What a super cool thing to put in. It's definitely a wee bit more work than necessary, but that's why it's cool; having Noelle's goofier animations fade away and get more serious is the perfect way to subconsciously tell the player how much more detached and violent Noelle is getting. Big kudos to Toby and the team for stuff like this.
I feel like the work is justified, mainly because for the attacking and defending, if you only had 1 of them it wouldn’t work in the other route. Their personality changes so much because of snowgrave if they had cowardly animations it wouldn’t make sense. Likewise they wouldn’t have super confident and magical animations when they are still confused as to what on earth is happening.
What I think is scary is that she is ACTUALLY getting stronger Not just with her magic Just generally tougher. Plus she literally uses a wall of ice to defend herself that's as literal as you can get
That tracks with how Undertale interpreted levels. Getting stronger means becoming more detached from your emotional pain, and more willing to do violence to others.
Very minor (probably not even worth a video), but also Berdly gets some changes during the Snowgrave Route: his facial expression in battle is serious instead of smirking; this also includes when he transforms his halberd into a spear, and his weapon will lack its "eyes", until Noelle cast Snowgrave, which, together with Berdly, will look surprised.
Also, throughout the snowgrave route, Noelle’s “boldness” stat slowly rises from -12. I think once it passes 0 is when you get these animations. The more enemies you kill the higher Noelle’s boldness stat gets.
You get these animations after getting the freeze ring. Her boldness stat increases during a normal playthrough. It's the coldness stat that increases as you freeze enemies
Right. Boldness seems to represent how well a character can defy the SOUL's choices. Suzie has one of the highest Boldness stats and she consistently ignores the SOUL's choices. Meanwhile, Noelle starts with one of the lowest. It'd be weird if it started rising in the Weird Route considering it's the route she has the least amount of agency in.
@@Birthday888 That said, after she kills Berdly, she does basically say 'fuck this shit I'm out' and leaves the party, so she does defy the Soul at least once.

Poor Noelle Going from so innocent and confused that she swats at enemies To a dulled cryomancer brushing off hits like they they're not much (Guessing getting downed is the same in both?)
The snowgrave ones definitely show how much she changes while with Kris on the route, basically Kris (or well, us.) act sorta like a suppressant for the feelings of being weak that Noelle often has, as we make her stronger, she loses some emotion, becoming more powerful in the form of getting more health not just physically affect her but also mentally, and if we were to go over the top and command her to cast Snowgrave onto Berdly, we make her fully break mentally for a moment when it’s being casted, she basically walked away after the battle cause she was mentally exhausted and tired after casting that cause she mentally lost her mind for a moment while Snowgrave was being casted.
Here's another neat detail. On a Weird Route, Noelle's attacks will never miss. If you intentionally let her bar go all the way to the end, her attack will still land.
I am convinced that Noelle's response to the tragedy (whatever it was) was to be sad and afraid but she has the full capacity for a Chara-like response as shown in this route
Both are making Noelle stronger Both are making Noelle somewhat more "confident" Both gives her a new experience of life One makes her filled with overwhelming emotion, one numbs her emotion One is standing up herself (in the end), one is forced and brainwashed One is getting closer to know herself better, one is distancing herself to kill better
It’s so sad how taking damage barely bothers her in the snowgrave route. Probably because when you give her the thorn ring she constantly takes damage so she’s gotten used to it. It’s kinda horrible
Well that's the thing, she's not standing up for herself like she does in pacifist, she's being completely manipulated and brainwashed to do your every bidding. You're not empowering her (beyond making her physically and magically stronger), you're breaking her down even more than she already is
She seems a lot more confident in snowgrave but also more troubled and conflicted. I dont see why. She has ice magic. She can just freeze her troubles away. Enemy attacking? Freeze em! Got crippling debt? Freeze it! Feeling guilty because you may have ended many lives all at the request of some violent lunatic claiming to be your friend that you are too meek to stand up against? Just freeze it!
