- Land Rover LR 3 and Discovery 3 with brake switch problems.
symptoms:
-Limited gears available
-No auto cruise control available
- Gear shift only works in manual mode
- Rear stop light not working correct, or flashing all over including hazards
- all rear light are flashing with lights turned on including hazards.
- stays in 1st gear when lights are on after full stop, but works normally when no lights are turned on.
- Transmission fault on dashboard
- Limited gears available on dash board
- Suspension lowered on dash board
- Code PO504/ P0504 on OBD code reader

I replaced the brake light switch...the suspension light went off but the brake and warning lights remain on😕
Thanks for commenting and watching. Did you check the brake pads, there is an electric sensor installed on front left brake pads and rear right brake pads- if they are worn it throws the brake light immediately. You can removed it to see if the light goes away then you know you need to change brake pads. The warning lights can also be in connection with wrong or faulty brake lights - make sure you replace them all with the correct amperage since the car is sensitive to that. I think this will get you lands back with no faults.

Because it's part of a major safety component, it intentionally lowers and stabilizes the vehicle as well as puts it into a "limp mode" until it's repaired.
Correct - and lots of people don’t really realize this.

Wow I never knew that switch could cause so many problems. I got mine replaced last year when i took my Lr3 for service. There are times I have those warning lights as well especially during heavy rains.
Thank you for commenting and watching. If you are having problems during heavy rain, you might want to check out the TCM module. It is located in the right side of the car behind the battery. It is known to have been exposed to water damage and thus creating similar symptoms.

Mine has those electrical symptoms sometimes but only when I put a obd reader but I turn truck off and turn back on it’s back to normal I wonder if that’s my problem, thanks for content very helpful
Thank you for watching. and commenting - yes that could very easily be your problem. You could eventually try to disconnect the switch and see if this has any effect on the problem or change to the problem and it will give you the answer. have a look at your stoplights as well since the combination could confuse the circuits a bit, make sure you have the correct amperage on all your stoplights.
I hope that helps, the switch is about 35 use on amazon so its worth changing.

@techtips101 hi I'm a lady Landy lover with small hands so I should get in there. Question will I need to have the errors cleared with a Hawkeye or can I just do the battery disconnect shortcut

Thank for watching and commenting, the symptoms on your car can be a result of many. Did you check your stoplights? Breakswitch? Could be a wet TCM module too, check that for water intrusion. Is the engine running well on all 8 cylinders? Since it could be in limp mode caused by a clogged fuel injector too.
Hope that helps a little on the way but as I stated above, it could be numerous things that causes this problem.

If the car starts and runs but then cuts out and after waiting 10-20 mins starts and runs then dies, The fault is crank position sensor once it is changed the car will run fine. Sensor has a wire inside that is broken and after use it heats up and connection is broken. I had that issue on my 2000 Disco 2 and cost a lot, with tow, mechanics etc.

Thank you for watching - and commenting. No I don’t have that on my car even when it’s really warm outside. Which model is it ? Gas/diesel v8 ? 4,4 L 4L. ?
It could be several issues doing this. Have you checked if the fuel pump delivers enough pressure? Injectors might need cleaning, and would normally give an uneven or rough idle when running. Your spark plugs might need a reduced distance between the leads. I have put min down to .25 and this works better on my car. Your fuel pressure should be in the neighborhood of 25-35 psi.
Always use the highest octane fuel 93 or better since the Landy is somewhat sensitive to fuel octane.

Did you check your stoplights as well?
If not it might be a good idea to check the TCM module behind the battery for water intrusion, that can cause a huge mess and hard to find.

I have a 2014 RR sport hse. Had the fuel pump replaced, the brake switch replaced recently. But the vehicle cut off in traffic . I attempted to restart and the dash is showing gear shifter not in park and the vehicles will not crank. Can someone lead me in the right direction to at least get it crank up.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I am not too familiar with the newer 2014 model, however if the gear shifter is anywhere else than park it won’t start as a safety feature. Did you try to change the MAF sensor ? Or clean it ?

Hello I have similar problem, hazard lights flashing , HDC fault in dash then it shut down and won’t start after , after a few minutes later it will start, but shut down again . Then the brake light comes on & hazard lights. Could that be the same problem?
Oh” also the seat on the driver side is laid back and won’t move in up right position now
Thank you for watching and commenting. I will try to help you out here, but it's a lot of different items. To answer your question could it be the same - yes. However I would first look at your rear brake light bulbs and change them all to the right Amps and specs. The brake switch could have gotten water and cause the same problem or contribute to your problems, and last but not least the TCM. module, located behind the fusebox could have had water intrusion as well. Start with the light bulbs - it's easy, cheap and fast. then Brake switch.

The seat problem is. not really one I can help with from here since it can be various reasons for it to fail. However just check the fuses, and the seat adjustment contactor/controller first.

What do you mean “reset the computer” ? How do you do that without the gap tool ?

To reset the computer, you will have to disconnect. the battery, and when disconnected, you will have to short circuit the two wires, to get rid of any lead current in the system. Then wait for 30 seconds before connection the lead wires to the battery again. this will cause the computer to reset, and you will see the fuel used per gallon will be starting up as new, and after a couple of days with normal driving fast and slow, the computer will have reset your driving patterns and reflect a new set of parameters. I might actually make a video for you on that the coming week.

Hi, when i try to do a scanning on my 2005 LR3 V8 4.4 only the ELM is connected the ECU is not getting connected, can you pls tell me the possible reason for this. I Changed the switched and it worked well for few days and back again the same problems, all the dash lights on including F Transmission.
Dear Nirmal, thanks for watching and commenting. There can be a possible causes here, do you by any chance have had water entering the area where the ELM and ECU modules are located ? its a quiet common failure and it will trigger all kinds of lights as well. Did you check your rear brake lights, they have to be the right amperage in. order for the system to work properly.

How do you drive an automatic gearbox as a manual? TY
Thanks for watching and commenting - the answer to your question is that on the land rover your gear shift lever when it is in drive can be pulled to the left and then be enabled to shift manual. The plus sign means shifting up and minus means shifting down, can be very helpful in terrain or challenging terrain. This means you are in charge of gearshifting, however it does downshift if you forget, but does not automatically upshift. You will have to keep an eye on the RPM’s or just listen to the engine.

@@techtips101 I jst read a comment in a different page where 1 guy said the bulb he put also created problems. Thus one has to get the correct bulb.
@@selebalotsiu7139 that is correct - it has to be the right bulb, otherwise you risk the car not shifting gears or stuck in 3rd, lowering suspension etc etc.

I hope that helps. The TCM module is very sensitive to water and is known to get exposed to water when you drive through car washes using pressure. The cowl seem to leak.
