Lewitt MTP 350 CM Mic Review / Test (w/ SM58, MTP 940 CM, KMS105 Comparison)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 авг 2024
- Today I review a great handheld condenser microphone which is a great option for live use. The MTP 350 CM has a very controlled low-end due to a 200hz high pass filter, an articulate mid section and a airy and open top end. The handling noise rejection and background noise rejection is top notch, although the plosive rejection leaves a bit to be desired. I also include a comparison the the Shure SM58, Audio Technica AT2010, sE Electronics V7, Shure Beta 87a, Rode M2, Lewitt MTP 940 CM, and the Neumann KMS105.

3:04 How do I flag as inappropriate for displaying the image of a corpse, 'cause I'm pretty sure that's the face of a man who died a long time ago
hey bandrew, just wanted to give you a big sloppy thank you. im 13 and i would always watch your reviews from maybe 1 year and a bit ago and it really came in helpful when i was doing my first year of music technology at school, since we started off learning about microphones and interfaces. and because your reviews were so educational, i had learned a whole lot about microphones before anyone else in my class which really pushed me to the top of the class. so thank you for that
Lewitt makes some of the best sounding mics out there.
The Lewitt MTP 350 CM is sounding good, natural with your voice from here. Similar to the KMS105. Not great on guitar, but the song was rad! When do you release your new record? 🎸
This thing sounds way better than i thought, i think i'll add this one to my wish-list.
Hi Bandrew, just wanted to say thanks for your review of the neat king bee. I just got mine in the mail and set it up. It sounds great!
Your review videos are so well done, very professional but with a nice edge of humour, in fact one of the best reviewers out there
The comparisons in these videos are so good. Thanks again for another excellent demo.
Great video and great job - very useful. I’m using the 350 CM for live jobs. And it sounds great. I have used Shure SM86, Audix OM3, OM5, OM7, Shure Beta 87a, etc. But the Lewitt simply sunds better and the noise handling is pure A game 👍🏻
I love it! I want one of these guys so bad. Seems perfect to do some cameo recordings down by the lake!
Thanks for all your reviews, I bought this Lewitt MTP 350CM which I use for livestream performance and it's fantastic. I previously used a Sennheiser e835 and a SM7b for livestreaming but the Lewitt MTP 350CM fit my voice best
I am certain Lewitt is going to topple the big boys like Rode and Blue in the years to come. Just a personal opinion.
@Podcastage Thank you for your reviews. I found you about a week ago. I ended up watching several hours of your videos and was able to make an informed decision on what mic in my price range that i should get me wife for her Birthday.
Thank you for the video. Please consider reviewing Lewitt MTP 550 DM - around 100$, top model of their dynamic handheld line, direct competitor to sm58 and hopefully interesting solution even for podcasting and streaming!
I swear I have seen all of your freaking videos and every mic sounds good to me even when you say it doesn't. I just watch the videos bc your reviews are so satisfying 😂
Wow, to my ears, only other Mic that sounded better was the 940 CM. I've been a big fan of the Shure beta series but this is an incredible stage mic for a bargain price. Thank you for an awesome review video.
True. I noticed this too
Some information for others:
I just bought a SM57 with a M-Audio AIR 192 | 6 and it's amazing! Gain is set to around 4:00 and there is close to no noise at that level.
I'm really enjoying it!
Btw thank YOU podcastage for the SM57 video!
It's good that you found something that works well for you!
First. FOR THE BOIS!
Second
Aye
Well I never.
Lol, I just noticed that on every technical forum (gearslutz, diygroup, some local groups) almost every single human is... a man....
btw where is the girls? WHY THEY DON'T CARE????
yas
sorry didn't see the whole way through! awesome comparison - looks like this is the new video I am going to be watching over and over to figure out sdc to go for. I am literally memorizing some of these ridiculous songs from like the rode m3 haha Thanks so much for all these thorough videos! IMHO you're the authority on all mics on youtube
Dude, you are hands down the best music and recording gear reviewer on RUclips. These days i see your videos simply to hear you talk about whatever you want 😁.
same
Finally, an affordable, high quality on-stage condenser, for when we can't get on stage anymore. Hoorah! Prefer the 87a, expensive Lewitt, but it does sound nice on your voice. Scary on the guitars though.
