True. But the Bucks sent Holiday to Portland in the Dame trade, so bad luck for Mil that Brad grabbed Jrue. The Celts played this way all season, so nothing atypical about winning this year. Judging the Celtics based on previous teams and coaches seems pretty one dimensional.
Al Horford’s play adjustment throughout his career and ability and will to stay a relevant basketball player deserves a large sum study grant. He’s still an integral piece of these Celtics.
I used to think so. He said Tatum played terribly, with barely a nod to the fact he play-made as well as Stockton. Points isn't the only measure. It's kinda amateur to think so.
Man i can't hate on Tatum's game yesterday. He was getting beat up, and was still able to get the ball to Jrue multiple times for great buckets. He absorbed contact, tried to make a play every time. Then he hit that 3. I'll take it! As a Bucks fan, i love to see Jrue in action, we miss him and DiVincenzo so much!!!
Kyrie constantly takes the worst shots it’s hard to watch him when the team is down 7 and trying to climb back into the game and Kyrie sprints in Brown or Holiday and turns and around to shot the worst shot in all of basketball the Midrange fadeaway with a defender in face
@@HawgJawnTatum has been way more effective than Irving has. He actually does other stuff when he’s missing shots. Well, Kyrie does too - but arguing with fans isn’t something that shows up on the box score.
Yeah when Rassilo isnt on with his third grade level takes on Tatum. Dude doesn't even understand the difference between a bad game and a bad shooting game. Go listen to what Jrue had to say about Tatum's impact after the game Rassilo
1. Still don't understand why the Tatum narrative isn't about how great players (and potential MVP's) find a way to contribute even when their shots aren't falling. Dude has the second highest +/- despite the shooting struggles, is making smart passes, and is grabbing all the boards he can. When the shots start falling, watch out. 2. Celtics reminding everyone that one common thread of the JTJB era has been the team defense. And in a "team & defense first" situation, leading the team in rebounds and assists should maybe be given more weight.
It’s because fans have more fun hating on Tatum. They can’t necessarily hate on Boston after they went up 2-0 so they hate on JT instead. These fans don’t remember that KG went 16/41 in his first two Finals games and then closed the Lakers out with a monster game six. Tatum was getting this same sort of treatment against the Pacers after two games and then he dropped a 36-10-8 in game 3 and even his biggest critics had to praise him. JT will have a high scoring game in this series and make a bunch of shots but the way he’s playing right now is what’s going to win the Celtics another championship.
because most superstars in the league can't afford to score only 16 and 18 points in the nba finals and win by double digits in both games; he plays on a super team practically
Because that’s the curve that great role players are graded on. Tatum stans want him to have best of both worlds of being considered MVP and a top 5 player in the world but without those level of expectations of performance. He’s literally historically inefficient as a scorer in the finals and has most turnovers per game in finals history currently. No one said he’s useless but that’s not how MVPs are evaluated.
It’s incredible that the Celtics defense has somehow been underrated throughout the playoffs and this season. White and Holiday will ruin your fuckin weekend.
Marcus Smart, if he is watching at home, has to be doing some hard core self evaluation. Jrue did not do crazy things in critical moments that hurt us. I could not recall any during this playoff run, at least. Smart on the other hand, would have done a few good things, and then had a few “wtf is he doing” moments that unnecessarily extend a series and make everyone have heart attack. And on a side note, thank God Damian Lillard turned down Tatum’s offer. Remember last off season, when joining the heat was the “sexy” thing and the “destination” if u wanna win championship? The guy was like a little kid acting like “I only want to go to the heat! Only the heat!! Give me the Heat!!!” Hell no, I don’t want Dame on my team.
