Mick E Gee well to me they were 😆. Rudy Sarzo licking his bass , vandenburg crawling around on his knees it was all a bit much 🙄. Not a stupid comment just how I feel it was gay 🤮

Mick E Gee I remember first hearing when Coverdale replaced the entire band with that All-Star line up. They were great live, but the next album did nothing for me. It was at that point when I realized just how important John Sykes was to the group. He was the driving force behind the ‘87 album.
if i was in a band that had a line-up that featured john sykes, neil murray, and cozy powell, i'd be intent on ruling the world as that was a fucking band. nothing against vivian campbell and tommy aldridge but that was a really pop-metal line-up as i too don't enjoy seeing rudy sarzo licking his bass or humping or adrian vanderburg looking really girly.
I always thought that John Sykes was the greatest loss of whitesnake ever and I also thought that David,Sykes,Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge would be the greatest line up band ever, the only one close to Led Zeppelin.
That changing of the lineup kept Coverdale, and Sykes, from becoming household names, IMHO. He just didn’t have the writing contribution anymore. Sykes was Coverdale’s Jimmy Page. Dan Huff declined a spot, because he knew his limitations. Dan Huff!!! I’d love to see Jimmy Page and Fiona Apple do a track. I think they’d KILL it.
Keep in mind, Coverdale was in debt to the tune of millions of dollars. Sykes wasn't. David was betting everything on this album and would naturally be protective (possibly to the point of paranoia,) of all executive decisions. If he had even an inkling of Sykes talking to management behind his back, it might explain Sykes' firing, warranted or not.
I think honestly David knew he needed a good looking band to tour...it was hot at the time...the REASON I THINK why the God john sykes wasnt involved is because MAYBE ego..hard to get along with etc..this music buiz is cutthroat man just like any company
the 1987 line up was already together for a few years and the new line just existed so it is not far to compare them. vivian and adrian are just as good players as john sykes
Coverdale was an idiot to fire Sykes. Whitesnake has always been, and will always be David's band. The brand name is owned by Coverdale, the contract with EMI i guess is with him; and Sykes, no matter what he said at the time, could not "take over" the band literally. I do understand that Sykes got impatient with David's vocal chords problems, that in the end, after about an year, got solved. And Coverdale felt very insecure by John's presence on the band, but that, in my view, was also a bit of inexperience and imaturity of his part. David was very nahive and not much intelligent to send Sykes out, there was some kind of a chemistry between Sykes and Coverdale that cannot be duplicated. Something a bit similar to the chemistry between John Bon Jovi and Ritchie Sambora, but maybe a bit more intense, and very, very unique.

It's not even remotely surprising that classic rock radio never plays anything from Page's post-Zeppelin work. Classic rock radio stations have an established List of songs that they play, and The List has changed very, very little since the mid-1980's. The songs on The List get played over and over and over again, ad nauseum. They never play deep cuts from ANY albums, for any artist, or anything else outside The List. So, for example, from Physical Graffiti, the songs Trampled Under Foot, Houses of the Holy and Kashmir are on the List, so you will hear them on classic rock stations. But The Rover or The Wanton Song? They're both kickass songs that any classic rock listener would love, and they're every bit as great as the other three I listed, but have they ever been played on classic rock radio. Nope. Never. Because they're not on the list.

I totally agree, Adrian & Vivian did not sound good together playing the 1987 album LIVE. I have many bootlegs of that tour and the soloing was terrible and the guitars sounded very thin and weak. There is videos of Sykes playing “Bad Boys” LIVE with his newer solo band and the his guitar sound was just like the album, the solos were so close to the album, with added improvisation that sounded great. Also, to show how great he is, he sang the song too. Personally, from a guitar players view, I don’t think either Adrian or Vivian are very good at all.
