Why do you need to sample your synth and drums? What’s the profit? And why do you use automatisation for side chain? It’s easier to use peak controller + compressor.
The main reason why I rendered to sample my piano and drums is for chopping which you can't do with midi (however i didn't chop for this beat). Also I prefer to have it in sample form but it really doesn't matter if you render it or not. When it comes to sidechaing: I know there are dozen of ways to sidechain. I have this habit of using fruity balance automation - its simpler for me. In the end it doesn't really matter if you compress it or volume automate it - if it sounds good its fine :)
Hi! Yes, I sidechain the sample, bass and sometimes other elements like vinyl noise (not necessary) to the kick. Firstly its because it creates this so called 'umph' effect, this cool ducking sound in volume which makes beat more bouncy. Secondly, it fixes potential issues with distortion when kick (bass frequencies) clash with bass (bass frequencies as well). In lofi this distortion problem doesnt happen often, since its a chill type of music, with not much big bass and kicks, but sometimes it happens especially in the mastering/mixing parts. Hope it helped!
