      I’m watching it in the year 2021, and I am very inspired even though it is dated.
      One scary part is at 1:09:10. Where Peter explains that government bureaucracies have gone from allowance if it is not prohibited to not allowed unless it is specifically permitted. This is a road to disaster, the squashing of innovation.
      My business involves a lot of innovation and almost everything I do is under the table, out of the side of government bureaucrats, to the great benefit of my customers and to the good Earth.
      It’s very funny, my customers are both liberals who love the government in every way except when it has to do with their personal business, and as well libertarian tight people who absolutely hate the government. I am of the latter ilk.

    I see one of the many videos like this and am astounded that it only has tens of thousands of views. These are the people who are going to change the world for the better, and they deserve more attention.

    • @ches95ramos
      @ches95ramos 9 лет назад

      That was beautifully worded. I too believe that they are astounding individuals who will change the world. We need to show people that this stuff is exciting.

    • @shadfurman
      @shadfurman 9 лет назад

      I think the problem is people are pessimistic. What "these people" are saying is too grand for many people to understand, and when they make the changes people forget and say, yea of course its that way, thats not visionary. For example, for decades people said a decent functional AI, you'd be able to talk to it and most of the time it would give you the right answers, Star Trek computer like. Tada, Siri. Now people complain that 30% of the time Siri does't understand what they want... while they're driving with the windows down. People say we haven't progressed in space since the moon landings, 30 years ago we put a telescope in space and changed astronomy. 20 years ago we put an internationally coordinated space station in space. 5 years ago we had our first commercial space companies successfully make space and 2 years ago orbital velocity. Those were "big" events when they happened, but the bigness only lasted a few days to months, now its old hat, that just is, boring.
      Lets start with recognizing the BOLD visionaries of our past because by the time this generations visionaries prove themselves it will be the past. (see what I did there... Diamandis... BOLD... hehehe)

    • @goddesssolaria4509
      @goddesssolaria4509 8 лет назад

      +Hunter Elofson "I see one of the many videos like this and am astounded that it only has tens of thousands of views. "
      Don't be so astounded, to triple or quadruple the views the uploader need only need include a kitten playing with a ball of wool. Very, very few people in the world do the 'innovation' bit... and I mean its tiny, well less than 1%...everyone else is along for the ride, even of the viewers here less than 1% of them will create, or develop or promote anything of any real value. I grant you it is a waste, but thats the nature of humanity as a system,. Most are consumers and users and a tiny percentage do the advancement.

      How do you expect to fix abrupt climate change because unless that's fixed, there's no hope for anything. And do it in 10 years or so? And keep in mind that every greenhouse gas molecule only adds to an irreversible and catastrophic problem. Just curious.

    Can't believe this has been up since March 2010 and I only just found it now... What an excellent presentation. I never listen to people who tell me that something can't be done, I have been on a mission to discover anti-gravity technology for the past 5 years and I have probably come closer to making it a reality than anyone who has tried before... Why? Because I think like this guy, and if more people don't start thinking like this we're all doomed....

    I have an Idea that will improve the lives of everyone on the planet. I held it in my hands in a dream and it was real. It was my doppelganger of sort, in the future. My whole life's existence and every thing I've learned and touched in science was accessible all at once with great speed. I was able to compound technologies that were never before connected but are already in use individually as a part of other applications. I cried because I knew I was given one of the greatest gifts ever.

    He also pointed out that one should remember their weapons were produced by the lowest bidder!
    Another that all soldiers should remember that when they have the enemy in range....well they are too!
    All sound advise. He was also an aerospace engineer.

    Mr. Diamimandis, I have deep regrad for your vision, wide heartedness, seriousness as to positive change of civilization and mankind. I share your every dimension of activity. And in order to support you in your endeavor I am offering a little academic present to you so that involve people to do research in this field. I am being aretired university professort material to this research in full this is my hummble peep into your project. As time is runnig fast. we have to see this done at the earliest. You are the man who can do this most effectively. SoPolicy automation and its dimensions
    Policy automation is the demand of our time. This is due to the exponential technological innovation that is taking place today and the automation thereof. What signifies at the moment is to determine what would be its basic foundation.
    The central principle of the essence and perspective of policy automation will be to innovate way outs to sweep off the authority content that has pervaded in its context traditionally. Also there is an issue of impersonalizing its operational mechanism keeping alive the human touch that no policy affair can bypass.
    The ray that peeps to focus light on this is that policy spring must be in the academia so that it can have both the human touch and the human knowledge content and knowledge transformation that can match with update needs with perspective change over time. This will also ensure human supervision over policy need, policy formulation and policy application. This will match exactly with individual liberty, human superiority and the need to set aside involvement of politics and politicians.
    Academic research must be associated with a research project continuum that can address every new perspective and their minute dimensions. New frontiers of knowledge inclusion will be needed to be made compulsory. For, without this catastrophic counterproductive events may follow. As the automation rate is increasingly becoming more and more exponential this demands special attention.

    Moving to space and settling on other planets is likely to change us biologically. Lower gravity creates larger and less dense bodies, that are probably not able to survive on Earth anymore.

      The only way to deal with this is to build rotating structures for additional gravity, in space or even on the Mars surface. And to a certain extent physical training like on the ISS.

