I like this Johnny. Aside from his bravado and his cockiness.... He's a compassionate dude.
three characters that they been working on greatly since mk 10 to upgrade has honestly been Johny, barraka and kiu lang.
Underneath the obsessive collector image, he's also a bit of a history buff. I mean he knew the clan history of the Sento down to when they lost the blade and went "extinct". That's a trait I would not of expected of old Johnny.

Liu Kang chose him for a reason. Just like how Raiden chose the OG Johnny.
I LOVE this version of Johnny. He has all the ego and bravado of the original, but just a touch of humility makes him a much more enjoyable character.

When Johnny had Kenshi give him his sword, I loved that the artists and writers got the details of how to hand a sword over correctly. That's a little detail that not many outside of the martial arts world would often know, but they put in the effort to get it right.
and also it made a difference. if cage didnt do that. I dont think they would had survived

@@skeletor4436 With two hands, sword grip in the left hand and edge facing you. It's a statement of trusting the honor of the other person not to strike you as they receive it with their right hand, which is commonly the sword arm.

I love how Kenshi thinks Johnny is taking his sword to make sure he can't fight, but he actually wanted to give him Sento to remind him that he still had so much to live for. Johnny knew that Kenshi was on the brink of despair, so he gave him the one thing that could restore his hope. And while he obviously didn't know that Sento would react to Kenshi like it did, he also believed that Kenshi could defend himself with it, in case things went south. The bond between those two characters really made the story so much more amazing!
I don't think he was on the brink of despair...he was ready to contribute...there's not much indication that he was giving up or depressed, just was wanting to look out for his team, not get them hurt or caught on account of him. He was constantly, since then, trying to contribute at every turn, which doesn't constitute despair. I do think you're dead on about how Johnny truly believed that Kenshi could defend himself even without knowing what Sento would do, no one but us watching could see that coming lol. Johnny gave Kenshi Sento out of pure gratitude for saving his life, he even says it. Johnny knew Kenshi needed and deserved it more and I think this speaks to both mens character arcs as before then Johnny was a selfish materialist, but Kenshi taught him in his own way to be selfless and focus on family and clan, brotherhood. Kenshi realized that Johnny wasn't as self centered as he had originally thought. And you are so right the bond is what really took this story mode to another level
@@rockkandyplay5692 Well, don’t forget that Kenshi kept telling everyone to leave him behind for a long time. He felt he was useless without his sight. He was still willing to help, yes, but I felt it was more out of desperation, to be useful rather than be viewed as a hindrance. Regardless, it is a great scene, and probably the best Mortal Kombat has ever delivered in terms of character development.
@@hunterofcomedy he only said he was useless once. and yes it's because he felt like a burden but outside of that he didn't show signs to me of depression or desperation. I suffer from depression and bipolar disorder and i didn't pick up any of those signs. I think he was in severe pain and shock, literally how anyone would respond to as traumatic a situation as he experienced, but he quickly recovered. Your point is quite interesting though, as I can see how you got to that conclusion, but i don't think that this is where the writers were going with this situation. He was asking questions, being involved, and literally just being a part of the group, even quipping with Johnny about sleeping in class with the monks, something a desperate depressed person wouldn't do generally. Put it this way, if he were truly suffering from depression, being given Sento wouldn't have necessarily automatically just broke him out of his depression, it doesn't work that way. But I digress. The dynamic between them developed amazingly and it was a joy to watch their character arcs. MK1 is incredible and i totally agree that this is the best that MK has done. The fact that we can kindly debate this speaks to the level of awesomeness and depth this game and franchise has given to its fans. Cheers
@@rockkandyplay5692 As a disabled person (although not blind) I saw many signs from him. Not anything you can call mental illness, perhaps, but he was clearly agonizing over it quite a lot. Asking for Baraka to keep talking, being afraid when his sword was asked. And even after Sento, is it just all fixed for him? Has he moved on, or pretends to not show weakness? I'm interested in the answers.

