  • Budget EG TSX Head Swap Returns to the Dyno: Win?
    By Aaron Gaghagen and Brian Gillespie
    Budget EG stomped Aaron's B18C powered EG and that was solid. But when Budget EG hit the track against muscle and sports cars, it wasn't enough. We could keep up in the corners, not coming out of the corners though. First we tried to swap a TSX K24A2 head on to our Accord K24A4 block and that was a no-go. The shape of the combustion chamber didn't play well with our pistons. So we pulled a K24A1 from a wrecked CRV in the yard. The K24A2/K24A1 combo should give us the boost in power that we're looking for.

      Their capacitors wear out if you’re always plunging in and running scan tools and tuners constantly, I’ve fried two because I left my scan tools plugged in overnight. Ruined a new battery too somehow. I only plug in to scan a code or run a diagnostic now. But I use to do it all the time just to watch the live data… but old ECUs/PCM can’t handle it for long. Luckily ECUs at the junk yard are $40 instead of $1800 new from Honda

      @greeenteeee 2 года назад

      @@ceeelowe wait. I run a ScanGauge II for live data. And for years people have used BT OBDII readers. Are you saying I’m running the risk of damaging the ECU?

      @@greeenteeee you’re most likely ok I believe I have a phantom electrical short in my battery harness. I have a Bluetooth code reader for JDM cars only. Once i started plugging it in and overzealously scanning literally all the time because I just got it and love it so much I somehow fried my computer…twice. Lol. Later I saw from @Speed Academy that they had similarly run into problems with wore out capacitors in old ECUs, since Bluetooth live data was the only thing that had changed for me I gotta blame it on my daily live data scanning was just too much for the ol car brain. 2007 L15 GD3 Again I left the bluetooth dongle plugged in overnight… multiple times… and which is what mostly fried the ECUs. Got me gun shy to scan my newest junkyard ECU now 😂

      I don’t follow the contradiction.
      I leave it plugged in to monitor things like coolant temp, batt voltage, and whatever else need be, on the fly- never heard of capacitors being blown out until you, so I’m looking for clarification

      @ceeelowe 2 года назад

      @@greeenteeee I’ve never had an ECU go bad until I got a Bluetooth scan tool… if you’ve never had an issue, then that’s why I say your fine and it must be an electrical arc shorting somewhere in my specific car’s system; but I’ve also heard from a couple RUclips mechanics that running scanners all the time just overall isnt good for an old ECU…. so I’m not trying to confuse u just wanted to share my experience, getting towed, and walking home 8 miles from a Honda dealership at noon ☀️🌞☀️ is an experience I dont wish upon my worst enemy so just FYA, entropy and Murphy’s law do apply to old fickle ECUs but luckily theyre still fairly cheap at ebay junk yards if u do fry it.