@clan_obro how can you watch the way Tatum and brown have been able to use their handle and on ball ability to get to the paint OvER and OVER and OVER in this series and say neither of them can dribble well? Line is that a joke? Dude Tatum shook Luka SO badly even on some of the plays he didn’t finish. I understand they aren’t on the levels of, legit idk? Like a Kyrie or a Kemba or something?…but for their size? Both of them are MUCH better dribblers than LeBron or Jordan or Kobe ever were in terms of the combos they’ll pull off at times, etc. I’m legit having a hard time thinking of 3s in the league with better handles than they have…PG13, but even still, he actually doesn’t use his dribble to get down Hill as much. Then we got..I mean we can call Luka the size of a 3 and he has elite handles so that’s fair. Maybe..nah legit I can’t think of guys their size who are as good at driving to the hoop and even breaking ankles at times the way they do! Remember the move Tatum pulled on the Nets? That move is insane. Or when he literally SPUn towns around late in the Minny OT game. And JB? Have you seen the skip step hesi between crosses he’s been panning to blow past guys all season? And he actually made I think 3 guys call this year. Luka fell, so did Jalen Johnson, and I think someone else. Plus of course Greyson Allen a couple years back. Totally dropped him. I honestly don’t think kyire has put as many dudes on the floor as JB in recent history:/. Idk what else to say lol. I think some brains can’t fathom that there is a difference between being able to dribble and having the ball stolen from you when you drive sometimes. You actually have to have more balls to be able to really use your dribble on a high level, because sometimes it’s going to look ugly when it gets stolen by a help defender or a reach around
I was riding in my car the other day and asked my Dad, "I wonder what Smart is thinking now." My angle was a little different Whether he was the right guy or not, he spent years being a key part of building this thing, then the trade him. His new team sucks. He is injured, And his old team finally turn the corner and wins the championship. Wow! That would have to be a tough turn of events for anyone.
@@dprestons0318I'm sure MS is sooo upset making mega millions rn watching Celts win - imo most these players get slightly annoyed when they get bounced or don't make playoffs
Ya that was just wrong. Did Kyrie ever find teammates on a drive and kick? Did Kyrie rebound and play good D? Tatum's offense was abysmal. It's like the Donald Trump effect. He says and does enough crazy shit where there's no need for the media to ever exaggerate what happens, yet they do. Tatum was horrible at making shots and was clearly hesitant, but don't exaggerate and say that he was worse than Kyrie.
Tatum 1 for 7 in the 4th with multiple turnovers almost single handedly giving the Mavs a chance to comeback without the heroics of Jrue / Brown defensively with chase down block and timely 3s by DW
Also, as bad as Tatum has been shooting he is averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. Brown is averaging 21.5 points, 5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3 steals and 1.5 blocks through two but shooting over 50% from the field. I wonder how much Jaylen's flashy plays and efficient shooting will impact a potential Finals MVP vote. Tatum's impact just doesn't stand out the way Brown's poster dunks and big blocks do. Also Celtics have five players average at least 16 points per game through the first two games, thats an impressive balance.
The reason I keep coming here is this is still the source engine for so many good ways to watch and enjoy sports. A "Nik Chubb' moment only makes sense if you really enjoy sports and all the different ways it makes you feel, which is what Bill and company are superb at.
Rusiello disappoints me. The way these two just went Tatum to score. And that’s it. Do you want to win finals or do you want Tatum to play well. Who gives a shit about his scoring. Look at the game. Look at the coverage he is getting and look at the good decisions he is making. Sorry he didn’t shoot worse by shooting more contested shots.
