Urbex: Abandoned DUTCH House (Ontario)

- *UPDATE: As of February, 2019, there is a new house being built in its place.*
Exploring this abandoned house with nice furnishings left behind sitting on a nice secluded pond view property which will likely be replaced by a road according to a sign in the new subdivision beside this property for reasons of expanding, I suspect. I wasn't able to find out why there was police tape inside which remains a real mystery. The last date I was able to find was 2008 from a calendar, so it's likely been abandoned since then. Many items left behind were indicative of former Dutch occupants.

After following a couple of other Urban Exploration channels I came across your channel. I have to say this is exactly what I was looking for. You take your time and ponder over everything and I really appreciate that. Others, who I won't name lol, run thru the places like their butt's on fire acting a fool the whole time. I'm always saddened by these homes. It just seems such a waste to just abandon them. This house tells such a story what with the furniture and all. I can just picture the family looking out the many windows as the season changed.
Wonder if any original owners ever look on youtube and find their old home?
OMG NO FRIEKEN WAY! that house was my grandmothers house! I used to always go there i went there not to long Ago to check it out and see how bad it was. We had heard it was abandoned. That table was where i ate at every morning when i came over there. There was a fishtank in that hallway. She passed away and they sold the house. Everyone took what they wanted from it and the rest which was alot was left behind inside.someone else lived there for 5 months after it was sold
Why did the family leave all her possessions there?
@sark76 she died like I said and they let the family go in and take what they wanted and then it was sold half that stuff isnt even my grandmothers like the equipment and the stuff in the living room section of the kitchen. A few people lived there after it was sold

So sorry for the loss of your grandma. I cannot believe anyone abandoned this house. It so beautiful. Such a waste! Hopefully someone will be able to purchase. Or default on taxes and someone can take it over. I certainly would love too.

Sad too, that it's all going to erased, to build high-density condos.
What you came past in the beginning of the vid was what used to be an aquarium. Also, I loved the details on the stairs and the wooden cabinet and table, something you'd normally see here in France. Thanks for sharing x

first i saw the windmills in the paintings and thought: "They must be Dutch." Then at 17:15 I saw the frame with the drawing and the text. It is about the village "Etten"; this is just about five miles from where I live in the Netherlands! What a coïncidence.

I am so glad to find your channel, Tiki. I have been binge-watching so many of your videos this weekend. 😊 Coincidentally, I was born and raised in this area (moved from the area many years ago), so this is doubly cool to me. So far this house walk-through is my favourite. I love mid-century homes. This one is more of a slightly post-mid-century split level design, but still it is lovely. Someone obviously put a lot of love and thought into it. These late 60s to 70s era family homes are some of my favourite older homes. I would make that front small room that had the ironing board in it, into a sewing room. It looked it might have been an office or craft room with that built in desktop in the corner.
Have to say your videos and Abandonedsc's have me addicted to watching. Have always had the itch to explore abandoned places but have been too frightened. Love that I can explore without the fear through your videos. Thank you!

I REALLY enjoy your videos. Your videos made me a tad bit obsessed with abandoned houses and places. I watch your videos most nights with a bowl of ice cream and dimmed lights. Very calming and interesting.
I never have the guts to enter a abandoned house. I'm always afraid of perhaps a dead body being dumped there or snakes living there! Ugh! So watching your videos help with curiosity on what lies under different abandoned place. I live in the states, right off a country side and we have so many places here that are abandoned. See them all the time, but never imagined me going into them!

As for the text at the bottom, I found an image of this same print for sale that shows the entire thing. It says "Henny Ebbers ±1953". I'm happy I was able to contribute something!

Very nice find, that plant that looked like coral is actually a cactus. Love that banister, what a great house and the pond makes it even more gorgeous.
Definitely cactus in a long planter. That is not what's left of an aquarium, the V-shaped bottom is clearly visible when the camera first approaches it.

I worked for a company that maintained foreclosed properties. It was amazing the length of time houses would sit empty before we were allowed to do any work to them. Sometimes years. Seeing as this is Ontario the times rules and situations may be different. Interesting property brings back as few memories.
The tile or picture in the window @ 17:15 says;
When you are born in Etten,
is that village worth everything to you.
If you stayed there or when you emigrated,
you cannot forget that village.
It pulls on you, wherever you went.
The image of Etten may change
but the humour will forever remain.

Oh man, I would actually (figuratively) kill to live here in this house!! This is by far the most beautiful house I've ever seen on one of these channels and one of the nicest houses I've seen, period. It just needs some updating/modernization, a good cleaning, and better flooring and it'd be ready to move in! They better not do anything to this house. They need to do what they did with Carol Burnett's childhood home when a nearby business wanted that land for an expanded parking lot, i.e., move the house to a nearby location. It'd be worth it!!
Oh, I meant mainly in terms of making the kitchen more modern-looking (I've even got a Samsung french door refrigerator I already own and could move inside the kitchen) and upgrading the wiring to accommodate 21st century power needs. As far as the flooring goes, I'd want to put in new carpets because I'm sure the older ones are shot, and some hardwood flooring in the foyer and on the stairs. Maybe some new vinyl tiles in the bathrooms. Otherwise it's turn-key ready!

