So love Key West!! My Man has renewed my interest in the Florida keys and key west. Went to Captain Tony’s saloon last week for Fantasy Fest sat right next to the tree in the bar not knowing the history enjoying a cold one. Looking forward to going back soon.
I like the schooner wharf bar and enjoy Michael Mccloud’s music. Captain Tony’s for sure is on the list with the museum. Very cool place to explore, after all, drinking all day gets expensive 🌴🍻🎣.
I lived in apt 3 over Top Florist on White St for years. 40 years ago ,when Mel Fisher and Jimmy Buffet lived there... not now with all the crowds and annoying tourists everywhere.
How I wish. They are called Iguana’s and are not native to the keys, but likely introduced many years ago by visitors from central and south America. They now have become large in number and easy to spot when in the keys.
Great place to visit, but it isn't what most would consider " family friendly ". Lots of history, and night life. Excellent eating if you talk to the locals. A number of excursions out for fishing or diving/ snorkeling. The locals aren't fond of the cruise ship port of call, so if that's you don't admit to being off the ship.
No place really is anymore. I think how expensive everything has become there may be its downfall. After Hurricane Irma, everything skyrocketed. No more off season. They are even building up Boca Chica (just before you get to KW). This is where a lot of the workers lived. And now they are being forced out. We used to drive down a couple times a year, but no more.
I do agree a lot of Key West is not family friendly, but when it comes to the ghost and gravestones guided tour, I do think that is something the family would enjoy. Sorry for the late reply, thanks for dropping in.
A very dark thing happened during the fantasy fest of 2003 , on Sat. Finnally ,when men ,1 in a theatrical clown costume, shoving others violently came up to spray a fluid from a spray bottle at me ., it hit a beautiful fitness type woman behind me She and her man also very fit died from this spray and others in the big hotel.wrre very sick , as was I ( they said I was dead ) a old man at the stock island RV park That intercepted me arriving wanting to talk , died others sick .this was a military type poison and the clown man was too
I've been living in key west for 6 years. There are a lot of aspects that tourists will never see, good and bad. Most things mentioned in this video are exclusively tourist sites.
@@bambirm27 the private island in the mooring field for one. It's authentic. All the free boats that are up for grabs, we fix them and sail them hard. The home made dock behind the grocery store where we meet up to shop and share a beer. The bars that give free drinks if you show them a kw drivers license. All kinds of things. Also where to avoid like Duval.
You are correct that prices are high, part due to the remoteness from mainland and part because it is a popular tourist spot so can demand more. As for people being rude, Some can be. But the tourists I met usually were nice

They have good fish dip and fried mozzarella sticks. Love the view of the boats too!!

Jimmy Buffett even wrote a song about captain Tony’s . White st. ( where captain tony’s is on) does draw the tourist crowd.

Key west hotels being too expensive I made Key Largo my choice with the fam at Ocean Pointe Suites and loved every minutes of our FL keys experience!
my favorite place in the keys is Marathon. wish I was there now

It's a great place, but gotten way more expensive.
Prices have risen considerably since Irma. We'll see how that works out for KW

It’s very crowded and can only take it a day or two. Prefer islamorada 🎣. I’d rather spend my longer stays on fort Myers beach 🏝
