@@icarusflight2396 it's the frequency - not the volume - the audio channels are limited to -4.5 DB and compressed - so I think it's the range of frequency more than the intensity - and I don't know how to do anything about that unfortunately.
A video compairing comp vs ports on Atlas guns. How could this get better? Oh by also bringing the XC for comparison. Bonus, you don't get 100+ comments asking you to compare them to the XC. Everyone wins.
I have to speak out against this video. I HAD an Atlas Athena. I had nothing but malfunctions with it with different ammo. It didn't like my carry ammo, Underwood Ammo +P 90gr moving at 1475 ft/sec. I sent the gun back at least 3 or 4 times to no avail. Finally I sold it and was glad to get rid of it. Then I bought a Staccato XC. It is magical! I carry it and it loves my carry ammo. Keep your Atlas guns and I hope they don't give you issues. As for me and my house, I will stick to the Staccatos. They are better because they work. They are more rugged and Staccato customer service is second to none. I now have four Staccatos. I have had my Staccato P heritage ported by Vulcan Machine Works and it is almost as good as the XC. So don't be so dismissive of the XC. I have had no issues with the Staccatos and have thousands of rounds through the XC. There really isn't much difference between the XC and the Atlas except price, oh and reliability.
I had similar experience. I bought Staccato first and was impressed with the 2011 platform. I then went straight to Erebus. The pistol just wasn’t performing, malfunctioning all the time. I sent it back 2 times and asked Atlas to take apart the pistol, check the spec, and replace the extractor. While waiting for the repair, I also asked them to coat the barrel and fix a cosmetic issue. 3 months later, I got erebus back, the warranty work is perfect. However, It still doesn’t like Wincester NATO ammo but otherwise performs ok with other brands. But I can accept that. My take on highend 2011 is that they are hit or miss. Highend 2011s are handfitted so QC issues are more common.
@@MrZhaokuo1225I thought the QC would be better since it’s hand fitted meaning they would take a closer look at the gun so there’s no issue 🤷🏻♂️, must be very disappointing to have a high end gun only to have malfunctions hopefully I don’t have any of those issues.
Humble.....psssshhh! Just joking. I ain't mad at ya! It's awesome that you got companies sending you such high end guns to review. I'll never afford any of them, but i love watching your videos on them. Keep up the great work!
Great video, total dad here in Georgia, always enjoy your videos, I shoot a good bit of local IDPA, just for fun, staccato P, would totally love an Atlas
The grip has interchangeable panels on both models. So you can them flat, palm swell or stepped and you can get them in brass to add weight. Its really very cool.
Yes and if you order either one directly from Atlas, you can choose whichever upgraded panels you want at no extra cost and they also still include the flat panels at no additional cost. Otherwise, you'll pay for them later if you decide you want them. I thought that was pretty cool of Atlas to do.
The ported Eos is one hell of a good lookin edc on paper. I’d love to see what you think about it in person. Hope you’re having a good weekend, Marksman 🫡
Damn those are some stunning blasters sir! I think you had the same thought I had recently on the double stacks; a staight 1911 grip that is fat is not as good as one like Atlas, MPA, or Cheely with that ergo hump like a CZ/Beretta hump interesting. Thanks for the video killer XC grip enhancement she is hawt.
I own the Erebus and a Ares ported Athena that is tuned (which is essentially an Apollo. Or rather the Apollo is a ported and tuned Athena). I have owned the XC (and kind of miss it) and i shoot every weekend with a friend with a vey tricked out XC (steel Cheely grip, Infinity internals). I couldn’t agree more with this description. Ports are NOT better than compensators on this comparison. But they ARE pretty close. The thing I noticed the most is the minuscule difference between the triggers. While they’re both 1.5-1.6 pounds on the Lyman gauge, my Athena breaks slightly easier. My Erebus has slightly more pre travel. Neither is suffering.
I own all three of these guns and I couldn't agree with you more. I've also updated the grip and the trigger on my XC and it still doesn't reach the heights of the Erebus.
In terms of aesthetics I might be in the minority but for me Staccato's just look better than Atlas Guns. Mainly the grip modules. That said the bbq analogy works. But I'd almost go this route. It's like a truck, let's say an F150. The Atlas guns are like a Platinum or limited trim. You get the functionality of a truck but the refinement and luxury options. The Staccato I'd say is a raptor. Made for more rugged use IE duty use. This video was super cool to watch and see how each gun compares.
The conclusion was exactly what i predicted. As to the grip, being as how they take the same mags, couldn't you just swap them? I'll take the comp every time.
7:09 the difference is the the smaller slide one preforms equal 🟰 to the longer solids one. To carry train and do matches with id take the smaller one if it is perceived to feel like the longer one .
Love the videos, David. What's your opinion on the Prodigy's new Underworld comp compared to Springfield's new built in comp? Even further, What would you buy for competition purposes? I was thinking the 4.25 prodigy with the Underworld comp or just get a 5" with built in comp. Whichever one would be cheaper to get ahold of.
the only division a comp'd prodigy is competitive in is IDPA Carry Optics. In USPSA a regular 5" prodigy built up with ignition kit and a mag well is actually a pretty decent platform
It’s like u read my mind, I have been wondering which shoots flatter between ported and comped. Wouldnt comped be harder to clean compared to ported? I know ported can get dirty fast but should be easier to clean than comp right?
Depends on the ammo you shoot - great ammo like JHP reloads only deposit carbon in comps which is pretty easy to get out - poly coated will deposit coating in the comp and that’s kind of tough plated are no go in ports. Port guns need the barrel cleaned more regularly than comps do
It would have been a better showcase of the Atlas pistols if you would have corrected the zero for yourself... But i completely understand why you didn't being respectful to the owner.
looks like it was fun day for you. Question do you record yourself and watch to see how your doing if so what are you looking for will ya humble with a answer
In matches and slow motion for gun stabilization - yes. Slow motion I look for turbulence and bounce as the slide closes - in matches it’s how quickly I get one action off after the last one - movement efficiency - posture height
Like for the like god! Comments for the comment throne! Honestly I am so automatically biased against anything named Erebus that if I was going to go for either of them, I would go for that Apollo. But the Erebus does look better.
I don't get your issue with AAC ammo, I have purchased and shot a lot of it. It fires when I pull the trigger. Supposedly you what hotter ammo when you shoot comped gun according to several other of your videos. So what is your issue with AAC?
In my humble opinion, unless you just want the flex saying you own an atlas or have the cash to burn the staccato XC is the best bang for your buck. Over 4,000 rounds, no malfunctions, gun shoots very flat and is my duty gun. Now my opinion might be bias because I’m a poor and can’t afford an atlas but there gets a point of diminishing returns and I wonder if you can feel the difference for the price.
You can feel a difference, as far as quality and machining goes. But actually running the gun? No, not at all. A comped 2011 feels like a comped 2011, which is to say awesome haha
Ehh… I’ll stick with my supped up Honda civic (Glock 48) for EDC and my ford pick up truck (beretta 92) for getting work done. I can’t afford your supper cars :(
You chose the Erebus because it fits what you do and that being competition bruh. I have an Apollo on order, my neighbor has the Erebus and we are going to battle you better believe that. Work on your flexibility a little so when you are on that course you will have a better out come bruh. I have no choice but to deal with your opinion and decision over the Apollo... 😎

There’s really no reason to ask this question. It’s been well known since the beginning of comps and ports that ports are better.

What is back boring? Does that mean the ports are machined into the barrel before rifling?
