UK - 44932 takes charge of The Scarborough Spa Express, 17/8/2023

The expected power for The Scarborough Spa Express, Royal Scot 46115, failed a test the day before the run, so Jubilee 45699 was expected on the day. However, this too must have had a problem because Black 5 number 44932 actually turned up and had put on its usual perfect performance, running exactly to time throughout and with the locomotive barely seeming to have to work to maintain the limit of 60mph.
Our first sight of the Black 5 was at Hillam in North Yorkshire, where a panning shot was supplemented by Dandan operating the second camera for a lineside shot.
A quick run past its water stop at Church Fenton allowed for another fine approaching shot at Colton Junction, where several routes merge just to the south of York.
The return working was caught at Strensall to the north east of York in much brighter weather than the morning locations had provided.

Thank you. On the outbound service they carries Express Passenger headlamp code but these were changed to the Unfitted Express Freight code on the return. This was a rarely used code in steam days. The electric light in the middle of the buffer beam is a fixed modern fitment of course. Thanks for pointing it out. I hadn't noticed it myself ..... Andy
