It is a joke so many people that aren't near Rock n Roll got in it, HOW THE HELL DID KISS GET IN JUST LAST YEAR? Weird Al should be in it if Hal and Oates can be
this man doesn't get the respect he deserves. people think that because he parodies songs that he's more or less a joke. he's one of the most brilliant and talented artists we have today, and he seems like such a humble and kind person, too. how the hell can i take part in getting him into the hall of fame
his band constantly amazes me with their ability to play any genre and have a sound so close to the original version when they do a parody; I think the point that impresses me most is the way his drummer can do such a spot-on Dave Grohl for Smells Like Nirvana...
They bump up the tempo just a bit for it to not actually be a musical cover. Like if the beat for the original song is 110bpm they’ll play at 115. I always heard it had something to do with copyright law but I’m not sure if that’s true.
Met him about 20 years ago after a gig i was playing with my band up here in Montreal, Canada.. A mutual friend from my home town was friends with him, and she had come to my gig and brought him along after his gig.. Funny as hell and such a genuine, down to earth , all around nice guy.. He had us all in stitches with his insane humor..Great guy !
Apparently my college health teacher worked with Weird Al at Cal Poly's radio station back in the day. Said he was a really cool and genuinely nice guy.
I read Al was one of the first to embrace youtube as a medium for getting his music out. And he's realizing that making a whole album is not the way to go with Spotify and everything. He just needs to make sure his "singles" are hits.
The 1st album I bought with my own money was "Weird Al In 3D", I was 4 years old and the song "Nature Trail To Hell" scared the shit out of me for some reason. We went to a Pumpkin Walk in a big park that Halloween and there was a sign at the beginning of the path that said "Nature Trail", I would not take another step because I thought it would lead me to hell. Completely true, yet embarrassing story.
1] Monkees & Al each/both belong in the Rock Hall as much as (if not more than) many other artists who are in. 2] Monkee Micky Dolenz & Al (among others) both went to architecture-specific classes/schools before their musical careers took off.
I remember people before Weird Al..They made songs parody mix of movies\songs. As in Jaws.. Wouldn't you give your hand to a friend. Think of me as your Friend. As they played the theme to Jaws..
I feel like Weird Al albums are these time capsules across the entire history of popular music since video killed the radio star. There will never be a time when a new Weird Album will not be called for :)
Al's more polite than I would have been with the telegraph response. I would've replied with, "Dude, get your head out of your ass. The world doesn't revolve around you."
Mr. Yankovic, thank you for confirming that the Wikipedia article on you is generally true. I suspect your fan base does their best to ensure that the article is factual. After listening to this interview and reading the Wikipedia article, I realized that I have more in common with you than I had thought. I was also a member of the National Forensic League in high school in from 1971 through 1973. I hope that you will eventually make it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I consider you one of the luminaries of song parody standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Spike Jones, Allan Sherman, Peter Schickele, Ray Stevens and Victor Borge. You are leading an IMDb (Internet Movie Database) poll with 69% of the votes. Favorite Composer of Music Parody www.imdb.com/poll/DHeJo9-Yvds/
it's funny now watching the question about prince how now that sadly prince is gone. AL zinged him back. i love it and i also love that i am learned a-lot about one of my fav artists
So I just looked it up. Looks like diffuser and loudwire are both owned by "townsquare media, inc." so technically I guess it wouldn't be stolen but it still kind of is. Idk. Business ethics are weird and confusing lol
Weird Al has some fine looking women also. Saw him at Ralph's in Encino with what looked like a super-model on his arm. The dude was wearing a bright red and pink Hawaiian shirt also. Priceless.
You belong in the rock hall of fame, no doubt you have deffently contributed to music. Hell if i was an artist with a number one id love that fact you took the time to make a parody of it becuse its only going to give that song more exposure.
I just started binge watching all those videos, and was surprised when RUclips recommended this and it wasnt Loudwire. I like the back and forth with the interviewer more.