This was another great tour tiki; such a beautiful house; you are a great detective; you knew before finding the book on Holland that they we're dutch; I think if there was a crime there, you would have solved it...thank you for being so thorough with your camera shots It's heart breaking to know that the area will soon be overrun with those cookie cutter houses...great video :)

I found it strange that their was police tape inside the house, because I thought Police Officers usually put it around the outside when a crime is committed...so I think you're right when you say the previous owners might have been using it for something. House has a great layout - really livable. You find the best places.
You crack me up!!!! You go into all those dark, dank basements, but when you're in an outbuilding in the daytime that is well lit, etc., you get scared. lmao
If I heard that noise in a basement, I'd run out of it as well, but I haven't had such an experience elsewhere. I thought there might be an animal that felt trapped by my presence which is why I got out of there. They do love attics.
***** I initially thought you had company and that they were coming up the stairs after you. :) Sounded just like footsteps to me so when you hightailed it I had to be careful not to choke on my water! :D

I really enjoy watching your videos you are excellent at filming you don't go to fast and you talk to us as if we are right there with you. I would love to know why so many people walk away and leave so much behind. I have noticed one funny thing in quite a few of the houses there is still toilet paper on the holder in the bathrooms even in houses that have been vandalized. What a beautiful house! Looks like its in really good shape; no water damage &/or mold. It would just need to be cleaned, carpet stripped, and a few updates. As for the police tape, I'm a cop in a city in the US. After we're done investigating a crime scene, we hurriedly rip off the tape and dump it in the squads' trunks to be disposed of at the district station. Sometimes we don't get every scrap of tape. I also had a friend that lived in my squad area. I would tape up her overhead garage door during my night shift as a joke. She wouldn't see it as she entered her garage from her fenced off backyard on her way to work in the morning. Once she opened her overhead door from the inside of her garage, she would find my handiwork.
That is hilarious and very clever!
Tiki: My friend thought it was funny. She owns her own business, so she could afford the couple of minutes it would take to remove the tape. Who's gonna say anything to the boss if she's a couple of minutes late?
Also, one of the earlier comments stated that police tape off the entire property, plus the surrounding area, if a crime has been committed in a residence. That is correct. We do not tape off specific areas within a residence, as the entire house is a crime scene. The police tape in the house was a prank.

I was actually just thinking after rewatching the video just now that the "crime scene" tape was placed there to investigate the arson attempt in the living room area of the house! You know, with the scorched desk and ceiling and all? But I can totally buy that the people who set the fire probably just quickly put it out and hurried away, and perhaps came back with some party store-procured "police tape" as a joke.
After seeing your viewers comments about the CarClub doing the same house , I went and looked at their video . They were crude enough to show the poo . Thank you for having more class than that , and your camera work is far better !!
It's pretty interesting to see different views of the urban explorers - looks like they were there a few short months ahead in 2013 .

I was glad to see the attention to detail on the garage and the other areas not covered in the earlier video by the other urban explorer.
Great video such a beautiful house and property makes you wonder what it was like when the people lived there. And to think it will be destroyed for a road is sickening.

I don't purposely visit hold haunts, especially if they are far away as most are, but if I happen to be in the area, I like to check the status and then update it in my description if there has been any change. This house I see regularly and it is still sitting there abandoned on the pond in the city. The only difference is, it's boarded up now. The city has been getting after developers and land owners for not boarding up their vacant buildings lately.
Oh wow, what a gorgeous house, this would be my dream house, it's simple yet gorgeous, well obviously not my dream house in THAT condition haha but still I can imagine how nice it would be completely redone. I'd say this is one of my favorite videos, you find the best places!
This was a truly fascinating place. Very high-end construction, fairly secluded with a pond view! One can only imagine what it once looked like and what it still could look like, if not for the supposed, planned area expansion. The newly-constructed barn was very well built and worth quite a lot of money in it's own right. Someone needs to inquire about the very nice furniture, before it suffers a grizzly fate at the hands of the vicious vandals. Great tour Tiki! All five stars! ~oO(♪)Oo~

EccentricalRed Some kind of a terrarium, as opposed to an aquarium. Likely bred lizards or spiders in it as it doesn't look like a permanent setup to house animals 24/7

Tiki, I know where this place is too. I totally forgot that it was there. It was built when I was in grade 6 or so. Considering all the development around it is amazing how untouched it is. I guess being hidden in the bush has protected it for now.

Seems like the people who lived there are from the Dutch village Etten as seen on the small picture. Its written in old Dutch saying even if you emigrate you'll never forget the village you come from. Doesn't surprise me since a lot of Dutch emigrated to Canada. And btw I never heard about an old tradition of us taking the sinks when we move lol