LOL so you think Luka, LeBron, Jokic and other star players don’t take contested shots? Because those are the players his delusional stans think he belongs in same conversation as. In reality Tatum is not even the best player on his own team but you all want him to be recognized as top 5 player in the league without the expectations of a top 5 player
I totally agree. Tatum shooting terrible from 3 (28%) and at the rim (28%) on superstar volume (1/7 each) honestly only helps his team win. It's truly one of Tatum's most invaluable skills that he only bricked 15 ill-advised shots and not 20- 15 shots is only a meager 18% of the Celtics total attempts, after all. If he shoots even worse and more often, maybe 10% on 30 attempts, imagine how many more assists he could get and how much more he could help his team! Maybe if he shoots 4/9 from the free throw line, he'll start setting really good screens. Or maybe if he gets 8 turnovers, he'll try really hard at contested 3s to affect the game. I particularly thought him passing up wide open 3s in the 3rd for congested drives while launching and bricking contested pull-up 3s for the first 3 quarters was great decision-making. Who care if his scoring is awful if he can play really well as a vintage 90s role-player point guard and the 4th best defender on his team! Russillo is absolutely crazy for expecting an All-NBA top 5 MVP candidate superstar to make good decisions AND score at above Draymond Green efficiency on high volume. He just doesn't know ball. If a superstar is expected to do two superstar things well, like play-making and scoring, the best case scenario is doing just one of those two things great in half the games of the series and shitting the bed completely with the other. And we all know doing one thing well to make up for being horrible in another is always more valuable to your team than being good or even passable on both fronts. No superstar has ever done both - play-making and scoring - well and to ask that of Tatum is absurd. It's not like shooting extremely inefficiently on high volume hurts your team so who cares about it? Your #1 option shooting 30% from the field on 22 shots (26% of Celtics FGs) obviously has no impact on the outcome of the game and saying it does makes you a complete buffoon who knows nothing about how valuable it is to winning to be a bad, inefficient scorer and good play-maker while leading in usage. But seriously, Tatum's micro decision-making (what he does once the play has been initiated) is good, but his macro decision-making (what action should he initiate) is mediocre to poor, hence all the IQ-less side-step 3s and leaning mid-range shots. He is driving more which is great (even if he's missing like an idiot constantly) because it puts the Mavs in rotation--him settling for 3s has always been his biggest flaw, so it's good he's not fixating on that. However, his play-making is not good enough to make up for the huge scoring negative and opportunity cost of his bad shot selection and misses. The best part of his defense is the flexibility which enables others to do well. What someone enables is never as valuable as what someone does. Shutting down Luka and shutting down the lob pass are both way more important than the mere fact Tatum puts them in the position to do that by guarding the center. Tatum has contributing to winning, sure, but he's hurt his team almost as much offensively as he's helped them on that end. His defense has been solid, so it's not like he's terrible out there, but I resent every Tatum defense. If he's an All-NBA MVP candidate, he needs to be held to a high standard like everyone else. Expectations for him are lower than every other superstar for no reason at all besides the fact he has an incredible team and his flaws don't punish his team as much as those of others would.
@@truthbearer7891 didn’t say he was a top five player at all. It’s the mvp voters that do that. I don’t understand why I’m supposed to be upset that mvp and all nba team voters vote him that way. I just like the Celtics. As a team. I don’t care where you list the players at. It’s irrelevant.
@@slightexag wow. That’s the longest RUclips comment I’ve ever seen. I’ll say again. I just want to win the finals. I don’t care what Tatum stats are. Call and complain to voters of all the awards and ask them why they have him on the all nba teams and mvp lists. I mean everyone hates him but he seems to make those lists every year. As a fan of the Celtics I of course would like to win 25 each game with him scoring 30+. But he isn’t. He is still giving effort and helping the team despite that. I’ll take it. I’m not offended that a talented basketball player is playing bad. I guess that’s on me.
To be fair Jrue was never this good of a help defender until literally this season. He was actually pretty close to average. By his own admission he'd never quarterbacked a defense before this year. He'd also never shown quite this level of switchability. Whereas Marcus has been the defensive QB, makes more insane rotations than anyone who isn't Draymond, is still the most switchable small guard, and was just as good in point-of-attack when he was younger but then he added weight and started switching more instead. But he can still do it when he wants -- go look at what Steph shot against Marcus in the 22 Finals And Marcus basically invented how every team loads up in the gaps now on drives. Smart was doing that 6 years ago. He and Al are also responsible for Boston's defensive identity to this day. They set the tone and built the foundation And if Jrue _is_ better it's not by much. Certainly not "so much better it's crazy". That is a completely asinine statement. That's like saying Cade Cunningham is better than Jayson Tatum. Especially considering Smart had a much larger offensive load and was still that good defensively But this probably was the best defensive season of Jrue's career
Tatum is 26, has had huge moments and success in the playoffs. To say this is all he can be, when we've seen soooo many players take leaps at this age is crazy. Are we forgetting he's one year younger than Brown, who has taken a leap this season/playoffs, who doesn't demand double teams and blitzes?