When you're a fan of someone, you know things about them. I knew a lot of these things, too. I don't find it so unusual. After all, it's not like this one video is the only way anyone can know these things, especially when the video points out that all of this is available on wikipedia.
Makes sense when he's talking about singles and albums. he needs to be topical. Its like south park. making for of something that happened 6 months ago doesn't really work well.
some of his better songs are not hit radio singles yet just gems you'll find listening to his LPs which makes me bummed that he's going to the EP/Single route which is pretty much an industrial must nowadays for certain artist.
The Prince part doesn't surprise me at all. If you ever want to hear a crazy story about Prince, that isn't from Dave Chappelle, look up Kevin Smith's story about how he filmed a documentary about Prince.
Al deserves to be in the Rock Hall of Fame.
The Rock Hall of Fame is a fucking joke.
It is a joke so many people that aren't near Rock n Roll got in it, HOW THE HELL DID KISS GET IN JUST LAST YEAR? Weird Al should be in it if Hal and Oates can be
***** well, he is being inducted to the comedy music hall of fame... its not the same thing but im still proud of him!
BostonSports Run-DMC got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Daisy Way For an induction into something that doesn't exist?!
He definitely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He's lasted longer then a lot of the artists he's parodied.
this man doesn't get the respect he deserves. people think that because he parodies songs that he's more or less a joke. he's one of the most brilliant and talented artists we have today, and he seems like such a humble and kind person, too. how the hell can i take part in getting him into the hall of fame
If you go to college humor he is the the comedy music hall of fame
GOD IS DEAD Amen!!
dylan gautreau Fuck College Humor.. they're not even funny. They are only funny to drunk 12 year olds on crack.
+GOD IS DEAD
One has to be mad genius as AL
to even Dare To Be Stupid...
(Weird Al fan since 1980...).
BTW, your comment has 27 likes ;-)
Now he is getting in the Hall of Fame!
Weird Al has aged incredibly well.
+Thirios That's what happens when you don't drink or do drugs.
Al ages backwards. I went to one of his concerts recently and he looked half his age.
Probably because Al didn't do drugs, or enough of them.
My sister and I said the same thing when we went to his Concert here in Milwaukee.
I still think Al needs to re grow the 'stache.
Al was smart enough to surround himself with, as he said here, very talented people. Jim, Steve, and Bermuda never get enough credit!
Don't forget Ruben, the new guy, who's been with him almost 33 years.
When asked about his degree in Architecture, he mentions all the "tangents" his life could have taken... KING of puns :D
Thank god I wasn't the only person who caught that XD
I caught that too. The man is a genius
I wish he had said "I wonder what my life might have *built* into"
+neo012410 - I expect that he actually is, by definition, a genius. I'm sure his IQ is above 140.
@@pun-isher1501 I legit wonder what type of structures such a funny guy could come up with. Probably some Frank Gherry level stuff.
his band constantly amazes me with their ability to play any genre and have a sound so close to the original version when they do a parody; I think the point that impresses me most is the way his drummer can do such a spot-on Dave Grohl for Smells Like Nirvana...

Both his parents died in their home from carbon monoxide poisoning.
I give him credit to continue a life of comedy after such tragety.
+bradlbe He actually still performed the same night he found out...
This guy deserves all the awards
He's a christian so in a way he believes his parents are in a better place, though yes it's sad when people close to you die.
Walt Disney's mom and dad got carbon monoxide poisoning from the house Walt bought for them. Dad lived, but his mom died.
I saw him live on that tour. He puts on a hell of a show
I'm glad he mentions it here, but man, his band doesn't get talked about enough.
If I ever see Prince I'm gonna eyeball him constantly.
+Michael Steven Martin Sorry you won't. :(
KentuckyWallChicken Maybe at the funeral?
Hee hee so glad that Weird Al sent a reply to that telegram!! That sounds like Weird....