I haven’t really seen anyone talk about her “getting attacked” animations. In the normal route, she jumps back which is understandable. But in snowgrave, she flinches the tiniest bit. As if she’s almost...desensitised to being attacked....or maybe just accepts the pain.
She even said it. After a certain point, the battles were just blurring together. The pain stopped mattering as much. And after she got the Thorn Ring, she was in *constant* pain, so pain was just another inevitability.
Berdlys expressions also change in the snowgrave boss as well. His idle changes to a meaner face, which is very easy to spot. But what i find cool is how his expression during the halberd attack changes too. Usually, he charges the attack with a smirky face, but in snowgrave, its more fierce, like with the idle. A minor change, sure, but the fact it changes just adds onto the detail that was put into this route.
YOOOO the way she moves to get into battle position in snowgrave is so haunting, she moves like a ghost in a cold lonely night, not like the silly and hopelessly crushing girl we know. These details just make it all better
My favorite is her damage one showing a light flinch as she takes damage, showing how she is feeling stronger and less afraid of pain (or perhaps you could say more numb to it.) Idk it's interesting I like seeing Noelle more confident but just wish it didn't come at the cost of Birdly's life lmao.
As the route continued, the pain stopped mattering, and once she got the Thorn Ring, she was constantly in pain, so more didn't really change anything.
It's so eerie to see that noelle in snowgrave is looking at the menu (player's command) instead of the enemy in the normal route. Kind of shows what she fears/has her full attention more in both routes.
I love minor details like this that enforces whats happening. In the normal route she is goofy and timid. In the snow grave route she is more serious and is clearly becoming "stronger".
I think the ending the battle and defending one are the worst changes.. in the ending the battle it’s like a snow globe prison, one she has shook multiple times covering everything in snow but no matter how hard she shakes the prison won’t dissipate. I also think defending is pretty sad because of the way she is completely reliant on her magic as if she and it are separate beings with the magic being dominant and her nothing but a fragile puppet that needs protecting
I see it more as her accepting the true strength of her ice powers and letting it become a more firm part of her, and letting it block hits for her and fight for her with incredible strength instead of if she were to be fearful of it and try to avoid using it, which she does at first.
This is very relevant to undertale and deltarune's way of explaining lv and exp. our normal trio are characters who arent going to be effected by acting differently for different reasons; Kris is controlled by the player, susie has already hurt a lot of people so her lv and exp are high enough to where it doesnt effect her much, and Ralsei who knows they're facing darkeners and there actions have little significance or repercussions. Noelle, on the other hand, has probably never harmed a fly and doesn't know darkeners have less impactful lives. for al she knows, she just killed a real person, or at least badly hurt them, and that's something she won't ever be able to take back. also, about birdly, she probably thinks she killed him too. i find it unlikely that birdly would be truly killed by snowgrave, but if he is, that is something that will solidify these thoughts and darken her heart. all this, conveyed in subtle animation changes.

“I’ve made Noelle into a proper fighter!” “You fucked up a perfectly good cinnamon roll character is what you did. Look at them. They’ve got a demolished moral compass.”
I like how her animations change based on the route you're playing as if her very personality changed. Which it did. She went from being afraid of everything and being hesitant or afraid to attack to outright doing it like it's no big deal and not hesitating when given the order to attack. The only time she hesitated to attack was when Kris ordered her to attack Berdly with Snowgrave.
Hmm... while she's calmer in all her other animations, it looks like she's actually more fearful in her idle Snowgrave stance than she is in her idle normal stance. Her eyes shrink down which is usually animation shorthand for fear (the whole 'irises contract when frightened' thing).
Moderators are members of the Cerealnation discord server who have the ball-graver rank. Originally, they had orange names. This has been changed so that ballgravers can have color roles, but the color ballgraver orange still exists.
And remember: She only has true regret if she takes out Berdly. If she fails in any way, she has the kill count, the power, and potentially even Snowgrave, but is still the chipper girl next door.