I mean the cake is mostly baked at 26. Maybe he can get a little more consistent as a shooter, the playmaking will still get a little better probably, but that will be balanced as he loses athleticism and he needs those things to stay at this level Brown got better because his process was terrible. (Honestly idk how he made second team All-NBA when that was probably the worst he's ever played. Bad defense and a black hole on offense.) But Tatum's process is already really good. He's super clean in terms of effort and decision making. He can't just start playing better defense and stop settling for mid-range jumpers like Brown. And Brown had much more room to grow as a playmaker too. Getting better is also about where you are starting from and often how much fat you can trim as much as how much room you have for growth
The Celts kept their poise and stuck to the game plan. Defense wins. One out of 6 great players step up. Am I surprised? (Hint: see regular season) PS. Tatum was a playmaker and played solid D. Playing well doesn't just mean points. Are you guys for real?
Bill is so right about Tatum unlocking the short mid range game. It's completely non-existent for him. As strong as Tatum is he isn't a great leaper and has some issues finishing against good rim protectors. He needs to develop and get comfortable shooting those tweener/floater shots in the short mid range. He can't keep putting his head down and drive to the rim out of control time and time again.
In his rookie season, he comfortably took a few midrange shots. The next season when they were having a tumor filled season and it wasn't falling as much, the same group of people criticized him for trying to be Kobe, shooting inefficient midrange shots. He is a great player, his not shooting well right now but he will get back to it(God willing)
This was going to be the hardest win in my opinion to get. The Mavs new they were fighting for their life basically in game 2. The odds of them winning four-of-five are almost zero. This is a Celtics team that has lost back-to-back games 3 times all season and has never lost more than 2 games in a row.
Tatum didn’t play bad he shot bad. There’s a big difference. 12 assists to 3 TOs Defended 1-5 with some big defensive plays down the stretch Lead the team in rebounding Consistently drew multiple defenders creating opportunities for others One board away from a triple double. Cmon man
Exactly. One of my biggest annoyances is when people conflate shooting poorly with playing poorly. There is certainly overlap between the two but I've watched LeBron play games where he had 30 and was awful and Pippen score 5 and be the best player on the floor. I don't think Tatum was great but he was very good and certainly not bad.
@@michaelahurt it was a B game from Tatum all things considered. His presence on the floor is the reason why Jrue & DWhite had the games they had Sunday night
@@williedynamite3745 Agree His presence and what he can do unlocks so much for this team. Like yes, he's not as good as most #1's on a title team, but the fact he can carry that weight allows everyone else to slot into their role and excel
@dprestons0318 absolutely when you see rusillo talk about pulling the chair, you could tell by his face it happens to him. Russilo is a Beer league Barkley
When I watch Jrue Holiday play basketball I start swooning. The man is so refreshing to watch. He just plays the game SO well, so smart, so tough and clutch. Makes all the little plays at the right times, makes big plays at the right time… yeah, I have a man crush and I’m not afraid to say it.
To just call tatums game terrible when he had had 18, 12, and 9 and played pretty great defense seems a bit unfair. Sometimes shots don’t fall he’s made a concerted effort to affect the game in other ways! Can’t help but notice the deference in his defense compared Luka getting blown by every damn play.
To descibe Tatum's game as horrible is wild. It was a solid game, horrible shooting, great passing, really good rebounding and great defense. The way they talk about this team after a win is insane. "If Luka was healthier, they would've stole the game." 😂
What I find hilarious is that if Tatum hits ONE more 3, and grabs ONE more board… ppl r just so obsessed with numbers, but if you’ve watched the games (really) Tatum is making all the right plays, just missin a few shots (which is basketball!)
