- Today we're going to look at the Lock Leather Holster from Urban Carry for the Walther PPQ SC. There are some definite pluses and minuses. Hopefully you enjoy the video and I'll let you decide if the holster is a good option for you.
Update 01/27/2021 I reached out to Urban Carry just to make sure that I had ordered the correct holster. They responded that yes in fact it was the correct model for my gun and that it is normal for part of the trigger guard to not be covered. their stance is as long as the actual trigger is covered then it is a proper fit. Just letting you guys know.
I've had my lock-leather for only a few months now. It's very comfortable and its like a glove. I had my doubts regarding the locking system. Turns out it works great.
The LockLeather is a great holster. It really is. I love the thing.
It's well made, it just doesn't fit every gun as well as some. That happens with "Semi-universal" holsters. I appreciate you watching.
I’ve got 4 of the lock leather holsters and love them. Once broken in and properly adjusted they all retain very well, and draw with a smooth tug. Very well made in USA, and great customer service.
They are well made. Some guns fit better than others in them which is always the case with semi universal holsters.
@@defensedad true. But it appears that Urban Carry is a bit different. I didn’t know that until I realized that the same holster part number ordered from them are very different. Case in point, I own a Bersa Thunder .380, and a Walther ppk/s. Very similar with the exception of the trigger guard. They both have the same holster part number, but both are molded different, and neither of my guns can be exchanged between the holsters. If switched, they simply will not fit! It appears they mould the holster to the gun, and place the Kydex lock in position to accept the similar form, but very different trigger guards in a custom manner. No kidding!
I have one and it fits my gun well. I like it but I can understand why some people wouldn’t. But through personal experience I like it.
I carry a Smith Shield Plus in mine and I love the holster. I've had it a year now, and have it on almost every day. Its a well made holster, and fits the shield well. It also fits high and tight to your body with comfort. Best holster I have had for carrying the shield.
It's good quality, just as a universal type holster it fits some models better than others. Thanks for watching!
Got one for an M&P 2.0 5" works great, covers trigger, leather has held up phenomenal, looks good. I quite like it.
Some guns they fit better than others as is the case with a lot of "universal holsters". If I'm being honest as though I'm having better luck with my recent purchases from versacarry.

Now like I told affordable Armory though. In their defense they do use a sizing system so that holster may very well fit another gun much better than it does mine. That's why I didn't give them a completely bad review.

Wet mold the holster and it will be fine. There is no need for the rear portion of the trigger guard to be covered as nothing can happen by pulling the trigger forward. It the gun is set too deep into the holster, it can make it difficult to get a good accurate purchase on the grip.
Appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately wet molding wouldn't change the issue. The trigger lock is at a set depth and for my PPQ SC it just hangs more of the trigger guard out than I care to have exposed. Thanks for watching though.
The trigger guard on a holster is there to prevent accidentally snagging the trigger and causing the gun to go off. It’s not necessarily to prevent someone intentional pulling the trigger on purpose. Over all good review though
Thanks for watching. I showed me intentionally pulling the trigger just to show people how easy it was for something to actually get in the trigger with this holster. It's hard to see but actually the back half of the trigger shoe is still exposed when it's holstered with this particular gun.
I sent mine back for my M&P 9 2.0 compact. You could actually see the trigger when it was holstered. Kinda freaked me out so I gave it a no go. Which is a shame cuz it really looked like it was made from quality materials.
Beautiful holster, fit my M&P 380 EZ very well, great retention, BUT didn't work for me. I'm 5'4" 145 lbs and it just printed too much for me AIWB, even with the single stack pistol. Great Customer Service, highly recommended.
Had mine for a week the fit is very tight should loosen up I can’t get my finger in the trigger seems like a nice holster
I read several comments on here with people saying that's being nitpicky, or muscle memory should prevent an accident.
But I totally agree with your concern.
Any responsible firearm owner should point out such a serious design flaw or fitment issue.
You may have saved someone's life.
I hear MAYBE 2 out of 10 saying their trigger guard is completely covered.
That's exactly what happens when companies make multi firearm holsters.

I agree, I have a lot of Grandchildren, and they like to climb all over us, and that opening in the holster is a deal breaker for me.

Interesting. The concept looked good, but it's obviously not without a flaw. I like good leather holsters, but a quality holster will hold the gun securely without any gimmicks. Thanks for talking the time to do this review.
I actually don't think it's gimmicky. The lock up mechanism works pretty well. I just don't like it when holsters don't cover the entire finger guard

I did reach out to Urban Carry today to see if it might be a defect. They stated that as long as the actual trigger is covered, they consider it a proper fit. Even if the trigger guard itself is exposed.

