      Necrotic Nick- Hey! Not a problem, man! Jason was cool enough to send me a copy of the first one and I dug that one so when I saw this I was pretty stoked to go over it. Man, this is even better than the debut. You guys killed it. I'm glad we could put some more eyes on this beast of an album for you.

    I like this band even though I can't listen to Euro Power Metal. Great mix of styles, top level musicianship. Debut album great too as you say. 4/5 for me. Great review.

      @thrallsofmetal  4 месяца назад +1

      Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, when I do listen to power metal (which isn't very often) I generally gravitate more towards the US power metal sound since it's generally a bit heavier and more varied. This and the debut definitely have more of that sound but I really love the progressive elements they added here.

    The riffs are great and the vocals are good, there weren't any particularly catchy vocal sections imo which is something I look for in this genre. I'd kill for at least a few harsh vocal sections to balance it all out as well but I know that's not a thing really in this genre. 6/10 for me, great review guys.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  4 месяца назад

      Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I found some solid vocal hooks on here but the riffs and leads really steal the show here if I'm being honest. Every lead on here was a scorcher and the interplay between the guitarist is amazing. The "harsher" vocals on here are a bit more on the thrash side which is why I brought up Forbidden in particular. It's pretty much just gruffer singing but it does add a heavier edge when they're used.

  • @joshalan5125
    @joshalan5125 4 месяца назад +3

    Power Metal is a subgenre where I generally like the sound okay but don't really care for the vocals. I don't mind clean singing when its done right with classic metal bands such as Dio or Iron Maiden. I've never been into the ultra high pitched, almost opera style of singing in power metal that sounds like all the testosterone was sapped out of it. If this band sounds anything like Brainstorm, Innerwish or Mystic Prophecy though, I might check them out.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  4 месяца назад +1

      Necrotic Nick- Yeah, that's one of my biggest detractors with power metal are the vocals. I'm picky about clean singing in metal and power metal often sounds to damn happy in my opinion but I liked that these had some range in the delivery. It's been awhile since I jammed Brainstorm (I own 2 of their albums) but this might be comparable if I remember right.

    You guys should check out the new Witherfall album if you dig this. It just came out this past Friday as well. Jake Dreyer, the guitarist, was in Iced Earth before all of that stuff with Jon went down and Marco Minnemann is behind the kit (He was a member sort of but left after this record was recorded. He was on the previous album as well). Witherfall is like Thrashy/Proggy Power Metal I'd say. I think you guys would dig them. Joseph Michael is a fantastic vocalist and he's actually related to the late great Ronnie James Dio.

I'll have to check them out when I get some free time.

    Great review guys. I'm going to have to check this one out.
    Although you probably know them already, I highly recommend Blind Guardian, Lost Horizon, Kamelot and Symphony X (prog power) for bands that excel at delivering great power metal with at times a healthy dose of aggression.

Symphony X is pretty solid but I've yet to really dive into their stuff. I may check out some more stuff by these bands when I get a chance though.

    I got early Helloween vibes (Jericho and both Keys), which is fantastic stuff. Power metal can be good, but 90% of power metal bands are hokey and cheesy.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  4 месяца назад

      Necrotic Nick- Power metal is definitely the subgenre that I'm the most picky with. It's for sure the "cheese factor" but the heavier stuff does tend to hit more often.