That sounds impressive until you look at his stat-line and shooting percentages: 24.9/10.3/6.3 on 42.6% FG, 28.9% 3FG. Among those shooting 15+ shots a game in the playoffs, his efficiency is 19th out of 25. For 3s, his efficiency compared to others shooting at the high volume of 5.5+ a game (Tatum at 7.1) is 26th out of 26. Just call a spade a spade: Tatum has been underwhelming by his regular season standards, a role player by superstar standards, and has worse shooting efficiency than Draymond Green's career averages from the field both from 3 and overall. If your greatest hope for a top five MVP candidate, 1st Team All-NBA superstar is just for him to score above 10 points and get 10 rebounds when he's always defending near the paint, shoots 19.5 shots a game and 7.4 free throw attempts per game, your standards are rock bottom. But what's new for defending Jayson Tatum: low expectations, rationalizations, silver linings, using team success to cover for bad individual play, glass half-full thinking are a Tatum fan's bread and butter. He's been outplayed by a teammate or opposing player 13-14 times out of 16 this run, but at least he got 10+ rebounds in 13 of 16 games. Sure, he shot 28.6% at the rim and 28.6% from 3 in Game 2. But that's totally okay and even encouraged because then he gets to impact the game in other ways. Hopefully next game, he gets a bunch of turnovers so he can set really good picks to affect the game. Or maybe he'll go 4/9 from the line so he can be really great at contesting 3s. Honestly, scoring at above Draymond Green efficiency is super overrated when you can be really good at role player skills or, even better, a vintage role player pass-first point guard. Seriously, it's totally unreasonable and honestly insulting to expect a superstar to shoot 47% FG, 35% 3FG, 50% at the rim, use his scoring gravity to play-make, AND be the 4th best defender on his team. Shooting as efficiently as Paolo Banchero, Jalen Brunson, or Donovan Mitchell in these playoffs is totally absurd! But then again, those guys are surrounded by all-star or near all-star caliber players who take the attention away from them, unlike Tatum who's surrounded by young inefficient offensive role players and has to do it all himself. Oh wait, I have that reversed. Tatum is the one playing aside 4 all-stars (Brown, Holiday, Horford, Porzingis) and a borderline all-star in White, all of whom can give you 20 in a game, while those other guys have to take all the offensive pressure on themselves. Maybe the standards for Tatum should be higher than expecting double-doubles after all!
as someone who wanted to see it like i think everyone else except hardcore celtics fans - i get the feeling that we all missed one of the greatest teams in the latest history because no one believe in it
I wouldn't go that far. Dallas is just a very good matchup for them OKC, Minnesota and Denver all would have given them a lot more trouble. And even healthy Philly and NY teams could have really pushed them.
Tatum played the most minutes, had a 4 to 1 assists to turnovers ratio, had the second most rebounds on the team..... and they said he was terrible!?🤦🏿♂️. Great players find a way to affect the game when the offensive production is not there.
He was terrible *offensively*. I don't really understand how they thought his overall game was terrible. If he was, they should take him out and not play him 45 minutes?
RR talking about Tatum not knowing what to do, but not touching on all the passes he made is a bit lame, but this is an instant reaction so I get it. If a guy isn't shooting well it's pretty common for him to hesitate on open jumpers, at least Tatum was able to get two feet in the paint consistently. Probably had like 15 potential assists again, crazy
Do these guys not understand that Tatum isn’t shooting 10-15 footers because that’s a coaching decision not because he’s never considered taking it?? That’s why some people think the Celtics analytics style offense is boring, it’s a coaching decision
I admire Tatum's game a lot but it seems to me that the main problem with Tatum is that the excessive hype goes to his head - there's a difference between Tatum being the best Tatum he can be and the player ppl EXPECT him to be. He's a great all around player not just an alpha scorer. Not surprised Kidd tries to play mind games - Tatum has shown he's susceptible to them. And it's too bad, because in Tatum’s defense, he has shown also that he is willing and able to continually improve in multiple areas of his game. When he was being criticized for not sharing the ball up enough he developed his passing game. Now when he swings to the other side he gets criticized for not taking over games singlehandedly. I think and hope he will figure out the perfect