The fact that Noelle is less worry in Snowgrave route than in the normal route really shows how she's getting stronger after freezing a lot of enemies. That's fucked up.

Good catch, I didn't notice that!
She literally having an existential crisis on SnowGrave route
But in same time, she adapt, get used to battle.
iwish more games did this, i want an rpg where you can mold the charicters to how you want, and see visible changes in their actions
man, some time if we get noelle as a party member again, I hope we get to see her gain some confidence (without forcing her to do horrible shit)
“I’ve made Noelle into a proper fighter!”
“You fucked up a perfectly good cinnamon roll character is what you did. Look at them. They’ve got a demolished moral compass.”
Can we all agree, that Noelle's normal route attack is cute 😁
Her Take Care X animation also changes on Snowgrave; she doesn't fall over anymore.
*Noelle cast SNOWGRAVE
🤨
Here you go friend
I like how her animations change based on the route you're playing as if her very personality changed. Which it did.
She went from being afraid of everything and being hesitant or afraid to attack to outright doing it like it's no big deal and not hesitating when given the order to attack. The only time she hesitated to attack was when Kris ordered her to attack Berdly with Snowgrave.
A reminder to treat your dear with love and care.
"Strength comes to those who grab for it..." - Blackmore, The Suffering: Ties That Bind
Hmm... while she's calmer in all her other animations, it looks like she's actually more fearful in her idle Snowgrave stance than she is in her idle normal stance. Her eyes shrink down which is usually animation shorthand for fear (the whole 'irises contract when frightened' thing).
It's the little details like this that make all the difference
Lv too is an acronym it stands for “Level of Violence”
The more you hurt others. The less it’ll hurt you.
0:17
Equipping the Thorn Ring drops Noelle’s health to 55. The Roman numeral for 55 is LV
@@Melonposting thorn ring is also probably pretty much a ring that stabs your finger and yet she wears it with no hesitation
The small details make great difference
We are literally getting to see the effects of the undertale genocide route from the third person
0:07 do you see that? it's like she's become used to being dragged around.
Lore of Animation changes in Deltarune Snowgrave route momentum 100
defending and winning
it’s the impossible to miss the difference between normal and snowgrave
Why is no one talking about the way she totally changes from starting a battle in complete fear to starting with that cold breeze animation...
The way she just moves into battle but you can't see her expression when an encounter starts is just, brutal.
I like to think that Noelle when attacking is launching some sort of icicle at the enemy
ngl her starting battle animation in snowgrave is pretty slick
Moderators are members of the Cerealnation discord server who have the ball-graver rank. Originally, they had orange names. This has been changed so that ballgravers can have color roles, but the color ballgraver orange still exists.
The snowgrave one looks like she is being dragged into the battle when it starts.
To be honest.. She looks cool in Snowgrave route
You can tell she's trying hide how much this actually hurts her just from her facial expression.
Poor,Poor Girl.☹
Also we gotta have more people commenting
i love babi burghli
And remember: She only has true regret if she takes out Berdly. If she fails in any way, she has the kill count, the power, and potentially even Snowgrave, but is still the chipper girl next door.
The fact that Noelle is less worry in Snowgrave route than in the normal route really shows how she's getting stronger after freezing a lot of enemies. That's fucked up.
i wish noelle always had her snowgrave defend animation
Thank you
in her snowgrave "end battle" sprite, the thing surrounding her looks a bit like a snowglobe.
i have no idea if anyone else noticed
i thought she was dabbing in the normal attack animation for a sec LOL
I didn't even notice her idle pose changes
Her snowgrave routw eyes makes her look psycotic O.o
Finally I actually get to see Noelle's normal attack animation
She looks worried
this is showing both an increase in strength, but more importantly an increase in confidence, which is a really cool detail
like- yeah this is absolutely horrible, but she _is_ still learning positive things from this... even though its morbid
