The depth of you reviews continues to be unsurpassed! No other reviewer would dig that deep to find out where the prints for the multiplane camera were from, bravo!!!
It's so interesting how something like a Reddit post with the wrong answer makes it through the entire design process and senior level review before going on the market. Ouch. Cool set though.
As someone who's been involved in traditional animation, I find the multiplane camera setup a brilliant way of setting this set apart from a generic 'cinema ' display. Even if the final depth effect is less visible than we'd like, it's an accurate rendition of the device (those things were really clunky). Considering Lego's pricing lately, this build seems a surprisingly fair deal. Wouldn't mind to see this price ratio in more sets. Thank you for your quality reviews, Jang!
I think Lego is doing a better job of celebrating 100 years of Disney than Disney is! I finally understand now why this is sold out in practically every store around me. I didn't want this before, but now I do. Thanks Jang!
I'm not much of a Disney fan, but I do really like this! And the price seems fine too. Just one thing that strikes me as kinda weird: Why a camera on a tripod to celebrate animated film? It obviously makes for a good display piece, but how cool would it have been if they had made a big scale multi plane camera?
I think that figure is a pretty good representation of Walt Disney during the first feature films like Snow white. So not a perfect match for the Mickey Mouse younger Walt! I think the main limiting factor is the hair, but a speacialst piece just for Walt Disney is unrealistic. If I was Disney I would’ve asked for a 50s “Uncle Walt” style figure (and I 100% believe Disney asked for exact figures BTW this is a Disney product first and a Lego one second) but I think that figure might be reserved for another Disneyland set in the future
My wife thought this set was pretty neat and she’s not really into Lego. Bought it for $80, Built it,and put it on top of my bookshelf over the movie section. It does look high end. The funny thing is the animators had to teach Walt how to draw Mickey Mouse when fans eventually started asking him for a sketch because Walt wasn’t an artist. I saw some comments saying they should have made a set that gave more credit to the animators and I had to laugh. That’s like Steve Jobs standing on the stage by himself when he introduced the iPhone even though there were hundreds of people involved in its development. Or Stan Lee getting all the credit for creating Spider-Man and the Marvel universe even though artists like Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby were a huge driving force behind the stories and success of those characters.
Re: the film strip element, It's bugging me that the artwork for the "sprocket holes" doesn't line up with the frames. That would have been easy for them to research too.
That is such a great replica of an old film camera. I love it. Oh the multi-plane thing is awesome! Dumbo is great. Always loved Dumbo ever since I was a kid. Bambi and Walt are good too.
This is a stunning set, a magnificent display piece. I'm not really into Disney. I used to watch their films when I was younger, but as I got older I moved away from them and haven't really gone back. This set though is a wonderful tribute to Disney. You can clearly tell there's been a lot of care and attention into this set. It's a tempting purchase.
I honestly think Disney lacks creativity that they used to have. There are now hardly, if any new movies that aren't remakes anymore. I do think a new animated Mickey Mouse movie with a different art style would be really cool.
Jang, great review and sound demo! Very smart set. And here we are - 100€ Disney camera set with 5 figs, new molts, prints, secrets, etc. versus 150€ Disney coruscant gunship with 5 standard figs, stickers, disfunction, emptyness, etc. I feel a great disturbance in the force ..
havent checked in on your vids in a while, but the consistent quality of your videos always makes it a joy to return to the channel. Id also like to say that the beard looks great on you. Keep up the good work!
I think this one needs some adjustment to improve it. If the lenses can be seen through as a really camera, may be we can use it as a projector. The four picture screens can be used.
Great looking set. That tidbit at the end about the incorrect reddit post as the source was funny to me, but not in a "haha" sort of way. All these consistent quality control issues, or product inaccuracies in the backdrop of their price hikes are just sort of rubbing me the wrong way. It's like they are saying "we are the best, you know it, we can do the bare minimum and you will buy our stuff anyways." Just not loving the vibes of those sort of super basic errors that they seem to make ALL the time
my older sister loves disney and I got her into Lego and now youve given me the perfect birthday/christmas gift idea. Thank you so much Love the vids as always Jang. you get a comment and like for the YT Algorithm gods.
Fantastic review! You seem to know a bit about filmmaking and/or animation yourself. Was this from research into this set and for this video, or do you have some background in this field? Either way, I loved seeing all those moving parts of the set explained!
I like the set but I dont care for the ip. I would have liked it to be the same camera but with a strip of old public domain movies like Metropolis or Nosferatur for 60 bucks
Wow these details you can't see from the box and images really did sell this to me. I will want to get this asap since there is some discount to be found at the moment. Thank you for the review and video JANG! You helped me again in a decision making process.
Maybe it's just hard to capture Walt Disney's facial features in Lego form. I'll be honest, that face actually would work really well for Howard Stark (Tony Stark's father).
They really should’ve included either a longer film strip or have two included to fit the different generations of movies. Not having Aladdin or Hunchback is an incredibly baffling omission.
I want that Walt Disney figure, would be good for a New Vegas (Mr House) or Bioshock (Andrew Ryan) figure. Could even make a Vince McMahon character out of it 😂
Incorrect Info Yep....this is why back in school the teachers would Not Allow public forums like Reddit or Wikipedia to be cited as Sources for papers.
no. black hands in Steamboat Willy (1928), Plane Crazy (1928), Gallopin Gaucho (1928),The Barn Dance (1929). first white gloves in The Opry House (1929).
Seeing this is a homage set and their minifigs are made in black and white, I reckon they are rendered in their first incarnations, eg. as in Steamboat Willie. They didn't have their iconic white gloves yet at that time, so black hands are accurate 🙂
I wonder if they considered a light brick for the multi-plane setup? As a perfectionist (to a point), the info about the Reddit “research” done makes me die inside a little bit. Lego needs a quality team that sets must pass through for things like source material details. USC display plaques, I’m looking at you.
It’s a really interesting set in terms of new memorabilia, but I’m really not sure the actual piece is compelling enough. Though I’m probably enough of a Disney fan
This set turned out much better than I thought it would. Tbh, I found the concept of this set rather boring, but kudos to Lego for adding those clever features that really bring this set to life. It's a shame about that ridiculous reddit blunder, though. Whomever dug up that info should have been well aware that when it comes to general information, you never take what you read online at face value. Always double check and triple check your sources.