balance - that's his current challenge and he's met them in the past. I totally agree that Tatum is STILL a work in progress and has not yet reached his peak. And clearly the missing element, the current challenge is developing that GO-TO move short economical automatic. That Tim Duncan bank shot, that Kevin Durant short turn around jumper etc etc. He can do it, but he needs someone on coaching staff to encourage it - Mazulla is not a good influence for Tatum to develop his mid range game - I will grudgingly admit he's done some net positive things for the team ( I'm not a big fan of Joe as Celtics coach generally spkg),but not for Tatum’s development - JT has taken a step back from the trajectory he was on in certain ways. However it's on JT to figure it out for himself. He figured out the defense and the distribution he's tried to fit into Joe's 3 ball dominant offensive schemes as best as he can now he needs to find HIS ultimate Jason Tatum game tailored to his individual skills. He can try to be the player the press wants him to be (Kobe light) the player Mazulla wants him to be ( a 6"9 Steph Curry ) or his own unique identity - maybe a Durant with a less lethal long range jumper but with better distribution skills, like some new mix of certain Durant and LeBron skills. He certainly needs to develop his mid range game more work closer to the basket- if that's good enough for Durant ( who's a BETTER long range shooter than JT) it should be good enough for Tatum. Hope Sam Casell stays- he was onto encouraging JT to focus more on that part of the game pre-season hope JT keeps doing that. End if the day, JT needs to stay professional and down to business and filter out the chatter.Maybe when he gets the contract that will become easier - seems to have worked that way for Jalen - he doesn't seem to be worried anymore about what ppl are saying or thinking about his game - just about playing his best - ( THOSE FOUL SHOTS THOUGH BRO! LOL).
As an OKC fan this is what our scheme was supposed to do but PJ and DJJ decided to turn into prime Klay from the corner. Everyone keeps saying oh the mavs win in 5 if they hit their free throws, but the thunder win in 4 if those guys don’t shoot absurdly well from three.
Bro exactly, same with Wolves fan here. I'm just pissed how Kyrie and rest of the role players were overachieving getting Lobs after Lobs, PJ couldn't miss a shot. Kyrie making 20 points in first quarter. I mean did Mavs luck stop working. Fukk.
Russillo trying to keep it together around 17:15 and then cracking up when he realizes that Bill is trying to salvage Tatum's performance. LMAO. Thank goodness he's there to put some reality into Bill's Celtic heart.
Jrue and White seem to never make mistakes. They are both so good at making the correct basketball play. Usually those type of guys are energy role player guys, but they happen to be really good also.
The difference between them and the other two is that they look to elevate their teammates , play great D, and will be wearing rings for the 24 championship
@@NickMachado I just thought Bill was doing the thing he always does where he talks up anything that supports the idea that his team might finally win the title.
Guys its simple. Minnesota and Oklahoma City and everyone else don't have a on ball defender like drew! He dont lock luka down but he drains alot of his energy and contains him justenough. Kyrie he has shut down. Drew is the biggest reason without a doubt that we are up 2-0. Period loint blank
If this was lebron at age 39 you would crush him for 6 turnovers in a game and 17 ppg over 2 finals games where jrue brown and porzingis bailed him out and he made 1 jump shot...
Dallas just played out of their minds against OKC and Minnesota. Their role players became all robins. Now, now, now...they're sucking it up. Could it be the bright lights of the Finals, or just Boston having a good game plan?
Holiday is the Kyrie of defensive basketball. Caruso and Suggs are amazing to watch too, but Holiday makes it look so calculated and effortless while he’s jumping around like a cat toying w/ a garden snake.
I don't see why Bucks fans should be mad. The Bucks can't get out of the first round without Giannis - two years ago with Jrue and this year with Dame. If/when Giannis gets hurt the season is over.
This is the take right here. Easy to say the trade worked out for Boston when Giannis didn’t play in the playoffs and Dame got hurt before the end of the series. If those two are fully healthy they 100% beat Indiana
Exactly. Why should a 25 year old's be getting worn down in second halves and having knee issues? Too much Weight and bad conditioning Luka is fat and out of shape. He's gotten away with it because he's so gifted and everyone plays at 80% in the regular season.