@@lucygirl4926 His reply is factual too. You can't make eye contact with someone that isn't looking at you.
r/agedlikemilk
he's been a lifetime mainstay. 40 years. love this guy.
I want to see a tribute concert where the artists he covered do his covers.
Hella good idea lol
I want to take all his original songs and parody them with serious lyrics. I will call myself Normal Alfred.
In truth, that would be AMAZING.
Met him about 20 years ago after a gig i was playing with my band up here in Montreal, Canada.. A mutual friend from my home town was friends with him, and she had come to my gig and brought him along after his gig.. Funny as hell and such a genuine, down to earth , all around nice guy.. Al's band really is extremely talented, they deserve more recognition as well
Little disappointed there wasn''t more fiction for him to disprove.
Al deserves to be in the Accordion Hall of Fame!
this dude is chill as fuck
Hes weird al, any day he doesn't smile is a day I don't want to live.
ikr!
You know you've made it in the music industry if weird al calls u up and wants to parody one of your songs
I read Al was one of the first to embrace youtube as a medium for getting his music out. And he's realizing that making a whole album is not the way to go with Spotify and everything. He just needs to make sure his "singles" are hits.
He began by submitting tapes to the Doctor Demento radio program.
Awww...your story makes me want to reach into the past and give your 4-year-old self a comforting hug. 🤗
1] Monkees & Al each/both belong in the Rock Hall as much as (if not more than) many other artists who are in.
2] Monkee Micky Dolenz & Al (among others) both went to architecture-specific classes/schools before their musical careers took off.
I remember when he was on Dr Demento show
Pretty much telling your age 😂
Genuinely cool and talented guy. Needs more recognition!
al seems like such a nice and friendly guy! I'd love to meet him
I got to see him in concert in Glasgow! My life is now complete!!
I saw him in concert as well. It's so heavenly.
Yep. I think it's safe to say that was one of the best experiences in my entire life.
+sebYB67 I saw him last time he came to St. Louis!
Coincidentally the Gay Pride Parade was the exact same day.
Weird Al is a fricking genius.
To Prince:
"please dont make eye contact with my ass"
Steven Wilkins You got eyes on your ass, boy?
Al's more polite than I would have been with the telegraph response. I would've replied with, "Dude, get your head out of your ass. The world doesn't revolve around you."

Favorite Composer of Music Parody
www.imdb.com/poll/DHeJo9-Yvds/
He has 400+ votes
Others have barely 30
That whole thing about Princess and No eye contact from his sitting neighbors kills me.
5:13 backwards masking in "Nature Trail To Hell" and "I Remember Larry"
Ok but he’s actually such a wholesome guy
Al needs to make a parody of bob marly's jammin and callit ramen
Why not have a real person interviewing?
Weird Al is the best! Because he eats all vegetables!
He seems pretty nice.
it's funny now watching the question about prince how now that sadly prince is gone. AL zinged him back. i love it and i also love that i am learned a-lot about one of my fav artists
When Al gets (what passes for) angry, he and Eric Idle sound the same. Anyone else notice that?
He reminds me in a way of Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden
SEEN HIM TWICE,THIS HUY IS VERY SMART!
So is diffuser part of loudwire or did they literally steal this concept?
I suspect the latter.
I was gonna ask the same. Probably why it doesn't even have 200k views over the span of 6 years.
So I just looked it up. Looks like diffuser and loudwire are both owned by "townsquare media, inc." so technically I guess it wouldn't be stolen but it still kind of is. Idk. Business ethics are weird and confusing lol
Did anyone ever call him AMY?
Isn't it funny how Weird Al and Fabio Lione look a whole lot like each other and they both also haven't aged a bit?
Al is like all the famous people that I love should be.
I love this guy, he always makes me smile.
And I´m straight.
Weird Al has some fine looking women also. Saw him at Ralph's in Encino with what looked like a super-model on his arm. The dude was wearing a bright red and pink Hawaiian shirt also. Priceless.
Al's mom: "Oh, yes. Alfred would love to play the accordion."