My gosh, the multi-plane camera setup fills my heart with joy.

Disney produced many non-animated films
Animated films are still done by camera, just one frame at a time
Got this for Christmas from my wife and kids. Truly humbled.

I knew I was gonna like this. It makes for a great display piece, imo
4:55 as an animator, THANK YOU for this. Lotte Reininger doesn't get nearly enough credit

Why can't Lego just make those blue pieces different colors?
I think I agree with you about the multi-plane camera. When you exposed it I actually blurted out "The Multi Plane Camera!". Genius.
Excellent review.
Re: the film strip element, It's bugging me that the artwork for the "sprocket holes" doesn't line up with the frames. That would have been easy for them to research too.
It’s somehow both larger and smaller than I expected. Love the planes!
That is such a great replica of an old film camera. I love it.

Dumbo is great. Always loved Dumbo ever since I was a kid. Bambi and Walt are good too.

Had no idea it actually made a sound. Completely changed my mind about whether or not I want to buy this.
I don't know how many times Ive watched the multiplane camera video documentary - atonishing to see it exactly in a lego set!
Is the old mill about animals living in an old mill during a storm and without dialogue? That was my favorite shortfilm when I was a kid.
That's the one! An Oscar winner too.
What would’ve been cool is upon looking into view finder , a picture or still of one of the movies .
Jang, great review and sound demo! Very smart set.

