His dad (a Chelsea supporter) used to work at Cartwright Hall in Bradford, and regularly took him to matches just down the road to Valley Parade. It's one of the main locations in Happy Valley, which also filmed in Bradford, Halifax, and other areas of Calderdale.

I moved to Japan in 2005 and have visited the UK randomly over the last 19 years but this year I visited in both February and April for family reasons, prior to that was pre COVID, and something has really changed in those 3-4 years. I saw people stealing on numerous occasions, sometimes filling up bags and just walking out of a B&M, people are generally aggressive and moody or just rundown and tired. Even the small village I come from has seen a huge increase in crime including a murder recently... when I left, someone stealing from a garage or a minor road accident was the biggest news.. now it's crime daily.. I feel like England is just in disarray and agree that people are being sold a lie that the UK as a whole is a great place to live as freedoms, services and our savings are slowly eroded.
The best interview I have seen in a very very long time. What a change to hear someone talking plain English and not afraid to say what he thinks. Great questions from you too Charlie a real nice style allowing things to flow. Well done. All the best to Nick hope he gets the gig.

Nick was 100% correct about council service managers / directors , I worked for social services for 37 years working with people with disabilities , when I first started working 1980's anyone who was a manager was time served & knew how to do the job with there eyes closed. In times of staff shortages they could roll up their sleeves & get stuck in. Through the 90's to present day things changed , unskilled people were employed as managers/ directors , with no understanding of the service users , their needs or wishes . One manager didn't even know what we did as a job & used to turn green at the thought of us (carers) having to wipe someones bum or change someone who had ,had an accident!!! , another manager used to refer to our clients as "those people" Managers / directors were on £50 - £100 k , they didn't care about service users or service providers , they ran the departments as a business without any care about who they hurt or destroyed. Rant over.
Says all the right things but the trouble is that I've seen happen all too often is they usually do a U turn once in power. Would like to be proven wrong on this one.