I have carried about every day with a Springfield Hellcat, I like it fine I am a chubby guy and want a high riding comfortable fit and good retention. I am about to order one for my G17 gen 5.
Great review and appreciate your honesty! I’m paranoid about that tendency to put your hand on that trigger when you’re doing a cowboy! The answer for me is that I have a trigger key that locks the mechanism when it’s holstered . Urban fits the niche when someone doesn’t feel like spending 80 dollars plus on a custom holster !

I recently bought yesterday the lock leather holster for my Springfield XD 9mm. I went with an outside the waistband plus an extra mag extension and a gun belt of course. At a later time I will buy their IWB version to fit my flashlight. I bought this holster for the idea of something comfortable yet efficient at other words functional compared to both of my kydex holsters of which are very uncomfortable for concealed carry
These holsters are not built for a spacific gun. You put in your gun make and model, and they suggest a size for it. They gave me two different sizes for my FN reflex. I just chose one at random, really. I just got it yesterday. The quality on it is great. However, the rear part of the trigger guard is exposed, and i can see the back of the trigger itself. I dont really think this will be an issue because you should draw with your finger out of the trigger guard anyway. But i can see how this could freak people out. I dont really see any scenario where something could get in there and pull the trigger on reholstering. But I suppose it is possible. Im breaking it in per the instructions now. I'll wear it for a while and see how it goes.
Love the idea that it's leather as opposed to kydex. Love the idea of the internal lock. Hate that they are not built for a specific firearm. One size doesn't fit all. I'll pass. Thanks,

I hear that… I will say though that they aren’t one size fits all but rather they have many sizes and the fit is really good even though it isn’t custom made.
They have specific holsters for specific guns. You have to enter that info before buying. Not 1 size fits all.

It's not a bad holster, fitment varies from gun to gun so it may fit yours better.

Here's a fix for the exposed trigger. Don't put your finger in it when retrieving the gun! Who does that? The proper way is having your trigger finger extended when unholstering. In fact, you did this several times. My finger never comes close to the trigger until after the weapon is pulled. Not worth crying over.
I have a great habit of keeping my trigger finger extended until the gun is pulled. I would never have my finger in that situation
I have two, One for My Canick MC9 and My TP9 Elite SC. I love mine but its an Opinion!!
Hey dad great video! Being left handed and holsters is almost a curse unless you get a generic gun. After 2 years do you still use it? Also, not being a serpa or having a thumb break concerns me because someone can come up behind you and take your gun. Any it’s great finding a RUclipsr who is a southpaw. So I subscribed. Thank you!
Thanks for the review. The finger issue on this one" could be a Training issue. Go a hundred times drawing from an extended index position just like any other gun (trigger off the trigger) until you are locked on target and ready to shoot and you'll be alright. But if you can't overcome that feeling just don't keep it. I wouldn't keep it if it was a totally exposed uncovered trigger guard. Subbed.
The finger thing I showed to prove a point really. For my particular gun it's a large enough gap that something could get snagged in there by accident. Thanks for watching!

The only problem I have is there is no retention on mine no matter how much I adjust it.
I would definitely reach out to them about that. My retention is fine. My only issue was the coverage of the trigger guard.

I carry a GX4, and there is no way you can get your finger on the trigger. Must be your model of gun. I have seen others with the same problem and others without the problem

I have one for M&P Shield 2.0 and my Beretta 92X...Both cover the trigger completely. I just believe they sold you the wrong holster. I do agree with your concerns, but you must have the wrong holster. I just ordered a third for my micro 9, let's see if it is good to go... I make sure that they have the correct barrel length in the item selection before I select. The M&P Shield 2.0, I had to really pay a lot of attention to the model selection.
I contacted the company and verified it is the right model for the gun. They told me the fut was acceptable to them.
What size of the 92x do you have?

Completely factory. I contacted the company and they say it's normal and within their specs.

Do you see the little bit they had to do to cover that trigger, Is it really custom fit to that gun.
Mine are nice and secure when I carry.
Is there any options to add a similar locking mechanisms one could add to there leather holster that is already specifically made for a gun

I chuckle everytime a reviewer talks about the trigger guard. My memory muscle has my index finger away from the trigger straight down the slide when I reach for and draw my pistol out, whether it be a IWB or OWB and made of leather or kydex. If your that nervous that your going to reach into your holster, wrap your finger around a trigger and pull that makes me nervous as well. I appreciate the reviews but seriously I just can't wrap my head around this.
Point taken but the intention of my channel is geared toward helping new gun owners who don't have the experience that others do. Anything can be overcome with enough training and practice though.