      The insight, that our organs change in zero gravity comes from fairly new research on the ISS and MIR. So, many of these earlier proposals don't take this in account. But the last one goes in the right direction - O'Neill and Bernal type stations could be the solution.
      On the surface of Mars, Moon or asteroids it could be enough when the astronauts sleep in a rotating ring that provides the missing gravity (just as a thought).

    • @robertgraybeard3750
      @robertgraybeard3750 7 лет назад

      +quinto190 One thing that has happened is that "some" astronauts have had the shape of their eyeballs change after a long duration mission on ISS - it is know that all astronauts in zero or micro-g have had body fluids shift away from what would have been their lower extremities in a normal gravity environment

    Very inspiring, thank you Peter, I’m watching this in year 2021, so positive your attitude and methodology, but a warning to the wise you give at 1:09:10! Regarding government bureaucracy the FAA, denying you for so many years the pursuit of the endeavor to have 0G commercial flights.
    The key thing is that the government bureaucracies are big giant “no machines.“ No you can’t do this no you can’t do that.
    Like you say, it used to be if it wasn’t prohibited you could try it, now it has gone to it it’s not allowed specifically, you can’t do it.
    In my business, almost everything I do is without the permission of the government, and my clients, both liberal and conservative, none of them want anything to do with the government and what we are doing our good things for the good Earth, trust me.

    Until recently, every science and technology talk explained that we were held down by primitive ideas like "the Earth is at the Center of the Universe", (as anyone who has eyes can see, but..), the planets revolve around the Sun,(not really, it's a Center of Gravity based optical illusion), and so on, all because judgements by appearance passed from one generation to the next according to personal relevance and management of perceptions.
    On topic, everyone actually "makes their future" possible from a imagined map of real experience and what they believe, it's fundamentally true.
    The Actuality of QM-TIMESPACE Singularity Conception, mathematically at the Central Limit Eternity-now Superspin Superposition-point Singularity positioning of Time Duration Timing is the basis of conscience awareness at e-Pi-i interference positioning. (The single connection in Principle of zero-infinity difference distribution)
    Translate the currently adopted "primitive materialist ignorance" value system, caused by confusing the durability of physicality of substance.., when-how all is vibration/quantization.., superimposed AM-FM communication mechanism modes that are real Math-Phys-Chem and Geometry, into rational and reasonable statements of Timing-spacing dynamical holographic image projection. Imagination matches the future-projection of past-drawing, positioning systems here-now forever, with remembered states.
    Feynman said, "the easiest person to fool is yourself", in conjunction with all the most interesting things of the then "mysterious" Quantum Mechanics and computational methods.., which is why, if, all this time, we are all mystified by what is easily observable, it's already the case of "fooled", generally, effortlessly.
    "The most valuable real estate" in the Universe is knowing who you/we are in the context of Actuality here-now-forever, ..cause-effect temporal existence, in terms of Singularity. (A very good name for a University!)
    Definitely fun to imagine.

    Forget the CO2 Prize and and offer one for CO2-free Energy production, for example through molten salt thorium reactors or same and safe breeders, nuclear batteries or micro plants for the third world. Something you can put on the back of a truck perhaps or something simple that can provide energy for the age of energy abundance. Something that is build in a factory and decommissioned in a factory too, perhaps by robots. Something to burn nuclear waste perhaps.

      The iphone, android Os and mobile telecommunications. That one even caused huge wars and revolutions we refer to as both the Syrian civil war and the spring revolutions.
      The one that could have been invented at any time since the late mid 18th century would be the gravity light. impact on a huge amount of people giving them electric light with no solar or gas or need to find a socket. That one advent alone will increase literacy in Africa.
      Birth control patch, braille glove, youtube, facebook twitter and social media.
      Personal DNA testing. Genomics, biofuels and biotech (the fastest growing industry on the planet)
      Its not commercial yet but in 2010 researchers transported one atom from A to B (1 meter) ... ie. teleportaion. It won't however work on compounds.
      In clothing NanoTex was invented in 2002.
      In terms of AI and robotics well take your pick, although I accept this will result in more immediate harm than immediate good. About 50% of jobs worldwide are now at risk due to a combination of AI and robotics. But its a boon for industrialists.
      Theres too many to mention from 2010 onward.... hundreds of thousands.
      I would say offhand that Qmilch is one of the most beneficial... clothing thats made of milk proteins that degrades over time.

    I had heard of it, but with limited exposure. Since writing that comment 9 months ago I've been reading things at Lesswrong and other sites, which has material than my typical brain doesn't easily understand, but that seems to imply greater possible returns for institutions other than the X Prize Foundation (particularly, Singularity Institute). However, I would not donate all my money to only one, and this comment is turning into an inadequate rambling of charity optimization.

    @AlienScientist "I have been on a mission to discover anti-gravity technology for the past 5 years" Oh? How lovely! How's that "mission" goin for you there, sparky? Clearly, time well-spent. A testament to misguided enthusiasm, as opposed to feasible and forward-thinking areas of study. Mr. Diamandis would presumably giggle at this. What on earth with the tin-foil hat people do without their conspiracy theories? Life would certainly hold less meaning.
