  • This patio could have been the end of me, it almost caused me serious harm. But unfortunately, I only have myself to blame. After months of nagging by my wife to get the place cleaned up😂 , I relented after my near miss with slipping over on the patio in the night.
This green sludge was like ice, I only just managed to stay on my feet.
But never one to miss an opportunity, I decided to dedicate a bit more time to sorting out my own garden. Especially as it was almost Christmas. With the added benefit of keeping the Mrs happy and gaining some festive brownie points 😊
This is now going to be the first video of a series where I transform my own garden in to a haven for wildlife (including my children!).
Hope you enjoy the video, as always, thank you very much for watching.
    Martin The Garden Guy.

Nice to see the pros and cons of a domestic level appliance. I've found a pressure washer can do so many jobs quickly and thoroughly in outdoor spaces, definitely worth it.
    (women get nagged too! 😂).
It's a good example of why people's outdoor areas can get a bit neglected. Between work and family it can be difficult to slot in the time. Lovely job. 👍🏼

Haha, she only "nagged" me a bit 🤣 she probably would have done it herself, but she is really not keen on cold weather 😁
I agree, I love my pressure washer. Pretty handy and eco-friendly. I could do with a longer handle, though, as it kills my back! 😂

I follow each pressure cleaning with a cleaning product that I spray on and leave it for an hour and rinse it off. It continues cleaning all summer long and before the wet autumn starts I spray again and then rinse after the hour wait and the bad stuff can't a foot hold again. Looks great, the stone was the least hardest to do but makes it look great, well done.

Hey, I missed this one too! 😅 It's like finding money in your pants pocket you didn't know you had...and BEFORE they go into the washer! Joy joy! It's sounds like you are awfully busy to get to your own projects, but I SO look forward to your making raised beds in the greenhouse, especially. They are already so charming and I am so interested in how others set them up.
We never had one. But Momma & I set up grow light system in the shed and boy, we grew some cool stuff! Sadly, she needed the money and sold them, and with her gone this last year, it makes the shed so sad. Maybe I will get a new set up some day. But for now. I must repair, rejuvenate the Potager (I built it 25 years ago for her, with English Garden Pavers.) it's seen it's finer days...
What other projects do you have in mind for your lovely little garden? I saw where you spruced it up recently... The patio looks refreshed now that it's safe and washed. Well done! Blessings always. 💛🖤💛 Stacy

They say the cobblers kids are barefoot, the roofers home leaks, etc. I can relate. My hubby is a handyman. He is really good and makes a terrific living from word of mouth only. Problem is, when he comes home at night last thing he wants to do is home stuff. So I have a TP roll holder pulling out of the wall, molding around carpeting laying against the wall, not nailed in. Some of the projects are years old. “SIGH”

I love that saying, I've never heard it before. A viewer from Spain sent me another one "in the blacksmiths house, wooden knives" 😊 it sounds lovely when spoken in Spanish.
I'm sure your hubby does his best, my excuse is always saying I don't have time. But it's probably more inclination that I'm lacking. And energy 🤣 I'll get there in the end.
I've started a house "jobs list" and I'm going to do a few every weekend. Last job was something as simple as crimping the bath plug back on to the chain (something that's been broken since we move in) 😂 wow it was a nightmare trying to unplug the bath water.

Just to warn you, i have a similar rig it for the large concrete area i picked up an inexpensive 39cm fsc and an extension with glfan tips. Now I'd ltessure jet the cat it it would stay still long enough
Great job tho, and congrats on in the family extension. Its been a few years but thats a lot of juggling 😊

Haha, cheers mate. Yeah, it's definitely hectic 🤣 but awesome at the same time. Still can't wait for them to move out, though 😂 only another 18 years to go.
How did you find the surface cleaner? Did it work ok with the Karcher?

