    Thats the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Young man diving in and getting his hands dirty, and finishing a project.
    Nicely done!!

    That is a great build. Good the very low humidity country, sure kept rust down. Great looking truck! Wonderful ideas, especially the 4.0 six.

    Like to see photos of the coil spring bucket to the frame. Doing the same swap to a wagon.

    oh no what you shoulda ( coulda ,woulda) is make it into a submarine with wings so it can fly in air or water and use a sterling heat engine.
    Serious comment now.
    It makes me happy to see young folks work towards a goal.
    And i guess if someone wants to buy it so they can '' Do it RIGHT'' I am willing to act as broker ( for a modest fee).
    The bidding starts at 13 million and 34 cents.

    Looking back, what would you recomend? Complete frame swap or just what you did?

    • @ColoradoMelons
      @ColoradoMelons  7 месяцев назад

      Well... first of all if someone is considering _this_ swap, XJ's don't have frames. They are unibody construction, so there is no choice to be made.
      Additionally, and it's a personal thing, I'm not a fan of frames that don't match-up with the underside of the body, especially on lifted vehicles where the frame is so visible. It's a small matter I guess, but if you've ever looked at something that was put on a Square Body Blazer frame you look at it and immediately think, "It's on a Blazer." because of all the weird gaps. A lot of really fun stuff has been built that way... just a matter of personal preference.
      The argument for the other side would be newer frames are usually already "boxed" in from the factory and therefore stronger just as they come, but we like welding.

      It was intended when we did this one and the truck is finished with a new bed and a 12,000 lb winch, but the owner/builder has been serving his country in the USAF and we haven't done another... yet.

    Do you cut and reuse the cherokee motor mounts or fab those up?

  • @robertsnyder5149
    @robertsnyder5149 4 года назад

    Glad you tossed that old flathead engine. I prefer to install a Buick V/6 instead of Jeep because you don't have to cut up the cab like you did.And I use a T-14 transmission which is pretty bulletproof. The Buick has more than enough power too.

    Good job I’m doing the very same thing on mind I took a tj donner but I’m putting coil spring all a round with long arm suspension from rough country would you know how much does the front drops when you installed the power train ?

    • @ColoradoMelons
      @ColoradoMelons  Год назад

      I'm sure you've figured it out by the time we've gotten around to replying, but for future readers we did measure how much the XJ came up when we removed the powertrain to accommodate a like amount but forget the actual number by now.

  • @davewinstead4834

    Did you consider using a TJ frame and saved time on fit of newer axles and drive train?

    • @ColoradoMelons
      @ColoradoMelons  Год назад

      Nope. We used what was available to us at the time and fabricated/adjusted accordingly.

    That's too cool but did you really use the d35?

    • @ColoradoMelons
      @ColoradoMelons  6 лет назад +1

      Sure did! We expect a lot of "shoulda done this" or "shoulda done that"... we've gotten it along the way in from people who drop by regarding the engine choice, and some other components too. As it is, it's a great platform to start with and he'll be able to upgrade this thing however he desires as life goes along.

    • @ColoradoMelons
      @ColoradoMelons  Год назад

      Sure did! The builder-man used what was available to him at the time and makes updates as time goes on. Meanwhile... he's driving it! :^D

      Trust me, even with the old 6 cylinder Super Hurricane motor, the Jeep truck is too slow and heavy on gas, making it unusable. Been thinking of stripping my 4.0 WJ to do the same!

    Good project for a young man...BUT the Willys engine will out last the AMC or Chrysler unit your putting in there.

      Agree to disagree.

    • @ColoradoMelons
      @ColoradoMelons  5 лет назад +1

      The funniest thing about Mr. Newkirk;s offhand comment is the Willys engine failed and was replaced by the original owner at only 53, 442 miles, less than a 1/3 of what was on the donor 4.0 before our rebuild and less than a 1/4 of what was on the owner's replacement 1954 Flathead Chrysler Spitfire 6 when we pulled it (50+ years later in still running condition) at 1:25+ in the video... BUT hey, anyone is entitled to spread all the misinformation they want without proper investigation in the name of fact these days.
