    Nice hole with no gromit in the bottom of the board with the tails coming through 🤔

      Forget grommet lol ...needs a tails gland really for support and also no Discrimination (or selectivity) i think on the rcd`s but i didnt look close

      I was about to make the same comment. I would prefer the main earth to go through the same hole as the tails in a tail gland

    You should change that second RCD in that small board in the loft conversion for a main switch , you don't have two 30 ma RCD one upstream to the other , plus you should change that wylex MCB for a mk one , at you should have notified the customer that work needs to be carried out ,

  • @Bazza-tn5ck

    Ditch the RCD in sub-board in loft 👍

    • @ChristmasCrustacean1
      @ChristmasCrustacean1 6 месяцев назад

      or move the 50A breaker off the RCD in the second board

    • @Bazza-tn5ck
      @Bazza-tn5ck 6 месяцев назад

      Front end RCD no main switch so not possible, also the feed from main consumer unit to sub-board was in T+E and the installation method would require supplementary protection so would therefore need to be clipped surface or otherwise suitably protected from damage I.e. armoured cable or trunking. So only viable option is remove RCD and sub-board therefore achieving “discrimination” and eliminating possibility of 2 RCDs tripping👍👍

    • @Bazza-tn5ck
      @Bazza-tn5ck 6 месяцев назад

      Sorry edit that 🤦‍♂️ the consumer unit is spilt load not front end as I first thought (look better 😅)

    Two RCDs in the circuit is just asking for issues - suggestive of a DIY bodge job or an incompetent spark. That needs to be corrected and the loft circuit(s) fully tested as there may well be an underlying fault - I don't think that would be wasting the customer's time and money. I'd also question the positioning of the loft circuit board. It is too concealed like that and needs to be more accessible.

  • @curtisj2165
    @curtisj2165 6 месяцев назад +2

    I would reconfigure the board downstairs so that the loft feed is non rcd protected. Two rcd's on that loft feed is asking for trouble

    • @_chrisr_
      @_chrisr_ 5 месяцев назад +1

      but that would require that the 6mm cable feeding it be protected mechanically which probably isn't possible now that it is installed. Easier just to remove the RCD in the sub-board since it isn't adding anything and since it has same rating as the one on the main board it can be a bit random as to which one will trip out first.

  • @ChristmasCrustacean1
    @ChristmasCrustacean1 6 месяцев назад +4

    Is there a borrowed neutral on the stairs lighting to the loft? Lights in original part look to be on the right RCD, loft on the left.

  • @chas3997
    @chas3997 6 месяцев назад +1

    Could be a timer or strapper wire circuit and poor run borrowed neutral running back through the wrong RCD when a two way switch is operated

    • @electrickal1
      @electrickal1 5 месяцев назад +1

      Didn't you hear that macerator motor cycling when he turned on the RCD? That starting and stopping will generate tripping spikes that will have undoubtedly caused the problem. A crossed wired neutral will trip every time a load exceeding the rated ma of the RCD is applied, so definitely not that.

    • @T_Perkins
      @T_Perkins 6 месяцев назад +3

      Ooo dibs on the macerator causing an issue. Random trip from a thinking of needing a good ol' mash up to 'oh, no, wait, no one's done doo doo, my bad,' RCD be like - kids be playing switch the power off.

      Hi Michael, what do you not like about the X1- I’m on the lookout for a new MFT. I have the Megger 1730

    • @michaelcox4081
      @michaelcox4081 2 месяца назад

      @@abdulseaforth6930 it’s missing a lot of the functions the the 1741, like stake-less earth testing, the (pure) auto test for Ze/s and RCD.
      It keeps showing neutral errors when doing the fake auto test, even when the leads are pre connected and the load is then switched on.
      When choosing different RCD testing modes it keeps changing the testing mA which is frustrating when the tester is a long way from the board and you don’t realise until halfway through / after the test.
      The battery is pants and will / can die without warning.
      When conducting 3-phase testing the switching of the leads around to different ports is a nightmare and can catch you out if you get complacent.
      The link to the CertSuite software it’s just gimmicky and as the tester can be nightmare for testing, it can take twice as long to get the relevant results sent across to the software, also if you haven’t got the tester, or the software set up correctly, the results just disappear.
      I found the 1741 was its own tester with its own user-friendly quirks however the X1 is very similar to a Kewtech in the way it operates.
      Megger might have done a software update but their website is still showing the original firmware and no updates.
      Currently, my X1 is sitting in a bag doing nothing and I’ve gone back to my 1741

      Don't think so as she said it tripped whilst she was out, so hardly any load on the circuits most likely. Sounded like a pump firing up when he turned the loft RCD on. That would be my first port of call, and obviously informing them that an RCD downstream of an RCD is asking for issues. Then the wylex breaker needs sorting in the MK Board, just my 2p!