I'm pretty sold, Bandrew. But personally I have musical work loads in the future. If I'm looking for an ungrade for my current setup, I might go for the LCT 240 pro. Thanks for the review, keep it up! 👍
Nice review video man, love the consistent methods and useful tips. But I have a suggestion for live mics, handheld condenser mics even more so as they are a "new" thing for the stage and they are priced normally, I am missing one thing ... is there a chance to add a reviewing method to the table where you would have a small to medium sized room (I saw you have many rooms to choose from;), like a practise space where you would have a band (or one 3/4 track recording of a rock trio/quartet without vocals - playing trough speakers at a similar level as if they would play in live the practise room - you could also have a speaker in each corner playing a different instrument), and sing (hard+smooth) in the mics or make measurements of how much bleed there is from different angles and other instruments, when the feedback comes in, how it colours the sound and so forth ... I miss that and it would make a good addition to the decider if I should buy the mic online, based on your review and maybe how it performs in a "live" session room ... the day you decide to use this idea ;) ... it would also make an additional info about how condenser live mics compare to the established dynamic mics and so the singers would have a better understanding of all the options that are out there. Keep'm coming!
another Lewitt! THANKYOU BANDREW ❤️
Bandrew, If I go broke, I blame you! The sE Electronics V7 finally arrived on my doorstep last week and now you've tempted me with this excellent microphone.
Paul - Enjoy the v7 for bit before deciding if you want to buy another handheld mic. The v7 is phenomenal!
@@Podcastage It's amazing, I absolutely love the v7!
Awesome video as always!
i don't know how long you've been improving or if you tried or not, but something i noticed: your singing has gotten significantly better over the years of me watching this channel. heck ye
i realize this isn't supposed to be a huge showoff of ur vocal prowess, but it was a pleasant music test haha
Hey Bandrew your reviews have always been helpfull and I love your work... But this time I felt that the review was a bit biased because I don't think that this is good at all. It doesn't even have a on/off switch that u didn't consider anywhere..
But you really are creating some great content keep it up.
I think the MTP 350 CM compares pretty well to most of those other mics. It definitely sounds better than the SM58, and IMO even compares well to the MTP 940 CM. The Neumann actually sounds a little bass heavy to my ears, but I almost feel like I'm having hearing fatigue from listening to such similar-sounding mics before that one. I kind of like the MTP 940 CM the best, at least in this comparison.
thank you for the review. great microphone. a true bargain. i switch beetween this one and a sennheiser 935, which comes off a little less forgiving and colder than the lewitt. the shure 58 can just really be used, if you want to create a vintage vocal feel. way to compressed for a detailed audio performance now.
Hello Bandrew I bought this mic because of your review! and I love it! It sounds the same as Shure which is more expensive. I hope you can review MTP 840 DM so I can decide too :)
Noticeable high quality in the lewitt 940 ✅ mostly in the highs! Very good
Hey buddy, can you do a review on the Slate ML-1 using some of the different mic models? Appreciate your channel and podcast. Cheers
That mic is very complimentary to your voice. You sound immediately just right speaking on it. I noticed that within seconds of the start of your video.
Thank you very much Peter. You didn't find it fatiguing at all? Do you think that less bassy mics are more complimentary to my voice or just this one worked?
Podcastage Not the least bit fatiguing. Actually, I found it to be strong in a low mid frequency that just happens to flatter your own voice tone, and that warmth with just a bit of presence sounds like the EQ curve I’d dial in just for you. Just guessing, I’d say its just a bit forward between 100-300. Most similar was the KMS105, which is my all-time fave for almost anybody. I’d suggest you put your name on that Lewitt.
I hope to see a full review of the 940 in due course.
Absolutely that’s coming.
Still waiting on the MTP 940 CM review...
6:23 lol Did I hear Uncle Jesse? Always nice guitar playing btw
Best choice for me seems KMS105, followed by SM58 (!)... - I know this sounds boring 😜, but I listened through all of them several times with studio grade cans now... THANKS for the nice and useful comparison!
I don`t want to disappoint you, but just pay your attention - KMS105 has serious distortions ((( But it sound tonally pretty well.
@@user-vl6zl5nn4y I do not hear distortion, but a super clean high end, in fact cleaner than with many expensive LDCs - plus max SPL is 150dB (!) for the KMS105. Yes, I recognize some warmth in the mids, which I like - it's not completely neutral in it's frequency response, but it takes EQ exceptionally well (I own KMS105s, and compared them in detail to many others).
I'm thinking about getting a mic for vocal recording when I'm traveling..... No sound treatment and much more control over background noise. Would this isolate in a similar way that a dynamic mic does? Or would it pick up everything a couple rooms away like a typical large diaphragm condenser does? Are we talking near dynamic mic background noise rejection with this thing? Your videos are so entertaining. Thanks!
Triple thumbs up for box distance 👍👍👍😁
Hi bandrew! I noticed that you also have the 550dm, are you gonna be reviewing it as well or comparing it to this? i plan on recording on it and maybe using it on some stages and wanting to knoww which is better
Thanks for great vids! Where can I find the windscreen you have in your hand at 2:35?
