  • This is an unboxing and review of the new Odin Mini by Olight. Here I test it out on my Daniel Defense MK18 and demonstrate the amount of flood / throw this light is capable of. I also discuss the what the light comes with including the pressure pad and MLOK mounting system (although I personally use the picatinny mount). This light was sent to me by Olight in exchange for an honest review.

That was horrible lol. I need to mess with it more to see what I can do to secure it. Maybe a different mount.

The park scene and path really showed the throw well. It was useful and helped me decide on the purchase compared to the dozens of other videos I viewed. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

The piece on the Romeo mount that holds the rail is on backwards (you also need to use blue locktite on the threads). If you are cross eye dominant and sometimes need to close your strong eye to get your weak eye to focus on the red dot then run the red dot all the way back possibly even behind the rear BUIS you’ll have a wider feild of view and it will be easier to force your weak eye to stay in charge. If you aren’t cross eye dominate and you feel its easy to shoot both eyes open then you might want to run the red dot at the front of the upper.
In terms of how you have the light mounted you should either use the vertical slot on the mount to get the light closer to rail or put the mount on the top rail just behind the front sight to get it closer to the rail. Depending on the diameter of your hand guard you might need to experiment with spinning the mount 180 degrees so the light can slide in and out without being obstructed by the front sight.
If you run the light on your support hand side you have a backup if the pressure pad ever fails in that you can pop it off and use your thumb to activate it. The front of the light should be even with or just behind your flash hider. When you have a long hand guard with just a bit of barrel sticking out I like to keep it even with the end of the hand guard to minimize the potential for things getting snagged.
If you run a weapon light on a rifle where it isn’t possible to get it out near the end of the gun then barrel shadow becomes a small issue and then its better to run the light on the strong hand side because with the rifle at a low ready the shadow is cast down below your feild of view as opposed to being cast up into it.
If you like your fingers you need a finger stop. I’d suggest the IWC Reversible Weapon Control Hand Stop - 1913 Picatinny or the Magpul XTM Hand Stop Kit. Also those rail covers are really nice. Once you have everything sorted get a couple more of then and chop them up and cover all the bits and pieces of exposed rail. And either zip tie the pressure pad cable down so or preferably use ranger bands (cut up bicycle inner tubes) to keep it in place.
BTW I appreciate you leaving in you red dot falling off. Getting things sorted out is a process and you showing that is more useful than all the slickly edited videos that people make to make themselves look cool.

The little piece that the Romeo 5 bolt screws into is backwards. It needs to be facing in and should look/fit flush on the inside and outside

Ordered mine(the Odin Mini bundle) when the Black Friday sale kicked off. Olight also took off an additional $5 for purchasing while logged into my customer account plus threw in another mini flashlight. Ended up paying $95.10! I wanted a SureFire but I’m an average guy with a family budget. I hate that I didn’t keep the one we were issued when I was in the Marine Corps(later found out we weren’t required to turn them back in).
