Almost negligible comments here suggest that the people at large and surprisingly teaching community has no interest in such debates thus contribution in terms of comments.
Salute to these proffessors participants who want to do good for higher education inspite of so heavy odds

Agree, but it looks that it became more and more kind of genetic problem, and it overshaowed Indian muslims too, when religious scholers shout as hard as possible that we do not need Doctors, scientists,we need mullahs and moftis and people go along with them because of fear that mullahs creat.it is nearly impossible to reform, they tried centuries ago by mutazelas, but history shows what happened to them, nowadays some islamic countries did try, like turkey, but now turkey is on way back,UEA is doing, but as long oil and gas are there,

Most developed nations teach their children in their mother tongue languages as the medium of instruction, which is lacking in Pakistan and India. Scientifically, it is best to provide primary and secondary education in their local languages.

I am from India and I agree Pakistan has potential, but in order to uplift Pak economy their leaders have to take bold decision such as create a terror free ecosystem which allow foreign companies to invest in Pak, attract tourists and conducting international sports events specially cricket and I believe these will help employment generation and eventually economy will grow. All the best.

The basic problem with Pakistan is with such a strong and rigid clergy who have ganged up with politicians and military who wants to keep people uneducated so none can question their decisions for a good education you need to build a complete ecosystem where critical thinking is developed which normally takes 4-5 decades to build

People need to get first thing clear : all race and every human on earth are equally capable. It is only attitude which makes the difference. So it is not about people capacity in india vs china vs pakistan vs American. Just an attitude.
I must say even though India still poor but even poor indian attitude towards educating their child is extraordinary. We are still poor nation but attitude towards education is really very positive

"Fine sentiments." Fine suggestions." "Fine observations." "Fine insights." All are thrown in English with an accent impossible to bear. "Academic freedom?" The bearded man goes on throwing all these noble sentiments without a sense of violation. Has he forgotten the absurdity of his suggestions? He is dumping all those fine sentiments in a military state within a state. The largest province of this failed and bankrupt state operates in a Killing Field. To bring up the subject of "Missing Persons" is to court violent death. Expecting academic freedom in an Evil State? Call the barber. Make an appointment. Shave and shower. Spare the polity of Muslims. Let them keep discovering the new rock bottom.

The moderator speaks well but why so many “sort of”s? They dont add anything to the content but can distract the audience. Reg Dr. Aseem Sajjad, his speech and his regular columns are evidence for his high intellect. Yet, I was shocked to see that he is still an Assistant Professor. You mean to say they are better and more qualified people than him at LUMS? Believe me when I say that he could walk into any top humanities program in the US and become a full Professor.

The only federal university of Pakistan "Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and technology" has most brutal economic and administrative problems. BS and MS holders are teaching as assistant professor. What happened to this country? What knowledge can deliver a BS holder even he has no research publications and experiences. ???
The HODs, Registrar, VC were/are recruiting their favorite and relatives. Nepotism and favoritism is on its peak. No graduation ceremony has been conducted since 2013 omg 😭.
At least if they can't produce a quality graduates then let the students to get entertained those graduation ceremonies. Degrees and transcripts are conferred after 2 years. 3rd semester students get their 1st semester results.

This was an eye opening discussion - The creme de la creme of the country talking about the state of higher education in fake foreign accents throwing shallow jargon with absolutely no understanidng of higher education or teaching and learning in general. The quality of higher education in Pakistan can be gauged from the superficial level of this discussion. If these people are looking after the education sector in pakistan then there is no hope in the near future.