The soundtrack that plays the moment Johnny gives Kenshi Sento back has got to be one of, if not, the most beautiful soundtrack in MK history.
I shed a tear in that moment. The story was well written

Yeah, not too much has changed. Johnny is always at his core a decent person that's underneath glaring flaws and ego no matter what timeline.
Though he's arguably a lot less insufferable to deal with compared to his previous counterparts...Like especially MK11 Young Johnny. Like to his allies here he's annoying but not straight up want to punch him in the face annoying.
He was always a great person, but he hides it less in MK1. Instead, his bombastic personality exists concurrently with his good heart, instead of obscuring it. I like this change a lot.
Johnny being divorced early from this Chris woman maybe hinting a foreshadow that Johnny and Sonya will be permanently together and Johnny stop his Hollywood career to join the army to protect earth realm. That's my theories.
@@DevilPogoStickpart of that is because in the previous timelines Johnny has very similar events in his backstory (especially the fact that he was struggling as an actor) so by the time the tournament starts in the original Mortal Kombat and MK9, he’s trying to put up a front because he thinks he’ll be able to make a comeback in Hollywood. Little did he know what was in store for him.
From the robber to the best friend. This one of the best line storys in this game.

Baraka mentioned that the spirits from the living forest are good. Since this ermac was made from these spirits (and was only "evil" because Quan chi was controlling them) and sento's telekinesis powers came after kenshi stabbed ermac with it, I assume that the absorbed spirits gave sento that power willingly. It's wholesome to think that sento spirits consist now of kenshi's family + good outworld souls.
I also assume that the remaining spirits trapped inside ermac are willingly allowing jerrod to assume control, to be an avatar of these souls
Not under ermac's story cutscene it ain't
If you unlock Sindel's ending she explains how every soul in Ermac's body fight both her and Jarred for control. So they may be good, but Ermac by nature shouldn't exist thanks to Quan Chi, so now the souls are rather gone insane or panicked.
Ashra mentioned during an intro that some of the souls in Sento are Evil though I don't know the implications of it

I absolutely love the fact that even though everyone thinks she’s a clown and underestimates him, Johnny is actually one of the best of the best and on top of beating kenshi, he even beat sub-zero and scorpion

Lost to Kabal and Johnny Cage, solo Bi Han in a 2v1 twice. Lost to Hanzo twice. Lost to Kuai Liang twice. Lost to Kung Lao, Shujinko, Taven, Nightwolf, and the Briggs family. Bi Han is the biggest jobber in the mk franchise. Baraka has more Ws than him too.

in the OG time line Bi Han as defeated Hanzo twice once when he was Scorpion also in mythologies Sub zero (Bi Han) beat Fujin and Shinnok without needing elder god kryptonite. so you were wrong and got debunked

I really like what they did with Johnny this time. For the past three games (I only started playing in MK9) he never felt like an actor to me. He made references to his movies and other characters called him an actor but that was about it. In this game we get to see his house showing that he's a millionaire and we actually see him doing a little bit of acting, making it feel like he's an actual celebrity movie star. It's a really small improvement and I don't think anyone cares as much as I do, but it's something I really like
the fire alarms going off was a good touch.
Love the.... odd new bromance between Johnny and Kenshi. And I loved how in this timeline, Johnny 'gifts' the Sento to Kenshi which allows him to connect with his Taira ancestors. Nice new change to Kenshi's story and a good segway into a friendship between him and Johnny Cage. Loved how Johnny gives Kenshi his iconic red blindfold. Also loved the "secret" romance between Tanya and Mileena. That was a nice touch. Then throwing in that Syzoth and Ashura are a thing, yeah.... all these new relationships, connections, bonds and stuff threw me off.... but I like it!!
It seems kinda fitting here, regarding the gifting and the friendship between Johnny and Kenshi.
When Kenshi tried to steal Sento, his noble intentions were tainted by crooked means. So the sword eluded him and he failed to retrieve it.
Later, when he sacrificed for the sake of the man he tried to steal the sword from, losing his eyesight in the process of protecting him, he was given the sword as reward for his noble actions.
The blade he sought to lead his clan out of the grasp of the yakuza could only be obtained by honest means, not the crooked means his former masters would employ. And through them, he was able to fully leave them behind and reconnect with his past ancestors and lineage.
Cage wrapping red ribbon on Kenshi reminds me of in Street Fighter where Ken wrapped his red ribbon to seal Ryu’s wound. Friendship started with both.
Is anyone else surprised by the fact that Baraka of all characters actually helped Johnny and Kenshi
Baraka in this timeline isn't some a barbaric cabalistic warrior, instead he used to be a rich merchant who succumbed to the Tarkat disease. He used to have a family which he lost to the disease, so it makes sense that he's not without honor.