The Bambi mold is really excellent

Man I have to look at mine, mine doesn’t click nearly that loud when I crank it.
Been waiting all week for this review ! Can’t wait to get it 👊
Very cool display piece i have it next to my UP house
I was fortunate to findvthis at my local Costco for $80 USD on September 12. Started building it that night. Should finish it up tonight.
Love the inclusion of the Oxberry Camera and Uncle Walt, very classy set. OoO
I actually expected it to have a lighting and projector glow in the dark effect . Still a great piece.
my older sister loves disney and I got her into Lego and now youve given me the perfect birthday/christmas gift idea. Thank you so much Love the vids as always Jang. you get a comment and like for the YT Algorithm gods.
I honestly don't like anything new from Disney in the past few years, but I do like this.
Fantastic review! You seem to know a bit about filmmaking and/or animation yourself. Was this from research into this set and for this video, or do you have some background in this field? Either way, I loved seeing all those moving parts of the set explained!
Lights, Camera, LEGO!!!!

It looks like Dumbo's trunk has the right connection point to attach a black quill piece to represent his magic feather. Odd that it's not included.
Great review, thank you!
I just built this. The cranking mechanism doesn’t make that sound… I wonder why?
Howard Stark minifigure
Maybe it's just hard to capture Walt Disney's facial features in Lego form. I'll be honest, that face actually would work really well for Howard Stark (Tony Stark's father).
Beautiful, love the set and brilliant insights jang❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh, I am so buying this! How lovely is that!
This set is amazing! One of the best sets this year
You can find this set in Europe for €85, which seems like a really good deal
The list of Patreons at the end is in reverse alphabetical order. Has anyone noticed?
Can it tilt and pan? Or is it fixed in this position?
after this review... I want this set!
Costco has it for $80-$85 in the USA and the Honey cashback app will give you $14 back when buy from LEGO.
It's a great build but i HATE how Dumbo and Bambi are here and not in theri propper playsets...
They really should’ve included either a longer film strip or have two included to fit the different generations of movies. Not having Aladdin or Hunchback is an incredibly baffling omission.
Or Lady and the Tramp or Dalmatians or Tarzan. But yeah, Rescuers, of course.
or Emperor's New Groove
Treasure Planet and Meet the Robinsons would also have been cool, but those ones seem to have fallen into obscurity
Or Chicken Little
@@VorpalSlade not even the good rescuers movie!
absolutely bonkers
I want that Walt Disney figure, would be good for a New Vegas (Mr House) or Bioshock (Andrew Ryan) figure. Could even make a Vince McMahon character out of it 😂
I thought this was nice when I saw it. After your review though… it is now a must buy.
Another thing I can blame reddit for.
That walt disney is a perfect howard stark lol
My wife picked this set up for me from Costco for $80!

Beautiful set.
Nice set. Shouldn't Mickey and Minnie minifigs have white hands, though?

Great set to see. Wont buy it, but that doesnt mean I dont like it. Watching this tempts me to buy it anyway, but need my money for other stuff atm.
The Lego Walt Disney looks like Mr House from Fallout New Vegas.
@9:50 - I wouldn't be surprised if the mis-googling was actually done by someone at Disney.
I wonder if they considered a light brick for the multi-plane setup?

Looks amazing awesome review
I will take two
I am totally not into Disney. I don’t like the movies. But this
is my set of the year from Lego!
Please tell me Dumbo can hold a feather.
i would love a set just like this but without the disney stuff
Really? They couldn’t make it tilt or pan? Sad.
$80 at costco!
100 years of corporate greed! 🥳🎆 It’s a well-designed set but it’d be much better if it was rereleased as a standard non-Disney version
Hello
I recently read through the illusion of life. It's incredible what disney was, but to me it also represents how far its fallen.
It’s a really interesting set in terms of new memorabilia, but I’m really not sure the actual piece is compelling enough. Though I’m probably enough of a Disney fan
Of course it costs 100, it just had to

If this wasn't Walt Disney, if this was like, Spielberg, or Lucas, or Stan Lee, I would buy it in a hear beat.
Hello :)
Too bad Walt Disney was a digusting and awful person, otherwise a cool set
