- Here is a rough reconstruction of a deleted scene from Enchanted, featuring the cut title song with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. This edit features both the intro sung by Idina Menzel and James Marsden and a 2006 demo by composer Alan Menken. Footage and recordings were provided by an anonymous source.

The deletion of the song meant that Idina Menzel, most famous for her work on Broadway and later as Elsa in the Frozen series, no longer had any singing moments in the film. In a promotional interview, Idina explained, "Nancy wasn't written with any songs, honestly. Patrick's character and my character are the New York people, and we don't sing. It was never written that way, and I actually was really flattered to be hired as an actress."
Alan further explained, "Stephen was really pushing for concluding the film with a song sequence and something new, not just a little reprise moment. And we wrote a title song called 'Enchanted,' where Edward and Nancy first connect, and then it opens up into a montage. Really, on practical terms, it was just really extremely difficult that late in the game to deliver that kind of song." ("No Songs For Enchanted Star", Sci-Fi Wire, Cindy White.)
Though there seems to have been some plans to include the song on the film's DVD release, the song was once again cut and has never been officially released in the years since. Idina would later sing in the film's 2022 sequel, Disenchanted.

Awwww, love this! Wish they had kept that scene and this song in the film! Makes Edward more relatable!
Her line, "My whole life long", would have been a perfect transition into Ever After, that way the flow of the end credits is preserved while still giving Nancy and Edward their moment!

Wow, I thought Nancy wasn't supposed to have any songs at first because Idina said it was refreshing to be hired in a part where she didn't have to sing. Thanks for posting this. I hope that Jodi Benson's deleted scene from 'DisnEnchanted' will be uploaded someday too.

@@cosplaysbygus She was in the original movie where she played Robert's secretary, Sam. She was going to reprise her role in 'DisEnchanted', but her part was cut from the film.

@entertainer1987 Nancy didn't have any songs when Idina was cast, because the character is supposed to be the "opposite" of Giselle, in a way. But when they realized they had landed Idina Menzel for a musical, they felt it would be a wasted opportunity to not have her sing at least one song (which it was lol), so they tried to write something for her after she was cast. But it didn't fit with the film's pacing and Nancy's character by that point, so it was cut
There's a very old Stephen Schwartz interview where he talks about how Idina was supposed to sing "Ever Ever After" in character over the finale and credits. Disney decided to bring in Carrie Underwood for the pop star cred.
I'm very happy that this song finally came out, but on the other hand I understand why it was cut. Somehow it doesn't fit with the ending of the film. Ever Ever After on the other hand wraps up all the story arcs perfectly. And it sounds much superior to me. Of course, perhaps if we weren't listening to a demo but rather the final product it's possible that my opinion would be completely different. But what I feel now is that cutting this song was the right choice!

Idina was also supposed to sing Ever Ever After, according to Stephen Schwartz. He wrote it for her character but Disney decided to bring in Carrie Underwood for the pop star appeal. While it may have seemed like a waste of her talents at the time, I get what she's said about it being nice to be hired just for her acting for a change. I could see how some people watching would have heard her start to sing and think "oh that's why she's in this"
@@thethirdcrouch That's what I was going to say. Or they could do what they did with Jack-Jack's story in The Incredibles. Most of his development is in the short films that take place in the middle of each major film. That way, we still would get it, but it wouldn't distract from the plot of the main film.
I never knew this footage existed! I mean, I knew about how James and Idina were supposed to have a duet at the end of the film, but I didn't know they actually filmed it! Thank you for sharing this with us! I like how it makes Edward change his mind on what to sing about. It gives him a better perspective on what love is like.

Nancy did get her happy ending and that ending was beautiful but i do wish the song wasn't cut they deserved to have their songs since it's obvious they loved eachother. Wish it wasn't deleted they deserved they're song as well❤❤❤

Pulling this out of a thread bc everyone needs to know. Stephen Schwartz wrote Ever Ever After for Idina to sing, to finish her character arc! Disney decided to bring in Carrie Underwood for the pop star appeal. I'm guessing this duet was written after that but ultimately cut.

This is the first I've ever heard of this. James and Idina are great in this song. I'm surprised that Idina was supposed to sing in Enchanted, I thought she wasn't suppose to until in the sequel. From the comments, It sounds like that most people were aware of this cut title song for many years. Could someone explain the source about it?

Never knew this existed. I can see where it doesn't fit well in context with the flow of the movie at this point, but it's still better than literally anything from Disenchanted.

I alwayst thought them ending together was so forced. Like they just instantly fell in love? I know that is fairy tale trope, but the point of the movie is to subvert tropes. This scene improves that.
No wonder I had expected too much from the romantic subplot with Frozen. But the plot twist with Hans almost made a mess of the beautiful story of sisterhood Disney set out to do. And Idina is one of few big reasons my 20 year old self was anxious to see Frozen

It's interesting when you think about it the wicked Queen went there not to stop Edward from finding her not really she went there to get rid of the one person who had the power to really take the throne from her and it's not Edward it never was I think the truth is the person who left Giselle in the middle of the forest was somebody who took her way to prevent the queen from killing her... I think she's really Edward's sister and the queen was afraid that she has her own magic Giselle and Edward doesn't have magic he just has brute force and not very much intelligence and that's why he really needed somebody like Nancy she has intelligence and understanding and her Magic The Magic that she gains by taking that leap of faith add marrying this stranger who is pretty much in the same boat as she is who lost the person he thought he was in love with it's interesting because that's the point the magic works because she took that leap of faith and married him... She's the one who was meant for him all along... I think there needs to be a final enchanted where all the loose ends are tied up cuz there's some loose ends that are not tied up but that's okay they'll wait another 10 years and then that's how they'll probably tie them up.

A part of me wanted Giselle and Edward to be together. But in the end, I was a graceful loser as much as he was!

I'll be honest, they were FOOLS to not have Idina sing in the first film! I love their duet.
But, and this is my opinion, Ever Ever After was the perfect finish to the film. Enchanted as a song was nowhere near as catchy. If anything, they could have transitioned the duet in the hall into Ever After and had a lovely ending.