      @@martinthegardenguy my youngest just turned 21. It's been a fun ride 😁
The brand I have is Greenworks (in the US) but they have standardized fittings, so the extensions and fan tips all work too
My surfaces are all concrete and it makes a huge difference vs a turbo, particularly it's faster and doesn't draw lines everywhere. Doesn't really need bleach either.
Side note, 27cm not 39. It's.about 1/2 the diameter of what guys like Partridge run, but it's about half the PSI too.

21? Well done sir 👍 still at home or moved out? They say 21 is the new 18 😂 it'll be 26 by the time mine are older.
Thanks for the info on the pressure washer, it's was very helpful. It's not something I know a great deal about.
      Cheers
      Martin.

Looking at those trellis Vs along the wall, is there anything planted to grow up them? If not, you could have large pots and have scarlette runner beans and a cucumber zooming up. I believe the cucumber would need slings/hammocks for support as their weight increases (I think old tights can be used). Or you could hang herbs in pots off the horizontal wood. It would be great to teach your children to plant, grow, harvest and eat food. Plus garden beds means less lawn to water and mow. I look forward to seeing what you do for your family. Happy 2024 😊.

Happy New Year, Catherine 🎉 😊
Great ideas, as always 👍 the V trellis both have clematis growing up them. Or at least when they grow again. I only put them in last year, so hopefully they'll take off a bit more now the roots are well established.
I normally grow my cucumbers in the greenhouse along with tomatoes. Both of which the kids won't leave alone. Last year, they were virtually eating breakfast in the greenhouse 🤣
I'll be doing a few nore videos in the garden, it'll be nice to show you what's going on as I'm sure you'll have some great suggestions.
We seem to be on the same wavelength 😅
      All the best

Ha ha, I know what you mean by "My partner asked me to do something about it, and I finally did it after I slipped." (paraphrased)
The brakes on my car needed work, and my partner told me he would fix them. That he didn't want me to spend the money on a mechanic. After me nagging him for 3 years, he drove the car and almost got into an accident. The next weekend he fixed the brakes. 😊 But I'm also like this. I'd rather take care of other people's things than my own. That's life, I guess...

Haha, yes, indeed. The irony of this wasn't lost on my wife either 😂
I'm glad the breaks on your car finally got fixed! 😁 but my patio needs washing again already. This time I'm going to do it for brownie points before she asks me to do it 👍😁

How could tiles become that green in only two years? I was worried about your back hunching over for so long. Can you get an extension for the wand?

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  8 месяцев назад

Honestly it wasn't even green at all last year, just a normal level of dirt for a patio. So it's happened in less than a year 🤯
I think whats happened is a combination of more wet weather, which causes my dog to wee on the patio instead of the grass 🤣 it's a bit gross, but I think the extra nitrogen has cased it to go green.
I mite be wrong though. 😅

    • @martinthegardenguy

They need raising to the level of the main patio, so I'll need to relay them first. Then I'll give em a wash 👍

      Hi 👋
There are two different attachments. One that you'd probably use to wash a car with, and the other for brickwork etc. It's called a turbo Lance and is far more powers.
If you're using one of these, it should come up quite nicely 🤞 what sort are you using?

Could you use vinegar to kill the green slime?

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  8 месяцев назад

Yeah, I think it works. I've never tried it on algae and moss to be fair.
I'm going to see how it goes, and see how quickly it comes back. It had been very very wet. So maybe it'll improve as the weather does....if it ever does! 🤣
      Great idea though. 👍

…where’s your bio- degradable fungicide spray to inhibit repeat moss growth on the patio???….😮

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  8 месяцев назад

I don't even use the bio degradable stuff, I always think of things like this (the algae and moss) as a symptom of a problem. As opposed to the actual problem.
On this patio, I think my dog has been doing her wee on the slabs. As she doesn't like wet grass 🤣 which is giving the algae load of nitrogen. And caused a explosion of growth.
Solution is for me to walk her more! 😅🤣
      Thank you for the comment.
      Much appreciated.