Hi! Sounds and looks nice. How would you compare with another classic, the Sennheiser e835? Thanks!!!!
Hello I've been watching your channel and I love you do reviews on microphones . Would you recommend this microphone to record vocals on a room that has no soundproofing. I've been struggling to record vocals with some condenser microphones because of neighbors dogs keeps barking. Hope you can answer my question. Thank you! :)
the low end on the Neuman was very nice. but all mics sounded more than good enough!
merci ! you are a very usefull human ! thanx !
I’m considering a Yeticaster (with boom arm) or a Samson G-Track Pro with bo boom arm. I’m a beginner. What would you recommend I buy? Is the boom arm a necessary component in the long run?
Hi, what mic would you reccomend for capturing full body sound of an acoustic? Price range around $100?
What is your settings for your blue yeti it sounds so good - do you ude a software?
Hi, recentlyI have bought a Shure SMB 7b and had Rodcaster pro couple year ago , do I need cloudlifter c1 or any suggestions please
Great review. What in your opinion are the best budget dynamic and condenser microphones for baritone type voice ?
For baritone, you'll likely want one that's brighter. However, it's different for everyone. The e835 is my favorite I've used on my voice, but it may be different for you.
Hey podcastage ,I would like the nw3 neewr. Looked for it over amzon its out of stock, it's the best mic for my ears. Thank you
Love the video, but can you make a video on the Zoom U22?
Wow! !`m just so impressed by how that Lewitts sound! Both of them! I`ve had Shure beta87c and i loved it. But Lewitts sound much more better. Weird, but such legendary mic as Neumann KMS105 doesn`t impressed me at all in this comparison, moreover, I`ve noticed a serious distortions on its sound. Rode and Audiotechnica are also not bad.
Hi, I’d be really interested to see a review of the Aspen Pittman DT1. There’re like no reviews of this mic.
For some reason in your other video "Is a $7000 mic worth it?" the sound of U87 and the kms105 sound a lot better brighter and clearer while here the lewitt sounds brighter and stronger than the neumanns. Could it be the mic position slightly different or the gain is different?
Hard to decide between this and Shure 87a. Looking for something to sing live on stage, which one has better feedback resistance?
I had a hard time picking a versatile mic. I just ordered the new Rode VideoMic NTG. I hope you can do a test on that mic.
He already did mate. Cheers.
The only thing that may be almost impossible to test in a studio - gain before feedback!
Podcastage you need to review the blue kiwi
Would it be possible to review the sE Electronics Voodoo Vr1? I want to buy a pair but there’s not a lot of reviews out there, everyone are using them as guitar amp mic, but they look awesome for everything!! Ah and nobody reviews mics as good as you! Haha
Sounds neat on the acoustic guitar and vocals 👌
Better on the vocals though.
Currently looking into getting a mic for gigs as I no longer want to share/use venues dirty mics with the pandemic n all that! Tempted to go for a SM58 but considering splashing out on the KSM8.... would love a review of one (SHURE SEND HIM A KSM8)
Rode M2 was the best and then Beta 87A! I keep the M2 at number 1 bcz it is more affordable than the Shure and sounds smoother and just as good!
I was scrolling through the comments and was like thank god some one else thinks that!
Thibaut Vandame yup i still do!
Great video. Very impressive for the price-point. Can someone please explain to me what the heck is MX cherry blue?
I have a question. Should I buy the blue yeti nano or the fifine k678
I dunno if it was me but at different times the mic sounded like you were in a hallway, it just sounded hollow at times. It did a good a job with handling so that is a plus.
So would you put the kms105 or the Lewitt mtp940? Only $100 difference.
You should check out the Lewitt MTP 550 DM (beautiful name, I know)
4 feet shot was great
Have you reviewed the Audio Technica ATM710 or Sennheiser e965?
ATM 710 is better IMO
Question: If I get very close to a condenser mic (the XLR one, with 48v phantom power turned on) does it electrocute me?
It should not.
shure Beta!
you maybe me laugh dude
wow your music sounds so much kooler with my new studio monitors and i mean that musicman, in love with that guitar
Hi, Bandrew. I have a question. Are you going to review your Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 at some point in the future? I would be very interested in this one. Thank you.
I don’t really have plans to do the 18i20 because the converters and preamps are the exact same as the 2i2 3rd gen. The only difference is the number of channels and I believe a few other features.