Al: "Uhhhhh, no I don't.
Weird Al is awesome... enough said.
Yes I would like Weird AL parodies of the artists of today.
Look at how much expression he puts in his face just when speakijg casually
Why call this Wikipedia fact or fiction when all questions are fact lol
You belong in the rock hall of fame, no doubt you have deffently contributed to music. Hell if i was an artist with a number one id love that fact you took the time to make a parody of it becuse its only going to give that song more exposure.
They might have picked it because of Frankie Yankovic and his Yanks, he was an accordian player also. . .
He should definitely be in the HOF
No acknowledgment to LoudWire who started the Fact or Fiction idea?
I just started binge watching all those videos, and was surprised when RUclips recommended this and it wasnt Loudwire. I like the back and forth with the interviewer more.
it's all about the pentiums baby.
Sethemiah what kind of chip you got in there?....A dorito?
Cool guy.
Weird Al for President!
I would love to see a video like this with Alan jackson or George strait
4:50 Lol you guys cant tell Weird Al tracks from the originals? :o
I own "UHF" on VHS & genuinely cherish it...
- What's your favorite scene? Mine is the Rambo parody.
Is it unusual that I knew all of this? I have never seen this video before, but I knew all of those stories backwards and forwards...
When you're a fan of someone, you know things about them. I knew a lot of these things, too. I don't find it so unusual. After all, it's not like this one video is the only way anyone can know these things, especially when the video points out that all of this is available on wikipedia.
I know...me too! (Except I didn't know about the telegram from Prince....)
I voted for Weird Al to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this summer. At that time, he was in 11th place.
Why did you ask him all the questions that have citations?
Al will get in the rock hall someday.
If Weird Al gets in the RRHOF, so should Stan Freberg and Spike Jones.
lol @ "Snack All Night"
I can answer that one Alfred.
Accordion were used in folk music in the country your dad comes from.
It’s almost like someone read his autobiography and posted it to Wikipedia.
Love AL. U the man buddy ..
hahaha I love his sense of humor
Makes sense when he's talking about singles and albums. he needs to be topical. Its like south park. making for of something that happened 6 months ago doesn't really work well.
Has Prince ever commented on why his lawyers sent that telegram?
this is the nice side of loudwire
some of his better songs are not hit radio singles yet just gems you'll find listening to his LPs which makes me bummed that he's going to the EP/Single route which is pretty much an industrial must nowadays for certain artist.
Why are Maynard and Yankovic merging into one image in my mind?
Word. No albums, just singles or EPs. Nobody needs a huge album nowadays.... 3 or 4 songs is enough honestly.
I can’t hear the questions .
i kinda remember scream's ghostface whenever i see him. but i'm not trying to be rude, it's a compliment ^^
The Prince part doesn't surprise me at all. If you ever want to hear a crazy story about Prince, that isn't from Dave Chappelle, look up Kevin Smith's story about how he filmed a documentary about Prince.
Amish Parardise, and White and Nerdy make me laugh every single time
Idk about the rock hall of fame... But if there's ever a Polka hall of fame he would HAVE to be the president
If he does stop doing albums, I hope he does EPs and not singles so that they can be released on vinyl.
Question: Can anyone tell me the instrumental at 1:37? I would appreciate it and Thanks! :)
all that and a religious man as well.
Well, that sucks.
Prince being mean to Al, screw that guy, apparently he didn’t recognize a national treasure when he saw one.
The fact LL Cool J is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but Al isn't is a crime against humanity.
And that's not a knock on LL.
For a segment called "fact or fiction" these were all facts, so it wasn't fun
I could go for another Weird Al movie. Not so much a sequel to UHF, but another movie.
Guys great!
WEEEEEIRD ALLLL!!!!
Holy shit. I've listened to I Remember Larry a million times and I never noticed that....
why did you guys rip off loudwire?
Genius
This is a rip off of Loudwire.
Long live Weird Al!🥰🥰
