No reverb effect, it's his natural voice. You should see his mv behind the scene where he plays the piano and softly sings without microphone. Yes, his singing voice and speaking voice is totally different.

What I like about Alec Benjamin is that unlike some singers once rose to fame becomes hardheaded but he is still humble even though he is already famous and his voice too
Never heard this before until Merrick Hanna danced to this song on America got talent, and he did a perfect performance. So it brought me here to this page to say you are so talented and u created such a beautiful song, great job young man. The best part of it is that I understood every word and it made sense, comparing to most songs that we hear today, this song is like a breath of fresh air keep up the good work.

It is both literally about a boy building a robot for a friend, and symbolically about growing up and moving on from our childhood friends and passions.
Raleigh Ojanola It’s about his REAL best friend, and when he goes to college his best friend feels forgotten, so he commented suicide
He explains in a video but it’s about how he makes a friend or a robot and they spend a lot of time together doing a lot of fun things until he has to leave behind his friend to go to college and they are sad but when he is graduating he meets a girl and forgets about his friend and when he comes back to visit there’s a suicidal note and he find him dead or short circuited on the ground becuase his friend wasn’t there to help him through hard times it’s a really sad story