Mk11 Johnny was cool cause you see how far he's come and matured but I LOVE this version of Johnny. While he still has his personality he knows when things are serious, doesnt fool around and is a loyal friend with a code of honor, giving Sento to Kenshi when he saved his life. I like this new Johnny. A well made character. He still has what makes him Johnny cage but has a good side
I am just now starting to watch the story mode of MK1 and I gotta say, as crazy as it sounds, this scene actually had me shedding tears. I even knew at some point that Johnny was probably going to give Kenshi the Sento, but it didn't hit any less hard. Such a unique interaction between two characters we never thought would interact with each other that much if at all. It didn't take away from Johnny's classic personality, but man, it showed he can be a great brother when he wants to be.
So fun fact…..the guy who did the motion capture for kenshi in this game is a guy named Noah fleder, he’s appeared on a channel called gamology and he was approached by neatherrelm studios because he recreated ALOT of the mk11 moves and also reacted to the mk11 cutscenes

I just love how kenshi showed up at some hollywood bozo house to reclaim his family sword, thinking it be easy-going, just to get his shit rocked and lose. You hate to see his first fight being a lose

It served a purpose. He walked in thinking Johnny was just some washed up Hollywood star who had the sword because he thought it was cool. He came to find out Johnny was a good fighter who knew the written history of his clan. He got humbled
It's funny how Kenshi to this point got his telekinesis power in three different way. In blind snow movie it's essentially sento's power which can be mastered via training.
Kenshi's power in Previous timeline and new timeline are in way similar. In previous timeline he learned telekinesis from ermac after he freed him from the control of shao khan, in this one he got it by absorbing the energy from him.
It makes wonder if sento can absob the energy of other magic users like scorpion or sub zero or Raiden and gain there powers as well?

I think it's only in the cutscenes. When you fight with him he's pretty goofy and happy with his ball crusher, taunts, and crowd cheering him on.
they just decide time skip the details during the training arc since we dont want to see details jhonny go through the reality check again between movies and reality of how mortal kombat exist and not just a film since we have saw it billion times of jhonny incarnations from previous mk games not taking the situations seriously or getting used to it yet

so rather than just pushing him all the way back from square 50 to square 1 they put him in square 30 instead
and an inlore explanation is because Liu kang was in charge of this universe and he made johnny slightly more mature at the start

For those curious, the sword Kenshi is using before he gets Sento seems to be Tsugaru. Its the only sword he has with that symbol on it.
It's awesome that Kenshi and Johnny became good friends. Hell, Smoke in their interactions seems like he's joined in their outings.
Johnny and kenshi two of my top five characters since i was a kid glad to see this friendship
Fun fact. When Johnny's wife complained about all the stuff he bought. She mentions 3 things. The Vase/Hitchule. The drone. & Sento.
All which are used in the story.
The vase, after it gets broken, he starts to actually fight and clear his mind.
Sento restored kenshi's vision.
And the drone is used near the last chapters to see Shang tsung's army and plans with the gate.

I was close to tears when Johnny gave Sento to Kenshi. Such an emotional moment.

Everyone think Johnny Cage is a douche bag. Yes, he jokes a lot but the guy has a heart of gold. Probably the biggest one out of all the characters. I was one over with Johnny in MK 11 when he told Raiden you don’t have a family lose. (him and Fujin being basically gods) He loved Cassie and Sonya with all his heart. Sonya risked her life for nothing blowing up the cathedral and Kronika turned right around and rebuilt it.

I''m really happy that Kenshii Takahashi and Johnny Cage became friends and Johnny also gave Kenshi''s Sentos sword back to Kenshi, although Kenshi first has to save Johnny''s skin from Mileena as a result of which Kenshi himself loses his sight as a result of the attack.
This johnny is the perfect marriage of 9's douchebag and X's surprisingly wise and caring man.
So why did Liu Kang use the doorbell when he can just appear out of a portal?

I was commenting on another post and had a thought. what if the souls that were used to power the rock army were the same souls that were powering Sento. They all came from the living forest, even the souls syphoned from Ermac. If that's correct then that would make Sento one of the most powerful objects in the game, and Kenshi one of the most powerful characters in the game, as he's the one who's been chosen to wield it, they called him by name. This would mean he had the same power as an entire army, his ancestors, and Ermac at his fingertips. The same power Bi-Han betrayed the Lin Quay to possess. And this is just the beginning of the story.
They are not the same souls, but they function in similar ways. Basically souls function as an energy source in the MK universe. With that being said different objects require more/less souls. As far as where he ranks power level wise(as in consistent as the MK universe is) He’s up there(at least he was in the old timelines) but, he cannot take on the dragon army alone