Muscle memory doesn't always work in high stress situations for everyone the same.
Plus, every holster company should know to have the trigger guard completely covered...from front to back.

I would think you pull the gun and then put your finger on the trigger. Not put your finger on the trigger before you pull it out.
That's correct but the point is not even being able to get your finger into the trigger when holstered. Things can happen or get caught on the holster in day to day life.

I'm curious about their belt, if it's decent enough to hold up for a few years. It's obviously not a Beltman or A&G or Tucker Gunleather, but being able to get a decent holster and belt for $104, not a bad way to get started with OWB and leather.
Can't comment on the belts. I use a Nexbelt personally and I like it.
Kore belts are fantastic. If you carry everyday still as stout as the day it was new. 3 years ago.

I hate this holster. I paid $70, with shipping, for a holster and I have to have the retention so lose to get the hellcat into the holster and it literally chips the front of my trigger guard because it’s still too tight inserting the firearm.
Oh wow! That's the first I've heard of that type of issue.
@@defensedad yeah I don’t know if I have a defective one or what but I’ve tried everything to make it work and I have to push the weapon into the holster so hard it chips my trigger guard. It def locks in nicely but I have barely a single thread on the tension adjustment screw and it just feels too tight to me.

Look at reviews online for this holster and almost all of them say the same thing about having to loosen the retention screw so far just to get a weapon into or out of it. I returned this holster for a full refund. At least urban carry does returns correctly. Most likely because they have to do them so often.

Now, to be fair and this is why I didn't just condemn the holster outright....they design holsters that fit multiple firearms and have a sizing system. That same holster may fit a different firearm perfectly. It just wasn't a perfect fit for MY firearm. Honestly, based on the indentations in the holster it looks like they used a variant of a SIG Sauer, possible one of the P65 lineup.

Is there a way to inform the company of this info on raising the covering of the trigger area?
I did, they responded that as long as the actual trigger is covered then they consider that safe even if the rest of the guard is exposed. Not uncommon from several manufacturers.

So I just found this video today. I see you are a big guy like myself. (I mean that as respectful as possible) I want an inside the waistband holster so bad. But I worry with the amount of room between my body and then adding a firearm and the my pants.
I carry a Springfield 1911 or a beretta depending on the day. Thoughts?

It’s not a good holster for that weapon specifically it covers my hellcat pro completely same with my sig p365x it’s the trigger guard on your weapon it’s huge sure you can find something better for that weapon specifically

I respect your opinion man, my stance is that I think holsters should cover the entire trigger guard. I do not have my finger on the trigger when drawing ever but it's my preference in a holster.
When it comes to someone concerned enough to share safety issues due to poor design or fit, that is not nitpicking.
It's possibly saving someone's life.
A holsters #1 job is to aid in safely carrying a firearm if you can slide your finger into the holster and manipulate the trigger to fire the weapon the holster is a failure. Under duress I could totally see this being a huge problem. If I knew this before ordering mine I more than likely wouldn't have. However that being said the holster I have from this company for my Beretta 92x doesn't have this issue and I am glad that I purchased it. The Yankee Marshall does a great job explaining why holsters are designed like this and I can appreciate both sides of the argument. I think it boils down to how much experience a person has with their firearm and how dedicated they are in training but for the average citizens that just need a safe reliable holster I would advise against a holster that allows access of a finger to manipulate the trigger. Every pistol is different and every holster is different sometimes you just have to find out what works best for your situation. Generalizing things isn't generally a good idea.

If you actually think that small opening is an issue than you really need to reconsider carrying a firearm.

That's a reality of youtube these days. All sorts of hoops we have to jump through with their community guidelines so we don't get channel strikes. RUclips doesn't like gun content as a general rule.

Actually the design of it is solid. My gripe with it is not being specially made for my firearm. Since it's designed for multiple firearms, some will fit perfectly and cover the trigger guard nicely but others not as much. Sort of a crap shoot as far as that goes unfortunately. Thanks for watching. Honestly it seems to be made well. The leather feels good, the stitching is tight, etc.... I just have a thing about my trigger guards not being fully covered. The mechanism does lock up pretty well to retain it so I wouldn't be worried about it falling out when I'm moving around.
I don't know if they've improved the design to cover the trigger guard, but I just got mine for my Beretta 92x compact and it covers 95% of the trigger guard and it would be impossible to get a finger in. It did take some screw adjusting to get it to lock up correctly but it works great. I did have to shave a tiny bit of leather from the inside lip of the holster that was causing occasional friction against the rear sight when holstering. That was really easy and it works great. Love this holster.
great review. Pointed out a tremendous flaw and saved me some money. Don't worry about scanning the camera with your weapon. I have my mask and face shield on, so I'm protected