Yeah when Rassilo isnt on with his third grade level takes on Tatum. Dude doesn't even understand the difference between a bad game and a bad shooting game. Go listen to what Jrue had to say about Tatum's impact after the game Rassilo
He said Kyrie was doing sports movie offense😅😅
Find someone to look at you like Ryen is looking at Jrue in the thumbnail
The Hauser and Mayan Calculator jokes were really good. 8/10
Great point about Tatum going to the midrange to solve his shooting woes. 3 is better then 2, but 2 is way better than zero.
He’s not a great player. Hes a very good player on an incredible team. Hes not even going to be FMVP lol
Milwaukee unwittingly gifting the Celtics Holiday will be one of the most iconic front office blunders of all time.
So happy yall put the full hour up 🙌🏿
Marcus Smart, if he is watching at home, has to be doing some hard core self evaluation.
Ill never forget when he almost blew it 2 years ago in the miami series game 7 when he shot that terrible 3 at the end of the game
Marcus getting traded for porzingis was one of the happiest days of my life in the last year or so

Even tho jayson tatum shot was falling dude almost had a triple double what im i missing is the game just all about points?
Yeah really weird that they praised Jrue a lot when more than half his buckets were assisted by Tatum.
I thought the same thing Bill. Tatum NEEDS to add a floater to his game and it'll help him a lot

Tatum’s shot wasn’t falling, but he was still a big offensive contributor and he was elite on defense. Ryen needs to look at the whole picture.
These 2 are the best in the business...
In reality Tatum is not even the best player on his own team but you all want him to be recognized as top 5 player in the league without the expectations of a top 5 player
this dude really said “kyrie was awesome compared to tatum” lmao what a joke

The fact that Marcus smart won a Dpoy and Jrue holiday is so much better defensively is crazy
Crazy is right bro, and now Marcus is off the team and Celtics are title favourites
It's because of how great the Celtics defense was that year. Rob Williams really should have won it if he didn't get hurt
Because the voters don’t actually watch
To be fair Jrue was never this good of a help defender until literally this season. He was actually pretty close to average. By his own admission he'd never quarterbacked a defense before this year. He'd also never shown quite this level of switchability.
Whereas Marcus has been the defensive QB, makes more insane rotations than anyone who isn't Draymond, is still the most switchable small guard, and was just as good in point-of-attack when he was younger but then he added weight and started switching more instead. But he can still do it when he wants -- go look at what Steph shot against Marcus in the 22 Finals
And Marcus basically invented how every team loads up in the gaps now on drives. Smart was doing that 6 years ago.
He and Al are also responsible for Boston's defensive identity to this day. They set the tone and built the foundation
And if Jrue _is_ better it's not by much. Certainly not "so much better it's crazy". That is a completely asinine statement. That's like saying Cade Cunningham is better than Jayson Tatum. Especially considering Smart had a much larger offensive load and was still that good defensively
But this probably was the best defensive season of Jrue's career
Tatum is 26, has had huge moments and success in the playoffs. To say this is all he can be, when we've seen soooo many players take leaps at this age is crazy. Are we forgetting he's one year younger than Brown, who has taken a leap this season/playoffs, who doesn't demand double teams and blitzes?
I mean the cake is mostly baked at 26. Maybe he can get a little more consistent as a shooter, the playmaking will still get a little better probably, but that will be balanced as he loses athleticism and he needs those things to stay at this level
Brown got better because his process was terrible. (Honestly idk how he made second team All-NBA when that was probably the worst he's ever played. Bad defense and a black hole on offense.)
But Tatum's process is already really good.

That Lebron take was hysterical and Bang On! "Jrue Holiday... I said trade them 1sts but nobody listened. I knew! I come from a very educated mind!"

Crazy part is through it all, Tatum has 13 double doubles in 16 playoff games so far.
Who cares about double doubles for a 6-8 wing? That should be the expectation.
If Tatum got a call every time he was fouled bro would be having some Wilt numbers
as someone who wanted to see it like i think everyone else except hardcore celtics fans - i get the feeling that we all missed one of the greatest teams in the latest history because no one believe in it
I wouldn't go that far. Dallas is just a very good matchup for them
OKC, Minnesota and Denver all would have given them a lot more trouble.
It’s such a weird finals for him because you can’t defend his poor shooting but you also can’t make the argument that he’s playing poorly 😂

Fukk.

