As someone with pretty severe social anxiety and fomo the thing that has actually helped me is planning group events myself. It's incredibly hard and taxing for me to do but I've found that creating a social event that I'd really like to do (like board game night) helps me feel more fulfilled and less anxious when I see other people are doing things without me. I get to say to myself "Yes, I'm not at the bar with my friends but that's not really my style anyway and i just got to have a great time with others playing games." It's not perfect and I still have tons of insecurities to work through but a big part of my insecurities is that people will think I'm a loser if I have nothing going on so at least this way my life feels more fulfilling even if I'm not invited to things. Granted, it majorily sucks having to plan things but I've also found a positive side effect: people have started invited me to more things to return the favor. So it's a win in my opinion.
@@valentinursu1747 I think it's more to do with 'PsyShow' being so cheeky. Cuz...cuz SciShow? And PsyShow? When you say 'em out loud? Gettit? Is funny? .... I lol'd, anyway.
A thing I've found really works for me is to say: New year, same me - only somewhat better. And don't be too harsh on yourself, especially if you're in a bad mental state! Monthly goals are a huge benefactor in actually reaching your long-term ones. And don't be so harsh on yourself if you didn't accomplish something. I didn't get to learn the French that I wanted this year but I know that I've worked really hard for my exams and master's degree. Context is everything and it's good to reflect. I've been doing bullet journaling for 4 years now and it works super for a very disorganised person like myself.
This will be my 3rd year using a bullet journal... As a very dispersed person with a really terrible memory it has helped me to track all kinds of stuff, from general data like house chores, series watched (I keep track of movies on letterboxd), books read, money spent; to specifics like kg of dog food purchased, money used on transportation, etc... It's super interesting analyzing all data at the end of the year.
If Star trek: Voyager is ever remade, I want Hank to be Doctor and Brit to be Captain Janeway. That is my implausible wish for 2020. For my actual goals, thanks for the vid!
Is it odd that my inspiration (or something like it) can be triggered by the idea of inspiration? Like as soon as the video switched to talking about it I started feeling that itch to work on my writing.
This is why I think the most epic of artists remain obscure and unknown for the entirety of their lives. Getting money causes you to taylor your art to the people giving you the money
A good head space is "The Zone," the existence where you are in a desired occupation and everything falls away but that. Another thing that I think helps me (I write, too) is to work on pieces necessary to the story and flesh them out. An architect can zero in on a part they know how it is going to end up. They can work on that. Creating a model doesn't preclude changing things around. In writing that happens all the time. But my motto is to get the ideas out and established so that partners - or you - can see how things fit together. You can't form the product if you don't have the raw materials out: the clay, the knit sample, the written chapter, the model, or whatever the final product is made from. So work on what you know and understand.
You all probably dont care but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my login password. I would love any tricks you can offer me.
I made a New Years resolution in 2020 to give up smoking and do some more walking. I did one of those to date, it wasn’t walking. I gave up smoking in early January so then COVID-19 happened causing us all to stay home. I have multiple sclerosis and I was using the walk to school as exercise but now couldn’t get out come March 23rd as the schools shut. Now in June 2021 I’m struggling with everything I do around the house and just walking to the toilet can be painful. I can’t wait for the world to sort out the pandemic and do the right thing for those who may not be as lucky as them. Be more considerate of others and get the vaccine please and let’s get back out freedom.
I think I've heard or read once that a better specificity for losing weight is not how much you'll lose, but the diet/food choices. Finding something that makes sense and is appealing enough, and then just gradually let metabolism do its job. Whereas wanting to lose some determinate amount of weight may lead to crazy diets and mixing up losing muscle mass or just dehydration with the adequate kind of weight loss.
Actually have none of those on my list, but only because I'd already started the "No-Diet" diet. Regardless, suspect these hacks are useful for other things as well!
Choose specific, quantifiable goals that challenge you just enough. Making a resolution as a habit increases success. A habit is better kept when accompanied by a cue. Putting a reminder on your phone works against that action becoming automatic habit. “piggybacking” an action onto a pre-existing habit increases the success of the new habit. Habits don’t necessarily form after 3 weeks. They happen when they happen and that varies for people. Occasional lapses of a habit don’t doom a habit. In short, to form a habit, pick a cue you encounter every day and every time you enter that context, do the thing. How to turn anxiety into excitement. Emotional reappraisal. Your emotions are a combo of your physiology & what you’re thinking. Changing what you think can change what you experience. How to overcome FOMO. Stop comparing yourself to others. Turn inward to reflect on your own motivations & happiness. e.g. Journalism, meditation. How to get inspired. Don’t pressure yourself. Get in a good head space. Do something else that’s related to the task at hand. Develop your skills. Work mastery is associated with inspiration.
I have ADHD and honestly if my phone didn't remind me to start leaving the house in the morning and to start winding down at night, those habits wouldn't have any ground whatsoever lmao
Hey! Great video! Just wanted to let you know we are still left to the wild if we don't develop proper connections to people. Houseless people (like myself) get completely separated from normal human interactions or even rejected from a sense of humanity, and can be left to literally starve and die.
none of the above, lol. I'm working on things but these aren't tied to new years. One thing I'm trying to tie to a pre-existing habit is to clean up a bit while I'm waiting for my tea to brew
Reapprasing responses reminds me of how i repress the thought of how time consuming and tooth-pulling and mentally draining a class is by just repressing that with the thought of how the class is supposed to be useful.
I never had any. They seemed like pointless drivel as opposed to true genuine change. But old age has made me think maybe I should claim having something "inspiring" or positive emotional blackmail worth mentioning whenever others asks instead of my usual "nothing". ...Like maybe "spend two minutes every day detrashing" or the like, and hope that makes others more self conscious about how they implement their new changes despite it being just a lie for me (in terms of that example being a resolution, I just "naturally" hate messes and people leaving trash around).
For psychological techniques to work they have to be believed. Telling people "hacks" is nothing but counter productive. we will know it is a trick and that knowledge will prevent it from working..
I checked zero of your 4 boxes. Honestly I just dont wanna go a day without showering or without doing a hundred pushups and situps. Skipping on the cardio isnt an option.
