An interesting interview, the book looks fascinating. I would also like to say, as a common ‘subject’ that King Charles III is in danger of pandering to the wrong sections of society. He was wrong not to invite them to the Coronation. It was mean and short sighted considering the service this family had given the royal family.
“To fill those seats with people who have done extraordinary things for our country.” Short sighted, I think is an understatement. I’m glad she wrote this book now while our memories are still fresh and her mother is still alive. Of course no one is perfect but the King, I think, is seeking approval from places maybe better left untouched. I agree with your points.

Wonderful interview. I am sure the mother of the author, India Hicks, is quite a lady and that her life story will be fascinating to read. I would like to make one comment, however, about the age the late Queen when she embarked upon her first Commonwealth tour. She was not so young as 22. She was 25, having already given birth to both Charles and Anne by that time. This was focused on years later when Prince Charles and Diana embarked upon their first Commonwealth tour where Diana insisted on taking William with them. This was in contrast to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip leaving their young children at home for the 6 months the tour took; with their nanny. Those tours would’ve been absolutely grueling, as Ms. Hicks has said, but fortunately she was young enough to be able to enjoy herself at every juncture. Since there were no children to worry about, I’m sure the events were more relaxing.