I made fun of Bill for being so in love with the Derrick White acquisition. I’m just here to apologize
Its ok, casuals didn't know how good he is because they don't watch boston.
@@NickMachado I just thought Bill was doing the thing he always does where he talks up anything that supports the idea that his team might finally win the title.
“Tatum’s the 5th best player in the league” - bill Simmons, 06/2024
jokic giannis luka brunson then shai or tatum..that is right
37:00 "sports movie offense". Couldn't stop laughing
Tatum balled… 1 rebound off from a triple double. He also played great defense. I’m not tolerating this slander
There are levels to "balling". If he balled, it is certainly low-tier
If this was lebron at age 39 you would crush him for 6 turnovers in a game and 17 ppg over 2 finals games where jrue brown and porzingis bailed him out and he made 1 jump shot...
Greatest shot blocking guard since Dwayne Wade…remember that guy?? He actually has the most in NBA history. Remember that guy Bill?? 🤷🏾♂️
Boston really traded 2 injury prone players for Holiday. Lmao. 😅
Brad Stevens has to have car salesman experience😂
Bro Russillo is hilarious, just another level on this one
Its the rebounding. It just felt like missed three the celtics were in the perfect place just sitting for the rebound
How many travels did they call mavs and how many did brown have and didn’t get called
I think Lula needs to take his conditioning a little more serious. He is a great player but he wears down.
Exactly. Why should a 25 year old's be getting worn down in second halves and having knee issues? Too much Weight and bad conditioning
Luka is fat and out of shape. He's gotten away with it because he's so gifted and everyone plays at 80% in the regular season.
He’s also been playing professionally since he was 16
2 more games until Ryen has to eat some humble pie
Along with the mavs and their arrogant fans
Can't stand him anymore
What. He never dissed Boston...just because he didn't outright pick them? Boston fans are the worst ...
@@themagicman225but Boston isn't arrogant....lol what a joke
What? He picked boston in 7.
I love the “if I’m a (insert team) fan I’m pissed”, narrative. If any team thinks they would be beating the Cs they should be here doing it. 😂
Nick Chubb level question was hilarious
Tatum had a bad SHOOTING night. Not a bad night. How is a rebound away from a triple double a “terrible game”
Its not about creators,. Its the cook and creations
dallas so bad bill wants minnesota for some fun 😭
NBA matchups make no sense. Wolves beat Nuggets, then lost the Mavs who the Nuggets would’ve beat and the Mavs are losing to the Celtics who the Wolves and Nuggets both would’ve beat. Makes no sense
@@lilslerA tale as old as time in all sports, but even more so in the NBA. It has been and will always be about the match-ups. Classic example, Ali always destroyed Norton, but had huge issues with Frazier, who Norton always easily handled. Anyone watching or betting on sports always obsesses about the match-ups, as they should.
@@lilslerThe Wolves weren’t beating Boston. Lmao. Maybe Denver.
@@kd8752Ken Norton and Joe Frazier never fought. I’m assuming you’re thinking of George Foreman.
@@lilslerhow do you know the Celtics would lose to either of those teams. Imagine Minnesota trying to score against Boston, they would avg 85 a game
“Heart attack special”…? It got down to 5 for like 1 possession, celts were otherwise up like 8-10+ 90% the second half whats Bill talking bout
i love this pod lol
Bill is going to say when Tatum is 37 years old "I think he has another level"
Luka pulling the when you lose at video games and blame the controller?
That’s what my wife calls it. She’ll lean over, grope and say, “ just checking for Chubbs”. 😅😂
When Tatum didn’t take the late shot clock three that JB set up, and proceeded to dribble sideways into nothing and not even get a shot off before the shot clock expired… man that’s a guy who doesn’t trust himself.
It says a lot that during important 4Q Tatum free throws, the crowd was chanting "Kyrie sucks" over "MVP" because the latter would've sounded sarcastic.
Very buoyant rusillo today
I posted on FB that Tatum should be eating at the midrange.
Exactly, I was like Jayson it's open for you too often to not take it.
