I was lucky. I saw them in 1983 at the old Birmingham Odeon. Me and my mate were 14 and one of the security guards came up to us and i thought he was going to kick us out. He brought himself down to our height, realised we couldn't see very well and took us right to the front of the stage 😂😂. The Cutter, Villiers Terrace, the Back of Love, awesome songs.
Oh, boy, The Church open a big door, too! Then you gotta start talking people like Beautiful South, Waterboys, and so many others that I think of in that vein.
I rec’d that too, and reptile. A lot of 80’s gothy music is like 00’s emo on that it has a poppy sound with darker lyrics, but my fav are the songs that have that dark or haunting feel to go ith the lyrics. Also Siouxie and the banshees have some great songs. The whole genre is a personal fav.
I love this song. Also love that when you first started reacting to music you would say in almost every video how you had never listened to any music like that before, and now you're dropping the name of the vocalist from Talk Talk like it's the most obvious comparison in the world. I don't mean this to sound patronising but I think you started all this to discover new/old music and broaden your horizons, and you've definitely come a long way since then!
Hah, yeah, I picked up on that too. I'm like, "I wouldn't have made that comparison, that's great!" Yeah, I like that you, Jay, seem to have a really good head for remembering a lot of specifics of what you're listening to -- it's not a schtick, and it shows.
Not patronizing at all. You're pointing out something I've been saying for months now. That JV just seems to have a head for music, and something like the musical equivalent to a photographic memory. That he can draw all these "obvious" comparisons between bands and songs. He's really turning into a musical expert, and fast. It's definitely fun to watch.
Great comment, and I agree 100%. Ever since JV started exploring songs outside his comfort zone, he's picked up on a lot. He's gaining a real appreciation for many different genres of music and it's fantastic to see.
I know its not FROM this band, but a band called The Psychedelic Furs....Heaven...Love My Way...The Ghost In You...and Heartbreak Beat...And glad you did this one. Hanvt heard it in awhile. Thnx man
Jay you're my fav reactionist. Some others don't react or get the songs you have an appreciation of all genres and are open to them. That's a great thing
Echo & The Bunnymen are one of my favorite 80's New Wave bands and they are a Rabbit hole! They have so many great songs like "The Cutter", "Lips Like Sugar", "Bring on the Dancing Horses" and "Never Stop". So glad you finally Reacted to them !...More ECHO please!
I am in awe not only that you reviewed this song, but that you referenced Mark Hollis!!! You are exposing yourself to such a diverse, incredible collection of music. I love that you described wanting to just escape and listen to this song. Absolutely what we used to do. Thank you for all you do! Xo
I love your reaction to the Killing Moon, you put a huge smile on my face. Thank you my good man! As you can imagine they are my favourite band and from my very own city. Love and peace to you mate.
I can't believe it. I've been on an EATB nostalgia trip for the last few days. Listening to the full albums "Crocodiles" and "Heaven Up Here" then got this recommended to me. Perfect timing! 😃👍
Heaven Up Here has one of the strongest album openings ever - Show of Strength, With a Hip and then Over the Wall. I bought it on vinyl back in the early 00's when it was like £3 to buy an old LP. I still dip back in some twenty years later.
I loved seeing this reaction. It's taken me on my own nostalgia trip. I miss post-punk and frankly rock of any kind. I miss real emotion in music. When you had no idea what the song was really about but it didn't matter because the lyrics were genius and the emotions were unmistakable.
Ahhh you found the 80s alternative music. ❤️❤️❤️ Best genre ever. I saw them live and they were awesome. If you ever get a chance to see them, you should go. You will not be disappointed.
I love those haunting 80s voices too! I feel so emotionally invested when They sing with that deep soul. 80s goth was my favorite style all through college. If you want more but with a female voice try the band Souxie and the Banshees.
A couple of bands that are also is this genre you might like are The Psychedelic Furs “Love My Way” and “The Ghost in You” and Love and Rockets “So Alive.”
Oh,I've been following your channel for quite some time, like, every now and then. But every time I get the chance to see your reactions, you make my day man! And with this one!!! Oooh, did you make my day!!! Thank you for doing what you do and sharing your amazing vibes!!👏👏👏
I met them in the mid 90’s at a record store, and they played that song with just the two of them on guitars. Will was hilarious and out going, and Ian was more shy. They later used it for when they got back together, but originally it was writer for their side project Electrafixion.
We were blessed in the 80s with these indie guitar bands.. the smiths, the cure, echo and the bunnymen. Great lyricists with descriptive lyrics. Try a bit of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions. Or The Waterboys
I remember buying this in 1983, I think( I feel so old). It's a song that goes under the radar when people talk about great songs from the 80's. A very underrated song and so pleased you loved it.
Cool, quirky soundscape with guitars, then the drums kick in!! Then that haunting timbre or tonality, the plaintive quality of his voice and singing...great performance, cool song.
You'd never expect that voice coming from him, either. He looks like a kid in this video, so young, and then that voice comes out and something isn't adding up.
I know you might not see this, but I had to just say, I was fascinated by your reaction to this song. The way you said his voice was haunting. And how you could get lost in this song. I think that's the reason I keep watching your channel. You're great.
One of my favorite songs. Good to see the younger generation appreciate the decades before their own (music-wise at least). I think J is genuine and for that you deserve my sub.
Love how genuine your love of music is. Makes me remember what I loved about these songs too. Also - I have to say I appreciate your thumbnails and the fact that you don’t have ridiculous over exaggerated expressions to promote your videos.
aww my teen years. echo and the bunny men, the cure, sisters of mercy, damned, depech mode, and souxie and the bansees. tis makes me happy. oh and the smiths how soon is now maybe try that one
I still have the mix tape my brother made me. He worked at record bar in the 80s and really had a lot of music knowledge. It was a tape of Echo and the Bunnymen and The Cure. I had no idea what I was listening to and now I’m so grateful. He also gave me a cut out of Mr. Roboto from Styx. It scared the hell out of me. (And yet I still kept it in my room).
On of the top 3 songs of this era and time; the other 2 are "How soon is now" by the Smiths and "Love will tear us apart" by Joy Division. My favorite Echo song is "My Kingdom". This is a GREAT BAND!
I love you reaction and I so glad you are finally listening to the Bunnymen ! They were the first band I saw live back in the mid 80's and they are still amazing ! Thank you to listen to a lot more of them, you won't be disappointed by this Liverpool band.
E & TB don't play around. Their lead is an Uber intellectual and teeters on the prophetic. Fate.... up against your Will. Through the thick and thin until you give yourself to him. Guard your soul always.
The Killing Moon is a timeless classic. Beautiful and haunting. 80's New Wave is 🔥💪 I would like to recommend another 80's gem - "Lie To Me" by Depeche Mode and also "Ceremony" by New Order. I absolutely 💖 those songs and could listen to them all day long. I loved your reaction to this masterpiece👍
Oh hell yeah! Lips like Sugar, Bring on the dancing horses, The Cutter.
Yessssssss. Pretty in Pink!!
@@pattricklewis Psychedelic Furs are a swanky choice too!
Yes and more yes!!
Yes Lips Like Sugar great tune!
Yes! Seven Seas, too!
Criminally underrated group. Was lucky enough to have caught them live a couple times in the 80's.
Me too.
I was lucky. I saw them in 1983 at the old Birmingham Odeon. Me and my mate were 14 and one of the security guards came up to us and i thought he was going to kick us out. I never got to see them in their heyday, but i have seen them twice since 2010. Amazing!
I saw them at the Mayfair in Newcastle in the late 80s which.is.no more now xx
They still tour and still sound great!
80s. Echo... The The, Talk Talk, XTC, The Smiths, New Order... many 80s band in the alternative genre
XTC too
80s alternative was the best. Don’t forget Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance
@@elegantirony78 XTC was so underrated in the US!
Might as well check out Joy Division whilst he's at it.
Ha just checked he's already listened to Love Will Tear Us Apart.
Saw them live in 1981 at a small club in Toronto.
"Under The Milky Way" - The Church is another similar song, and featured in the same movie, worth reacting to.

