Oh, this one is actually not bad; the main appeal is that every town is completely different; I kept on playing just to see what other ridiculous thing they'd come up with next! I seem to recall there are also quite a few references to Japanese (pop) culture in this one, so that'd make the localization job fairly difficult. What's kinda interesting is that you can level up your skills/magic as well I believe. All things considered, it's probably one of the better RPGs in 1990, even if it's not incredible at anything, it gets really creative later on... seems that's there's a baseline level of quality for most genres at this point.
This is a 5 star game, that's for sure. Magic levelling, understandable maps, ridiculous but interesting story, funky BGM, lots of inventory to get. Top moments of the game story are the tank ride, the walking on water, the massage adventure, fish puns exhibition, the poop city and their TV station, the whale belly dungeon, the town with no music with a quest to find a musician and the 3-village battle with a Skull Clan. The gaming progress is so rewarding that playing this one reminded me of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest III, I'm not kidding, it's THAT good. In my opinion Ninjara Hoi! is a true masterpiece, don't overlook this game.
See, you CAN put baseball into other genres. Now, SD heroes, pachinko and horse race betting simulator in an adventure game wrapping is what would make us all happy.
Kinda interesting how the only Loginsoft title on the Famicom not made by Yuji Horii was from his college friend Akira Sakuma. The third and last one after this is Itadaki Street, like the Hokkaido Serial Murders, is also by Horii.
Ah, now there's a trick. I do my best to render the Japanese titles in English but sometimes it's ambiguous. For example, no one is really sure if the title of Capcom's action game is Pajama Hero Nemo or Nemo Pajama Hero. Ninjara Hoi as a title isn't proper Japanese, so it can be a little confusing on how to divide it up since there aren't spaces. My take was "ra" was being used as the indicator of a plural, which it shouldn't be with "ninja", so it was "ninjara". I've seen some people split the difference on this title and go with "Ninja Ra Hoi", too.
That battle music totally doesn't sound like battle music... way too slow and plodding. Kind of strange... even some of the crappier RPGs, like Zoids 2 and Hoshi wo Miru Hito, at least get the general mood right.
Never played this one. It reminds me of Musashi no Bouken, another very similar to Momotarou Densetsu. Kinda crazy how boxed games can be found in Japan for as little as ¥200; the only ones I have seen that cheap here are a few crappy sports games, and loose cartridges only. Another day, another thank you 👍.

You got your baseball in my Dragon Quest clone!

narration: "ninjara hoi is a very standard rpg"
*the character proceeds to walk over a huge suastika*
It's a symbol to fend from evil and the hex, the star of remphan. Your comment is funny, though.
What kind of monster stops you from naming your main character AAAA?
That's a lot of ninjas in that thumbnail
wow just when you thought you could escape baseball for a day, hah. don't know what else to say about this one.

Cool, this one has a full English patch. Although they changed the name to "Ninja Rahoi!" for some reason.

Stranger is on the money here. If we are going to divide the words it’ll be “Ninjara Hoi” and not “Ninja rahoi”.

I feel bad for anyone who paid that original price.

Ooh.... I think I was kind of mean toward Musashi no Bouken, too. 🙄