@@Podcastage OK, I see 😂. Thank you for your reply
I NEED HELP:). I don’t know much about microphones. I’m looking for a microphone for 1) voice-over on RUclips videos and 2) recording vocals and guitar. Which one should I choose? Dynamic or condensed? USB or XLR? And which brand?
Best
Martin
I dont know.
you're a really fast typer :)
Audio-Technica ATM710 Cardioid Condenser Handheld Microphone
Could you please make a review for this typical microphone. Does it work on Behringer umc 202 Hd audio interface?
Could you please also make handheld condenser microphones comparison.
Thank you.
Could you review Audio technica atm710? Same price, has 10db pad and HP filter and lower self noise. Would be an interesting comparison
The best mic ever!!I have ksm9,kms105 and e965.. ATM 710 just have that wow factor!
Their windscreens are fantastic. I use one on my mic that isn’t a Lewitt. Keeps the plosives down. Still need to repurchase the MTP 840 DM.
The Neumann sounded best, but for $700 it should be.
I am gonna buy MTP 840 DM too. It has so much articulation and it's mids are unreal. Even tho I love my Neumann KSM 105 now I use Lewitt MTP 550 DM for spoken word because it sounds more aggressive and has more articulation. Lewitt is the champ.
Flash Energy I’ll check one out.
You should compare this mic to Behringer's SB 78A. I think these are quite similar.
And just so imporatnt to know for liveshows how Lewitt is resistable to feedbacks... Does anyone know about this?
How do the mainstream mics sound after being processed by NVIDIA RTX Voice.
What mics can you recommend for higher pitch voices? Which of them can help to beefed up a voice?
this Lewitt will deffinetly sound great for such vocals, and Rode also good. But Lewitt`ll be better. Let mr notice, that neumann won`t be good for high pitch vocals, because it has serious distortion and a little nasal sound
I know you don’t normally review ribbons, but I’d love to hear your opinion on SE’s line of ribbon mics. They have a budget option as well as the voodoo v1 & v2. Love your videos, thank you for all the great info 👍🏻
I agree would like to second this request
What headphones do you usually use?
Lewitt is fantastic
3:30 ehh how do we treat the room so it sounds better?
Can you suggest..shoud i go for the Lewitt 350 cm, or, Audiotechnica at2010, or, Rode M2.
i have Lewitt 350 CM and I love it, I tried Rode M2 and it's trash
What was the distance between the acoustic guitar and the microphone
the sleeper pick of the bunch was definitely the se v7
4:24 -- 'Yeah.. one time... Two time!'
It is a very good mic. but it is not for everyone. I have used it a few times, and I found it absolutely most useful on female Vox ( Live ) Very good in regards to rejection from behind ( Loud fold-back is possible with no prob.)
Do you think this mic is usable to beatbox with it? Some event used the 940cm and the sound was great, but Im worrying that I could destroy the 350CM through the air pressure+moisture. If not it would be a crazy good option for my needs.
I don't know how this would hold up against beat boxing compared to the 940cm. It's designed for stage use so I imagine they have taken that into account, but I'm honestly not sure because it's not a field I record personally or anything. I bet an e-mail to Lewitt would be able to get you some answers though. You could probably ask them if the pressure & moisture of beat boxing would damage this mic. If you do find out, would love if you could leave a comment so other people know what the consensus is. Cheers Jean.
@@Podcastage Thank you! Just emailed them. Will keep you updated.
Would it be safe to say that the Lewitt MTP 350 is the "poor man's" Nuemann KMS-105? I have been looking for a cheap version of the Nuemann, and I think this is it. However, I am not sure if my ears are deceiving me because I have a bit of ear fatigue from too much listening.
If I remember correctly, I don't think they sound too similar.
I think you sounded best on the KSM, then the M2 slightly ahead of the 350, but those two are very close.
I have just bought this mic, it's a good mic I think, but the strange thing is that it doesn't matter if the on/off switch is engaged or disengaged it is engaged in both settings. I have to contact my dealer about this. Did anybody experience the same problem?
It sounds better to me than Sure 87a for singing, it could have more low-end and it will be perfect for me! Price is fully ok.
I have an sm58 and an me66 both have high noise floor using a Umc202hd and also an x1204 usb. I have tried multiple headphones and xlr cables. can someone please help me figure out what is wrong? to get a good signal out of the sm58 i have to swallow it and the me66 picks up absolutely everything even though it should be a shotgun mic...
In your videos there is never background noise. my mics all pick up my pc fans even though they are extremely quiet. HOW DO YOU DO THIS WIZARDRY
Bro, do you want to make a channel called "Bandrew sings"?
At least can someone do compilation of all his testing songs? Please! They are awesome!
Rode M2 is the one in this comparison!