The Church, Metropolis, is one of my favorites
@@Comrade_mommy the church were more retro psychedelic ..not goth at all....

You are a lucky person to just be discovering the Bunnymen. May you enjoy many more.
Great band. My favorite song by them is "Bring On The Dancing Horses".
Yes, my favorite by them as well.
Mine too
YES.. but NOT the official video. One of the BEST songs with the worst videos.
@@juliefox1743 I agree. Also there's a
longer version of the song that's
even better than the radio edit one
they use for the video.

Most underrated bands along with XTC in music history
I like them, but MUSIC HISTORY? No, man.
I appreciate the sentiment but XTC unfortunately has to take first prize.
Beautiful song!! So great to see you immersed in it!!!! Oh, Sugar Lips!! That's a wonderful one, too!!!!

I am 48 and this is one of my favorite songs from my little junior high school heart beginnings into alternate music forays.
Check out their version of People are Strange from The Lost Boys soundtrack, excellent soundtrack BTW!
They also do a good cover of the Stones' "Paint It Black"
I'm 61..forgot this song but it lilted back into my mind. Very nice review :)
"Bring on the Dancing Horses ". That voice. I know. That voice!!
Hauntingly yet very calming song.
Oh wow, I was so shocked by how much you loved this. One of my favourite bands and so underappreciated.
Now try “The Cutter”, “Never Stop” and “Do It Clean”

One of my favourite bands growing up in the 80s.
Saw the Bunnymen live in 1984. What a great band. "The Killing Moon" still remains a stone-cold classic 37 years after its' original release.
One of the best songs ever written

Have you done Sisters of Mercy - "This Corrosion". You'll love that one too.
Love that song
J, you have to react to Sisters! Legendary band
He should try Marian, or Walk Away, or Emma instead. Better more powerful songs imo.
