the crusade was such a brave album to release after ascendancy. people need to start realizing this.
Watching this in 2019 feels like hearing Metallica in their 80 era.
There's a vibe of James Hatfield voice in there.
Such an underrated album. Its honestly my 2nd favorite, only below Shogun. In fact, the only weak song on the album to me is And Sadness Will Sear, because it is musically boring to me. Every other song was absolutely fantastic. My personal favorites are Becoming The Dragon, To The Rats, Detonation, and Unrepentant. Its such a shame that so many people dickride Ascendancy, because they become blind to how great of albums The Crusade and Shogun are.

metalfreekz13 you're not wrong about it being a great album, technically of course 2nd to Shogun. However, Ascendancy was the really Epic and melodic album, it was the album that snapped harder than all the rest, in regards to popularity. For most of us it was our first Trivium album aside for all the lucky folks to first find them locally with the demo's or of course Ember To Inferno. It's not Dick riding.
People don’t like this album because it didn’t seem like a trivium album. It seemed like a Metallica album. It was an awesome thrash metal album that I love and so do a lot of people, but metal elitists are the absolute worst and judged the hell out of it.
The Crusade was awful. Fucking awful. It even holds the song the band (or Matt at least) thinks is the worst song ever written by them. Each to their own. Dick riding Ascendancy? Because it was the album that put them on the fucking map, literally blew the band the fuck up, they're as big as they are now because of that album, and you should respect it purely for that fact alone if you like the band, regardless if you think its overrated, which in all fairness it may be. That said, I personally find it hard to decide if i think Ascendancy or Shogun is their best album now days, I'm honestly leaning to Shogun, that album was fuckin great and i really under appreciated how good it was when it came out, i was still salty about how awful, repetitive and honestly lazy The Crusade felt as an album. It was literally "Trivium Goes 80's Metal With No Actual Creativity At All". Terrible release, if you think otherwise i personally think you're batshit crazy. But thats just me. And for anyone thinking i hate every last song on The Crusade i dont at all. But its was literal shit when you compare it to any other Trivium release.

BEST BAND TO EXIST!, ROADRUNNER, listen up... there's talk of you guys making your bands more mainstream, making bands go the way they don't want to, not getting what they deserve, and basically making the bands end up what they originally shouldn't be, dont mess with trivium.. let them do what they want to... if they want to go heavier, then fuck yes! let them do it!, let them do what they want!, have a good day :)

About 14 months ago while living in Santiago, Chile, I came upon this video, it was the first song off The Crusade that I really gave a chance (I had been told about it sounding too much like Metallica). It was so epic that I actually BOUGHT IT ON ITUNES!!! I was that desperate to have this song on my iPod. I wonder when wrting the song the guys are like "and at 1:27 onward we just tear this universe a new asshole." Thats my story and I'm sticking too it, enjoy...

Kinda. It’s really about Japanese myths and how koi would have to make their way up an impossible climb to transform themselves into greater beings. Where do you think they got ideas for Pokémon?!?
This used to be my least favorite album. Now this is light years ahead of Vengeance Falls or Silence in the Snow

If you look closely, Matt Heafy is making where the video is being filmed spontaneously combust.
As far as I'll go to comparing them to Metallica, is simply proclaiming them as a modern day version. Their lyrical content, vocals, and time signatures are styled completely different with a more aggressive tone.

Its not the comparison but more the total tone,feel and possible inspiration for the way Matt sings. Metallica is a great band to look up to, and you can definitely hear the Metallica influences in some of their earlier songs.

Good song, just not as good as some other stuff. I want see some Trivium that's heavy as The Ascendancy and has the balls and catchyness of Shogun. Hoping this next record's gonna be sick. I have high expectations for these guys.

The Crusade was Master of Puppets 0.5. Thankfully they redeemed themselves with Shogun. History does repeat, though, and In Waves was their worst release to date. Hopefully their next album will be worth listening to.

@ILOVEREEB But comparing Matt Heafy's voice to James Hetfield's voice (circa 1986) is a fair comparison. If anything, Heafy sounds even better than James Hetfield did in his 20s.

OK, it's not bad, and the middle part was pretty sick, but seriously, they've never learned how to play decent solos that weren't just mindless shredding. They need to listen to more Alex Skolnick, Adrian Smith, and Marty Friedman solos.
