been watching Nick for the past few years and I never get tired of his fishing adventures, he’s so genuine in his videos and whenever he doesn’t do good, he’s always upbeat about it, thanks Nick for another fishing adventure!!!!!
Thanks for putting videos out like this because it makes me feel better that others go out and only get a single fish some days too. Keep it real man :)
Nick you made me lol with your know what’s better than not catching fish? Not catching fish while near a fire! Awesome video. Even though fishing wasn’t on your side the fire segment of the video was very cool :)! Next time bring some hot dogs or marshmallows and have the best fishing video of all time :)! Have a great and safe weekend dude and take care! See you next adventure dude!
Great video Nick, doesn't matter if you get skunked or if you are catching fish one right after the other. You are the reason I watch and I am sure a lot of people feel the same way.
Nick never fails to entertain, his episodes are masterpieces. The production, music, content are always great. Anyone who watches 618 Fishing always feel better after watching.
I’ve been following your channel for over a year now. One of the things I enjoy most is that you show your bad days as well as your good days. That’s real fishing. Keep up the good work. If you’re ever in Virginia I’d be glad to take you fishing.
Tough day. Glad you got the skunk off the board with that awesome looking gar. Next week, I'm hitting a spillway near where I live. I watched a bunch of RUclips videos of people slaying the stripers there. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the vid, Nick 👍
Interesting. My Dad built one somewhere around 15 years ago Much , much stronger for Salmon fishing. Heres my two cents. Some pure problems because of physics. First. there is a ton of slack line to the trigger. In order for any tension to be applied to the hook, the rod has to move enough to use up that line. The trigger need to be as close to the line between the reel and the first eye to eliminate as much slack as possible. Two, the rod has flex before it starts to apply any real pressure to the hook, so again, more movement before pressure is applied. The tip is likely traveling multiple feet before it gets tension. Third, the max load of the spring is when the rod is locked and loaded. as soon as the trigger is tripped the spring loses force applied to the rod.So as the slack is being taken up, force is depleting rapidly. Fourth, the line has to be straight out from the rod, if its off to either side it loses travel from the rod tip and again, lose force applied to the hook. The rod is basically a lever, so if it takes ten lbs of force at the reel seat to set the spring, when you get to the end of an 8 foot rod you are left with about 1.2 lbs of force. You should do a video with hand a held scale. set the rod up and attach the line to the scale and trip it, you will be amazed at how little tension is actually on the line. Pretty sure this thing is not capable of actually "Setting" a hook. It can provide some advantage in keeping the line tighter, until you can pick it up.
The hook setter might work well in the summer, but not for fish stiff in the cold water. And they should work well with aggressive feeders that take the entire bait in one mouth full, but not for more careful feeders that want to taste the bait first.
Your videos are more entertaining with only 1 fish, than most of the other fishing channels videos with tens of fish per video...Nice composition, transitions, storyline, great shots, nice mood, well chosen fishing spots, everything. I am following your channel for about 3-4 years now and I don't think I missed any spillway video :)) I started watching about 10 fishing channels from US, now I'm down to 1....yours :)) Great Job! Keep it up! (greetings from Romania)
@@440-fishermandrock8 i watched in the past, 1 rod 1 reel, Jon B, AP Bassin, Lake Fork Guy, Lunkers, Flair, Some salt water fishing channels, ty pig patrol, and several other channels...but not anymore :-D
I have some of those fishing rod trigger things just like that… I polished the trigger on mine (it took quite a pit of pressure to trip it) to make it much much more sensitive for the smaller bites…. But you have about as much luck as I do with them… bite after bite but no sets
I agree, the last 2 years I've really got back into it. Mainly because of my boys but still. It was like 20+ years since the last time i fished. So I'm enjoying it alot now that I can take my boys.
On a diff channel, they set up the auto-setters by stabbing into the ground with spike towards the water at a steep angle, such that the rod is pointing more up than forward when set, then pointing backwards into shore when triggered, in order to get better hookset tension and continued resistance.
That Spotted Gar is an awesome looking fish, shame nothing else was biting . That’s fishing for you . Still another adventure wrapped up Nick . At least the fire kept you warm . Thanks for sharing.
Very cool spotted gar. I've set a goal for myself this year to catch at least 5 new species of fish (I've only caught 7 different species before this year). So far I have managed to catch a rainbow trout, which was awesome, but I think it would be really cool to catch a gar of some sort this year. I've learned a lot from watching your videos. Hopefully I manage to complete my goal this year.
5:01 I watch every week because you go almost every week. You energy is awesome and your editing is entertaining. There are never certainties in fishing but you get out there and I appreciate the effort and the gar catches. If you don’t go you really don’t catch anything. Stay safe and warm. Mike Pachuilo, Houston.
Great video Nick. 🙌 I hope fishing goes better next time. 👌🏽 Here in Argentina, we are on 9° heat wave... So no fishing for me. :( I'm still waiting... 😅
A bad day fishing with Nick is a heck of allot better day then a bad day fishing by your self and catching nothing and still paying for bait, lost tackle, freezing weather and all that driving! Cause you make it a pleasurable adventure no matter what!!! 🎉 Thanks Nick!!
Great video. Although you only caught one fish all day, it was a pretty cool one [I rarely see gar up here so I'd be elated]. This late winter time of year is usually depressing but something about the fun of having a fire and fishing a quiet stream seems to make it all okay.
Those Pflueger president reels are great budget reels at around 60ish bucks. I own 5 of them in various sizes and they hold up for year and years of service if taken care of. Highly recommend anyone who needs a good budget spinning reel to check those things out.
I've been using my hook set device for almost a year. I find it very helpful when fishing with multiple poles. Great videos as usual. I do recommend adjusting to light setting to avoid ripping through the fish's mouth.
The fishing in America to the UK and terminology is so different, a pole to us is elasticated, with no reel an ya can only use 1 at a time! we use a rod n reel.
Hey Nick, I'm coming into the US for the first time ever on Sunday. I'm from New Zealand and love fishing, I'm so exited to experience fishing in another country! I'm 14 and watch all the videos let me know if I can tag along haha
So when you go to these spillways, are the fish there some that have went over the edge maybe during a high water event or are they coming from downstream and just hanging out at the dead end?
You win some you lose some that is why its called fishing, Not Catching lol regardless it was another great video Nick thank you for taking us along on your adventures brother Much Love Tight Lines #TroutBandits
just a small bit of advice for starting a fire when the sticks are damp or wet. Carry some cotton balls and some vaseline. Rub the vaseline into the cotton balls and use this to start your fire. It will burn for some time allowing the sticks to dry out enough to catch fire
Hi Nick I really love your videos big fan waiting for your next video. I live in Maine and there are a lot of good size fish to catch in the rivers of Maine maybe you can take a trip to Maine and make a video up here would be awesome to see what you catch
Hate to say it, but that's just an open water version of a jaw jacker. Those have been used for ice fishing for years. Same idea as this although setting it is a little different using the pole itself as the spring lever.
I love to know I'm not the only one who doesn't always catch a fish, sometimes it's just skill and hoping for the best. Even pros like you can't control the fish!
I have been binge watching your channel today. I noticed one thing you may want to try. Take your shades off at night. Not nearly as dark then. Lol. Good clean channel. Subbed

