- The video is about Afton Canyon, a geological wonder located in the Mojave Desert of California. The canyon was carved out by the Afton River, which flows only during heavy rains. The river has created a series of spectacular waterfalls, narrow gorges, and towering cliffs. Visitors can hike or bike through the canyon, or take a scenic drive along its twisting roads.

I believe that pink gash mine on the hillside is called “arbuckle mine”. I’ve been all the way up, lots of cool old giant gears and other fascinating relics.
I have a question about Basin Road...can my AWD subaru take the road? With the water pond so deep at the BLM campsite, I was forced to bag the entire trip through the canyon. Next trip in February 2018, I plan to enter at Basin Road. Your thoughts?
Basin road should be fine.
Thank you for that information, Jim, really appreciate it.
That Subaru can get you ANYWHERE. I’ve seen stock subies in places my Jeep needed front and rear lockers to get to.
Cars cant swim. Yes this by-way looks interesting for rock hounding, birding, sun worship and camping I presume. BLM?
