Don't forget that two of the French were Maurice Gamelin and Maxime Weygand, who where the two head of staff of the French army during the fall of france, Édouard daladier who was the former President du conseil fought all the ww1 and earn the Légion d'Honneur and 4 army citations for his action and there were also a sister of General de Gaulle who was there for resistance action, so seeing a tank and seven soldiers to save them it's not really impressive
@Timothy Cedrone Anyone with a brain can back that the French are more than competent warrior but I guess any keyboard warrior is worth 1200 years of history
@Timothy Cedrone That happened one fucking time hey ? French had poor leadership only during ww2. Algeria was well fought, Indochina too. You must know that Americans lost Vietnam due to politics, not military reasons. So you based your whole fucking statement about France based on 1940 campaign. I can give you many battles of ww2 where the French were well commanded. Enough battles to make you stop saying bullshit about French soldiers
@Timothy Cedrone america: loose against some rice eater hidding in a forest france: after thousands-years history, loose against one of the best army in the world
Now even before this event, relationship between Wehrmacht and SS was actually bad. SS officers considered themselves as loyalty of sort just like back in German Empire or Prussian times, and thought of Wehrmacht as army formed by ‘peasants’ while Wehrmacht officers thought of SS officers as fancy guys with nice clothings, while taking supplies that they needed.
If you read some of the stuff from late in the war, the SS was especially bad with this shit. There are all manner of accounts from ex German soldiers talking about SS who did shit like show up and "Requisition" food from people on train station platforms or force conscript entire villages of their male population above the age of 6. By the time of the Battle of Berlin, there were cases where they were doing stuff like mass recruiting children as young as 6 then sending them in wave attacks against soviet forces in counter attacks. One specific instance I recall from a german conscripts book was a mass attack in the night involving 10k child soldiers.
It was kind of the other way around. The SS had their loyalties towards Hitler and the Nazi party while the Wehrmacht were made up of normal Germans lead by Prussian generals. Hitler hated the Prussian generals. Though, the SS and Wehrmacht certainly didn't get on.
I think I remember watching another video this years ago and I vaguely remember that the whole American, French and German working together thing supposedly started off with some random guy cycling through a small town. But then again this was years ago and I’m probably getting it confused but either way this is a very good video 👍🏻
I love this story, That two enemies can fight side by side for a common goal....Though I knew what Borotra did I didn't know about him acting that way when confronted by a machine gun nest ....What a hero & a troll meister.
The book is an awesome read doing great justice to an incredible story. BTW, the prisoners were quite a collection. One of whom was Charles DeGaulle's sister.
@@Julio-wc3vg I’m sure it was a animation error, besides it’s American thinking every tank was a Tiger. Never did I hear anyone say that they thought all “Heavy Cannons” were the 88mm though that’s probably because besides King Tigers, the strongest cannons were 88mm.

@@LarryGarfieldCrell its supposed to be a French production so no Hollywood. but probs only in French for the next 4 years until they dub over the American and Germans in their own language.
We know this because of, you guessed it, Sabaton. And definitely there needs to be a film made about this as it is something so extraordinary not that many are aware of. Really great for Yarnhub to post this on Christmas. A wonderful present from them.
Not sure if it would be the best idea. The media and unwashed twitter hate mob would probably ignorantly bash it for being pro-nazi if we tried showing US and German soldiers fighting side by side, especially if we show Captain Schrader(a SS officer, which is only allowed to be a bad guy by current day political standards)
that is a possibility, but the bashing has potential to work against the “ignorant hate mob” and bring increasing publicity and discussion around their target. Especially if the writing for such a film is handled well. A character arc of disillusionment, redemption and sacrifice created for Gungl and Schrader could be just the thing to shatter the stereotype that all Germans of the time were twisted evil nazis and convey the respect that many veterans felt for the soldiers of the Wehrmacht. Great things are rarely achieved by the fear of backlash and controversy.

I had heard about this story before seeing it animated and told like this makes me want a movie about it so bad! What an awesome story and great video to go with it!
“ the French prisoners were unimpressed.” Yep, that sounds like Frenchmen alright!
@Timothy Cedrone Dude then read again what you said since you literally said the French are poor warriors, not that their leaders are dumb lmao

Interesting I didn't knew that
If you read some of the stuff from late in the war, the SS was especially bad with this shit.
Basically like the IJN vs IJA but with a mix.
I think I remember watching another video this years ago and I vaguely remember that the whole American, French and German working together thing supposedly started off with some random guy cycling through a small town.
But then again this was years ago and I’m probably getting it confused but either way this is a very good video 👍🏻

@@justanunluckyirishmaninabl5178 True. I'd be absolutely stoked if this battle was adapted to a film, just worried that people will bash it out of ignorance and start unnecessary drama over history.
