very well explained and in detail as always, reaper is a daw that is always in continuous growth with real updates, and it must be said that it is decades away from most daw's that boast so much that they are the best or that for an update of 250 or 300 dollars for half of what reaper gives in an update of the month, reaper is a great contribution to the advancement and development of musicians worldwide without forgetting your great prices that are always excellent as any. thank you
agreed. One of my favorite things about Reaper is that you don't end up waiting for too long to see things implemented that you may have thought about while working on something. Can't count how many times I have thought, "it would be cool if I could do this" and there be a function for it in the next update.
That blend mode % for solo and muting items is something I requested a while back on the forums and hoped it’ll be added. Now I can make it pure black and quickly scroll up and down in large sessions knowing which items are being solo’d. Such a great update! Always grateful for your videos too! Thank you!
Indeed - even as someone who is always in the dev build forums. It's still so useful to have these videos to remind me of some of the things I might have missed :) Thanks!
Wow, thanks again for your videos! Allow drag-import to insert tracks is a really nice feature! Usually when I import some new samples, I put them on an existing track and then create a new track and move them to the new track. Now it it's much faster and still I can use it in the old way when I want to.
The "offset overlapping media items vertically" option will come in handy. Thanks for demoing that. I assume that's a precursor to the media items lanes comping changes. pretty cool .
that action was there for a while with a different name (show overlapping media in lanes). With media lanes feature coming I think they wanted to rename it.
Another great update vid. REAPER is a great DAW and great app in general. I love that they just keep adding little tweaks and features that are actually useful. I sometimes think oversampling is overhyped in in some cases but it's still great to have on hand. Same with the item mixing and flexibility in general. Cheers
When I saw "per-FX oversampling" in the changelog, the first thing I did was load Decapitator! Seems like a bunch of us were waiting for such a feature, Reaper made Soundtoys great again!
I’m very excited by the new free position mode actions. I really need to use it more. I have so much use for it in my freaky sound design, but always forget about free positioning, and yikes I end up with multitudes of child tracks. It gets maddening after a while.
Early on I was also using FIP for video assets, kinda as a layer group. The one issue with it I have is that it doesn't respect the regular layering, ie I thought items higher up would be in front of lower items, but the low items sometimes get on top. If there's a logic to it I haven't figured it out :D
Regarding oversampling, 2 questions: Did I understand it correctly that the plugin itself does not need oversampling, and this new function can be used with any plugin? And regarding latency, I figure delay compensation takes care of this anyway, so in a mixing situation it would not matter right? All other tracks would be delayed accordingly as well, I'm assuming?
right, you can oversample any fx , as long as they function at the effective higher sample rate. latency is compensated but you may still notice it as a lag before playback or at worst a delay between moving parameter and hearing the change.
Thank you! The oversamplings is just applied after rendering, at least in my case. Is there any setting to hear in on playback or to switch this behavior? Thx
@@TheREAPERBlog Well, I believe I've made a forum thread. No response. I've learned there really isn't logging. And issue persisted within several plugin makers but limited to VST3 plugins. Since I got no support I moved on. Very painfull, but sadly worth it.
@@TheREAPERBlog Just a hint: 12 tracks, all have a single VST3 plugin. Save. Open project again : Reaper crashes. Remove offending VST3 plugin. Save. Open project again: Reaper crashes again. I use the old default theme (1.x or whatever). For the last few days, I'd guess since this update, the writing on the track fader area has gone white. So the track names are almost invisible. Poo.
There are two things that keep me from using Reaper: The interface of the menus and stock plugins is _extremely_ uninspiring (unless you're a huge fan of Windows 95, I suppose), and its support for the PreSonus FaderPort is too limited. Adding a Listen Bus would also be a big plus.
The reason I won't use Reaper is why would anyone use something called Reaper? They might as well have called it Satan or A'hole or something. It's just not the mental vibe that I want to live in.

"theme overlay color for muted/inactive items/tracks"
I been waiting for this 7 years! Great!
Awesome as always Jon, thank you so much for continuing to do these videos, they are so helpful. Oversampling plugins could be a gamechanger

The FX oversampling section definitely made my dogs bark!
Other DAWs would go up to the next major version and charge $500 for this type of update. well done
Thank you :) The render loudness graph is the coolest one!
I use FIP for vocals a ton, so these updates are as welcomed as they are unexpected.
What a pro, thanks John. These videos are so well organized and presented completely with us users in mind. 💯💯💯

thanks for keeping us up to date, It is really hard to keep track of all their updates.
media item changes: percentage can be set to higher than 100, setting to 101 makes the label not overlap the item above which is nice.

Thanks for the update
That per FX & FX chain oversampling is so dope! 🔥
I guess Meta plugin is not needed anymore, no?
true
Loooooooove the Insert Track when dragging media!!!
The oversampling latency depends on the resample mode.
Very complex changes explained well! Not too sure about the oversampling usefulness for me, but at least I now have the general idea.
Wow all these years I thought crossfade was the only way and that stacking wasn't possible
Thank you, Jon!

If I could get one new feature, it would be a checkbox in the Render dialog, to show the file in the explorer and exit after rendering.
Thanks Jon!
Thank you Jon.
THank you.
Nice Video!
Unfortunately this update broke the ARA compatibility of Synchro Arts Vocalign Project 5 for me. It always shows the non ARA one.
new pre-release today includes a backwards compatibility fix for ARA. check it out on the official forum

Does the oversampling depend on the samplerate support for the individual plugins? Many Waves plugins for example only support 96kHz.
That makes sense to me, but you'll have to test.
excellent
Que tema usas en reaper, para que todos los plugins mismos del reaper se vean de color negro?

Did you manage to stop VST3 plugins from crashing all the time? I've already switched to Cubase, which works, but I'm curious.
You'll have to demo it and see on your system. I don't know about the issue you're referring to

Does protools import REAPER projects?

already fixed in 6.55. They need more people using the old themes in the beta testing to check for this kind of thing.
Good news it's fixed! Thanks.

Just say it will be fixed? Or is there already some way to add selected actions?
Track manager channel count has always been there? This is not something new, i guess?
in that case I cannot explain why that was in the changelog. I didn't think to check this on my other computer
you were right. it was included in the changelog by accident.
