I think it's too much for an eight year old to really get. Or at least, it would have been too much for an eight year old ME. I saw it when I was twelve or thirteen, at a time when most kids haven't quite faced their mortality yet; and I actually think it was the perfect age to see such tragedy. I mean it affected me fore DAYS.
At 8, the tragedy probably would have gone over my head.
