Hey! Swede here- thought id try and clear this up: Swedish Isbar and swedish Silverudd blue are different breeds. You have the Silverudd blue there. For a while there was confusion and the name isbar was used for both breeds (and commly still is, especially in america it seems) but the swedish breeding association did some years ago go out and try to clear it up- saying the official name of theese are Silverudd after the creator, and the truly barred chicken that existed at the same time was/is the Isbar. The cultural-hen-association in sweden says the Isbar was created around the same time, and that there was probably some Silverudd blue in there, and since there has been some confusion my guess is more silverudd blue was mixed in along the way. But again, different breeds. Per today Isbar is truly rare and endangered, - there is only a few registrerd chicken populations of what they think was the original true Isbar in sweden. Im not really sure if you can call either a true heritage chicken - i guess it depends on how you define it. They are both failry new hybrid breeds (ca 100+ years) based on, amongst other things, some common egglayers and cream legbar. Silverudd blue is still a truly special, cool chicken (definetly worth preserving) and definetly still not very common. Im not sure it is true it is endangered anymore as it is gaining popularity (although populations tracked in the breeding books in SWE are not very many).

Dang I should have looked here first. I have some fertile hatching eggs coming in the mail from someone on ebay… but I live in California. Shorter shipping would have been better, or even pickup might have been a possibility. Oh well. Such cool birds I hope mine hatch successfully. Love the speckling on that one. I’m going to have to keep you in mind for the future. Thanks for sharing about this breed.

@@ShakiraYah well I actually it turned out that most of the eggs that were shipped to me did not appear to be fertile. Out of twelve, only three developed at all, and only two made it to hatch. A hen and a roo. The roo is white with black splash, and the hen is a silver grey with a couple thin black stripes on a feather or two. She is my friendliest bird and likes to be held, and will try to perch on me if I let her. Comes straight to me every-time I go out to the coop.
The eBay seller I bought from obviously sent a lot of infertile eggs.
Definitely going get some from @alchemistfarm at some point as I’m interested in the breed, and live within a few hours.

The Shetland is a Pure breed that naturally lays a green egg, check out Shetland Isles, these chickens are a landrace breed, they are believed to have originated when Spanish ships ran aground off the Shetland Isles in the 1600's and the chickens on these ships bred with local chickens to naturally over time become a pure breed. They are now extremely rare.