Brother that's why they call it fishing and not catching, anyone that hasn't been skunked when fishing, hasn't been fishing long

The hook setters are a miracle down here in Fl. I love using them when I am working the brackish channel near the Indian River.
And they are forbidden in Europe…
581k, congratulations, you have come soooo far in the last couple years, love the content!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heck yeah! New 618 episode's are the best notifications I get!!
Yo playin with fire is back! Love that song! Great video
Yea Nick's introduced me to some stuff I've never heard of. Added some more variety to my playlist.🤘
Absolutely no questioning the effort Nick puts into fishing and especially his videos. Thank you and Rock On Nick🤘😎
Videos are very professional. Thursday has become my favorite day. At least you caught 1, which is bigger than 0 and you had fun. Great day !!
I use those all the time fishing from the bank. In current it takes a few times to figure out the right spot for line on trigger!
Nice spotted garr, nice fire!
The hook setter might work well in the summer, but not for fish stiff in the cold water. And they should work well with aggressive feeders that take the entire bait in one mouth full, but not for more careful feeders that want to taste the bait first.

Thanks for taking me fishing today. I enjoyed it. Peace.
Hey man!! Great to see ya again Buddy 618!! 🐳🦈
That spring bite is right around the corner!!! I can't wait

Great video, loved the fire building. I've done that many times, nothing better.
Yo nick, I love fishing. Its addictive.

Thank you nick your amazing brother thank you for all your Al work I enjoy your cheapness alot. Have a good day bro.keep the line wet!
I love using the rod setters when catfishing , it also makes your hands free to grab a new beer or catch some bait fish with the little rod
On a diff channel, they set up the auto-setters by stabbing into the ground with spike towards the water at a steep angle, such that the rod is pointing more up than forward when set, then pointing backwards into shore when triggered, in order to get better hookset tension and continued resistance.
Missed you yesterday, so I watched today(friday) Went fishing 2 days ago. 5 hours and not one bite. Soon... Nice video Nick. Thanks.
Those automatic rod setter are cool. But only good to use on calm waters and smaller rods as 7ft or smaller. Caught some stripers on it lol
Great bass in the music and great music track too. Just to start out with Nick. =)
618 Bushcrafting!
great stuff Nick thanks
That was a pretty fish. You are almost ready to appear on a season of Alone with all your campfire building survival skills.
Love the vids man
Beautiful spotted gar! So glad you posted today, I don’t watch many fishing videos, but always look forward to yours.

Think you can use that hook setter for ice fishing
The ladyfish are great bait for tarpon here in FL, I hooked into one back in November that hit a small ladyfish I was reeling in.
Amazing video nick! Keep up the great work! #roadto1mil
Nice looking gar! That fire looked perfect for some hotdog and marshmallows.
Finally. 618 fishing junkie

I like those automatic fish rod holders... when they work. Sometimes they do set the hook too early though.
Wow, they reinvented the Yo-Yo. Unfortunately Texas wont allow any type of "Automatic" fishing.
